Your second statement tells the tale for the most part. Heater didn't do anything until the second half. Teams knew that to beat WKU you had to put pressure on Doughty the whole game. Heater chose to try to get coverage sacks and that killed us. That and Legg/Cato electing to throw the ball way too much early on.

Yeah. I don't want to beat a dead horse because we recovered, won the conference, hammered NIU, finished in top 25 so it was an amazing season. But that game was really a failure of the whole staff. As baffling as the D was in the first half, the decision to not come out and establish the run was mind boggling. They had a high octane O and a paper thin run D. Doesn't take Vince Lombardi to know that the gameplan is to run them into the ground to keep the O off the field.
