Given the instability many witnessed, there were early whispers within the cabinet of invoking the 25th Amendment, which would start a complex process for removing the president. But no one wanted to precipitate a constitutional crisis. So we will do what we can to steer the administration in the right direction until — one way or another — it’s over.

The bigger concern is not what Mr. Trump has done to the presidency but rather what we as a nation have allowed him to do to us. We have sunk low with him and allowed our discourse to be stripped of civility.

Senator John McCain put it best in his farewell letter. All Americans should heed his words and break free of the tribalism trap, with the high aim of uniting through our shared values and love of this great nation.

You do know that this goes to his point about the "deep state" right? Whether rightly or wrongly that will be his argument

Meetings with him veer off topic and off the rails, he engages in repetitive rants, and his impulsiveness results in half-baked, ill-informed and occasionally reckless decisions that have to be walked back.

“There is literally no telling whether he might change his mind from one minute to the next,” a top official complained to me recently, exasperated by an Oval Office meeting at which the president flip-flopped on a major policy decision he’d made only a week earlier.

We all know trump is a moron but now this anonymous op ed will do the exact opposite of its intended goal. You dont think trump will now go nuclear and start purging people? Then what? No one will be able to "restrain him" Congrats anonymous person

No, it doesn’t. These are people he picked, he hired.

You should look up the definition of deep state.

He only hires the best.

LMAO!

You obviously dont know how to read. I said it is what he will claim not what I am claiming

Chickenshit. The writer should attach his name. But nope, as long as we get our tax cuts, get to pollute more, and more money into the military-industrial complex it's all good.

This nation is truly ran by corporations. I just can't figure out if we had a silent coup or if this is by our quiet consent.

Good grief....now the President's staff are writing op-eds about his f'd-up-ness. Time for him to go.

no, I don't want him out - yet. I want a dem house and senate with strong majorities
to keep him in check and to PUNISH THE REPUBLICAN PARTY for letting him get
away with all this crap to begin with - the republican party MUST BE PUNISHED to
teach them a lesson that the nation will not tolerate their partisan corruption any
longer. they have gotten away with it for 30 years they must be taught a lesson.

then I want to embarrass trump at the polls in 2020, no excuses, no martyrdom nothing
but shame and repudiation.

then I want the Feds the states to lock his ass and his whole crime family up. he should be put
in the max prison where the unibomber is so that no one EVER pulls this crap again.

Don't hurt yourself when your blue wave turns into a kiddie pool splash.

Since the dawn of recorded history the answer to every question is money.

Trump's now, for practical purposes, ineffectual. This letter pretty much cements it. Coming on the heals of Woodward's book, five felony convictions, numerous indictments, a Mueller investigation that has the goods on him for obstruction (and probably conspiracy), etc., etc., etc. This pretty much seals it.

It would be like a publicly traded corporation whose CEO wasn't respected, a target for lawsuits and an object of constant ridicule. In order to properly serve stock holders, the board would be obligated to replace the CEO.

Hell, tonight Trump tweeted "TREASON?" in response to the letter. Treason to the United States of America? No. Dissent is part of democracy. England's King George probably could get by with a "TREASON?" statement but not the President of the United States. He also tweeted the NYT should turn over the writer to the govt....like we're a banana republic, and he's our dictator.

It's time to grasp/admit - Trump is a permanent resident of "CrazyTown".

It's in the best interest of the country to get a person in the office who's not a f'ing moron and a complete buffoon.
