CGD

So reading all these responses I am getting the usual, "I'm a pessimist, but to save my ass I'm going to pretend that I hope I am wrong" to people really thinking what dshoe's opinion of all this is as if it really matters to what ESPN does, to people thinking it is going to happen to people questioning the validity of the guy tweeting it, to even the ceremony being changed due to it.

Honestly, it's a good idea if they came here. Facebook is really exploding over support for this and Twitter is nuclear right now. The ceremony and the whole experience would be something they could actually get accustomed to, with gameday taking a quick break for the ceremony (it would be subbed in for one of their emotionally charged feel good stories of the day and it would work)...place the stage on 20th street, with the backdrop of the stadium, and the guys would face the fountain (you can actually see it from 20th street now, since Hodges was torn down) with all the fans in the parking lots...maybe even close off the parking lots to cars for the duration of the broadcast and allow fans to flood it instead.

Seriously, the possibilities are endless, and I hope they do come here!

I don't think it's smart to have the ceremony at noon for a 3:30 kickoff and honestly GameDay coming would take away from the Ceremony

The gametime won't be pushed back for Gameday @Herdstruck .

Honestly anything is possible. They might actually show up, you know ESPN love that sad sentimental stuff. But how many people are going to come out for both events at the same time??

My opinion the ceremony should have been moved to 9 not 10 and last only an hour. So neither events take away from the other and with gameday there, it would actually bring more people out for the game. Shit if WVU loses again we might get some of their Walmart fans to buy a ticket instead of driving to see losers.

OK... this is getting to the point of absurdity...

1. Gameday is not coming to Huntington
2. There are many reasons for that...
A. We are playing a terrible team in a game that is in no way considered marquee.
B. Said game is not on ESPN.
C. If they were going to come for a fountain ceremony they would have tried to capitalize on the movie publicity a few years ago. Or they can wait for the 50-year ceremony in 5 years.
D. Said fountain ceremony could be done as a "feature" on Gameday and they wouldnt actually have to come to campus with the set and announcers.

I am usually one of the more brazen optimists on this board, but it aint happenin'.

Not when 14. Oklahoma-2. Baylor play that day and so do 7. Alabama-24. Mississippi State and 15. Memphis-18. Houston... Unranked Marshall and garbage FIU doesn't move the meter compared to those matchups.

Yeah because gameday has never gone to places like JMU vs. Richmond or Trinity college for a D3 matchup...or even NDSU...cause, ya know, everyone was glued to their TV's for those games, right?

Oh wait...

One of the producers when there (JMU).

It would be pretty cool to have them here. Oddly enough it's the actual days Of Friday 13 and Saturday 14 that coinside with the actual crash.

I don't know how we they pull off the fountain ceremony at the same time though....pretty nice actually to have ESPN consider Marshall. If we beat mtsu and roll back into Huntington 9-1 it would have some intrigue.

Yes I have thought all along why not block off 20th between the campus and stadium. We have NO place for RVs anywhere and every major program has a place set up to accommodate them. Southern Miss must have had 20 RVs all setting in a perfect locale. If I'm Marshall I set up an RV area across from the library. I park them in a wall fashion on the outer portion of the lot. I would also close down 20th and sell tailgating space and I would also allow tailgating between the tennis courts so you could walk to the game down the sidewalk. I then institute the ROCKHEAD horn to mark 30 minutes before game time.

Thanks for the update Dan, good to know as some people put it on the bitch board it was simply a cruel joke.

I would have assumed that game day would do a nice bit on the anniversary and it would be one of the stories they show during game day, much like they did for Cato last year.

At the very least, that is likely to happen. Whether they would do a game day set at Marshall, who knows? I doubt it, but if they do, I really hope they decide ASAP, because we will need to get busy trying to get as many people to attend as possible, and that includes nearby fans of UK, WVu, tOSU, etc.

ESPN's Chris Fallica (AKA "The Bear" ) the techie who ESPN has doing Jimmy the Greek's old act picked against us on GD and noted that the result would be "a big disappointment to (Marshall) fans because they are all campaigning for us to come there next week".

I'm sorry guys, but I just don't see it. GD's fun atmosphere and mix of fans from all around (there would be a lot of Spamies, Buckeyes, Wildcats, and just random people from all over the Midwest and upper South who just show up) are just incompatible with the quasi-religious and somber ceremony. The only way to do it would be to have the ceremony very early in that morning.

Plus there are just a lot of other games this late. If we EVER get GD it will be some year with a weekend where nothing really stands out, like JMU's week this year.

Then I guess we need to shut ESPN up and win the game. Regardless of whether or not that even had any impact on them doing a game day at Marshall.

This day and age of college football and ESPN is just sickening at times. Hopefully Fox Sports can become enough of a power to take away the stronghold ESPN has on college football.

Back in the day when only the big programs had their games on TV, small programs remained stagnant and being ranked was rare. Then, parody started to occur in the mid-nineties with all sorts of channels offering coverage of smaller programs. High School kids could see the smaller programs play on TV and it seemed to help with recruiting and gaining some notoriety.

Now ESPN, the college football playoff committee and tv contract exclusivity with conferences are just placing mid-majors right back into the dark.

The one thing I do hope is that the couch burning pregnant mom beating eeerbilly idiots can please maintain for 1 day and not make Marshall look like the idiots the rest of the nation sees eeerbilly high to be.

But we can pretty much count on them to show up in their stupid yellow. I'll make a sign up for game day that reads:

If your stupid enough to wear your yellow shirt here today please don't beat up one of our expecting Mothers during your visit to Huntington! Thank.you eeerbillys for those of you that can read !

Sadly, I think alot of their decision came from the results of tonight's game...if we won, we could have a better chance of them coming. Not too sure now...

That game has national championship implications, ours ... Not so much. For the average CFB that's the place to go

The November 14, 1970 tragedy is ours and always will be. Yes it would have been nice to have had it honored by having CGD come to campus but our history seemingly is not enough to secure a visit. Big time football games and larger venues seems all ESPN is interested in for CGD. You would think the other networks that televise us and the other G5 programs would get a name individual/s and create a competing program. JMO

This. Erik Kuselias was talking about this on his radio show last week. It really is a no-brainer. A pre-game show where they do standard pre-game puff pieces and have a doddering old failed coach act foolish and make (really bad this year) picks along with some D-list celebrity and it generates huge buzz. Everybody, even the biggest programs wants GD.

Why Fox has not gotten with Lowe's and duplicated this show is beyond me.
