CGD

That would be so freakin' awesome......Consider: From what I am told, the 45th Anniversary Memorial Service will be conducted @ 10:00 a.m. on gameday. You think ESPN wouldn't have a camera(s) on that? This would be a home run all the way around!!
Talk about some fired up fans in the background for Lee, Herbie & Co !! Who would they have a guest pick'em personality?
Could he have been #88 in his playing days?

Go HERD !!!!

Man I pray this happens. That place will be rocking! Talk about a big attendance boost. Also they are asking fans to keep bugging ESPN on twitter to get them here. I don't twitter but I might for this

Where would set be? only logical place would be by the fountain/student center. I doubt they would set that up during the ceremony.

I could see it. ESPN has made an effort this season to go to places that aren't the usual destinations. With the ceremony happening, the black out, and as long as the Herd wins this weekend it would be a nice event and gesture on their part.

I would say they would set up at the stadium somewhere. West lot would be awesome in front of the statue but it would disrupt parking so not sure. The fountain as a backdrop would be cool but you would have the ceremony. How about Buskirk Field? Plenty of space and beautiful backdrop looking towards the fountain.

Problem with that is you have a solemn ceremony going on one one side then thousands of people cheering on the other side

If we would really get lucky and land it they could set up on the intramural field by the Rec Center. At least that is close to the stadium. By the Fountain area would have been great but the ceremony going on would prevent that.

If Gameday doesn't end up there maybe Sports Center on the road broadcasts from Huntington.

How about they move the ceremony to earlier that morning before gameday? That way they could have the rest of the morning to do the broadcast

The time was just announced as 10:00. As you know, it is customarily at noon.

Hmmmm...

This whole thing has my troll sense tingling.

here's my thing, i don't see it happening, but i HOPE i'm wrong. that said, it's easy for espn to say "oh yeah, we're considering marshall!" whether they truly are or not, it's a good pr move.

Set the stage up closer to the Sports Med Facility entrance in front of Chris Cline Indoor facility with the Bison statues, IAF and stadium in the background. Fans could pack in that plaza around the statues.

So basically what you have is a bunch of people tweeting at ESPN, and an unconfirmable report that a local radio host called a low-level PR representative and they said "Sure, yeah, we're considering it."

Captain Picard facepalm goes here.

If this can't be done at the center of campus then is should be done on the Maintenance Field. If you do the West Lot or 20th Street you screw up parking for some and traffic for all. The middle of campus would be awesome

Curious as to where fans would congregate at the Sports Med Facility -- CGD takes up a lot of room and it would be difficult to get a lot of folks around the stage in my opinion. I do like the Rec area idea though

Another thing we might want to work on and tweet at is The Greenbrier's twitter. They have been a heavy advocate for Virginia Tech in getting them there the following week with their Gameday for Frank campaign.

The Greenbrier has tweeted multiple times to the Gameday crew about how they should come and they would love them for a round of golf if they came. I'm sure if some of us tweeted them and told them what we were trying to do they would help and send some out for us as well.

Shut down 20th street, looking back at stadium and tailgate area, put the stage on 20th street. Have the cameras pointed at he crowd and the bronze statue on the stadium front.

I've always wondered why we haven't shut down 20th and use that space for tailgating....

If ESPN is going to do gameday from Huntington (which I am not buying) they will set up where they want and when they want... If it disrupts parking, doesnt matter, they are ESPN.

With that said, setting up next to the buffalo statues would be pretty sweet.

IMHO,

- ESPN does have a quite, but not really secret, list of Gameday posibilities because it has to work out logistics and stuff like that.

- As much as dshoe wants to deny it, ESPN DOES favor ESPN events. That does not mean that they won't go to non-ESPN events, but it does matter. This is a non-ESPN event in THE non-ESPN conference.

- If Gameday was not going to come here last year, they certainly are not this year. For that matter they never came here when we were their darlings back in the MAC days.

- The only way you could do this would be to move the ceremony to well befoe ESPN comes on the air. Gameday is fun and the ceremony is, well, kind of like church.

- They have already done 3 off-beat places this year.

- Memphis-Houston. Pitt-Duke. Oklahoma-Baylor. Alabama-Mississippi State.

that's not really how it works.

So reading all these responses I am getting the usual, "I'm a pessimist, but to save my ass I'm going to pretend that I hope I am wrong" to people really thinking what dshoe's opinion of all this is as if it really matters to what ESPN does, to people thinking it is going to happen to people questioning the validity of the guy tweeting it, to even the ceremony being changed due to it.

Honestly, it's a good idea if they came here. Facebook is really exploding over support for this and Twitter is nuclear right now. The ceremony and the whole experience would be something they could actually get accustomed to, with gameday taking a quick break for the ceremony (it would be subbed in for one of their emotionally charged feel good stories of the day and it would work)...place the stage on 20th street, with the backdrop of the stadium, and the guys would face the fountain (you can actually see it from 20th street now, since Hodges was torn down) with all the fans in the parking lots...maybe even close off the parking lots to cars for the duration of the broadcast and allow fans to flood it instead.

Seriously, the possibilities are endless, and I hope they do come here!

I definitely think the rec center field would be perfect. Having it in the center of campus could work. It could be subdued until after the ceremony and far enough away to where they could still talk on the air with the fountain and student center in the background. I would hope our fans would be respectful and reserved until after the memorial and not be rowdy just because the cameras are there. If set up by the rec it would show off our rec center and newer portion of our campus on national tv which is always a good thing plus there would be no issues with the memorial or space.

The report was confirmed by Keri Potts, Senior Director of ESPN Communications. You are welcome to take it for what its worth.

so, to sum up you think that:
  • gameday should take a 30-45 minute break during the middle of their broadcast for the ceremony
  • that people who have given thousands and paid for parking spots should only be allowed to access their spots once game day is over
and just fyi, you can't see the fountain from 20th street...prichard, buskirk, and jenkins halls are still in your way.

Not even that much time...more like 10 minutes when the fountain is actually turned off.
Yes you can see the fountain...there's a straight path that goes right through campus. I don't know what you're talking about regarding Buskirk, Jenkins, and Prichard as they are OFF TO THE SIDE from said path.

If gameday came and blocked off 20th street...considering the gametime could even be moved back...then yes, close off the parking lot, or at least a portion of it for fans to stand in...

But then again, your logic, is always against production, so I wouldn't expect you to really understand.

Shut down the main thoroughfare thru town so people can eat a hot dog and guzzle beer, that sounds like a plan. Might as well close 3rd as well.

I can't believe some of you are actually taking this serious. Wtf are some of you smoking? Seriously??
