Charles Huff Exclusive

Not questioning anything. I still like him as coach. That has nothing to do with my opinion about him leaving and when. Two totally different topics. You read more into these posts than is ever written my friend.

Well it is a departure from our last coach who got no calls from other schools in his 11 years here. lol!
He wasn't trying to leave.
You do realize it works both ways...and some coaches, actually just wanted to stay here.
Huff, clearly doesn't...and sees MU as a "stepping stone" which the entire board was accepting of.

Then they get mad he actually does and they realize what a stepping stone is...you're just there for their own gain...and you all show up, and cheer loudly, and support the team he is running, he is actively looking to get out and he doesn't need to win many games to do so.

There are a lot of people looking at him. Doesn't mean anyone is going to hire him. They are waiting to see how he does. There were people looking at him before he took the job, but no one was really sure on him. There were plenty of write ups about him when he took the job. This is and always has been his job interview for bigger jobs.

BINGO!!!

People are going to be offended when they realize what being a stepping stone school is.
We really don't matter to anyone coming here. We never really have. ND is at the top of his resume and it doesn't matter if it's us or UTEP or whomever he would be coaching.
Sure he says he likes it here, praised the haitiry of the program, and maybe starts his own tradition of something.

Then he leaves under non-acceptable circumstances (maybe wins 9 games and no conference title) because regardless, the fans aren't going to like him leaving.
He wins an Access Bowl and gives MU a ridiculously high bar, "why leave when he can start a dynasty here?!" Or if he just leaves after a so-so season, "Pshhhh, he wasn't that good anyways."

It will be an endless cycle and MU will never really hold the value it's fans think it holds to others, which is fine, but a reality check many aren't wanting to accept.

If Huff wins a football game then Marshall wins a football game! If he can parley OUR success into a 4 million dollar a year job then lord love him and who could blame him for accepting a position like that!

He's not going anywhere any time soon. Correct me if I am wrong, but counting Notre dame he still hasn't beat a team with a winning record. It is yet to be seen if Notre dame was a fluke, or Bowling green was a fluke.

I don't think ND was a fluke, if we played them again we'd beat them again...but that says more about them than us, wins will be scare for the Irish this season.

Sure he is looking to leave. That’s the way of the world. I would be just as concerned or skeptical of a coach who didn’t want to better themselves. Like any job, someone gets too comfy, performance dwindles most of the time. We saw that with Pruett and Doc. It happens.

If he leaves, fine. If he stays fine. I think the MU job is still a good job.

It is only when, not if. I do agree that MU is a good job!

He's leaving with barely a winning record...the MU job isn't as lucrative as you may wish it were.

Who said it was lucrative. It's a stepping stone, always has been. Except for coaches who have no desire to move up or out of their comfort zone, such as Doc. I doubt Huff leaves after this year, unless we win out. If he does, see ya, next man up. I don't worry about this stuff - bigger issues in life.

I think many MU fans think a stepping stone benefits the stone.
It doesn't always.

MU fans embrace the idea of constantly gambling on a new HC every 2-3 years, if we're lucky...then MUfans freak out over the coach possibly leaving with a not so stellar record at the same time.

Once more, the paradox being, MU is supposed to be better with anyone who takes the HC job as their goal is to make themselves look the best with MU being a secondary benefit.
But the reality is, the image is of the HC themselves and MU doesn't have to look as good, just good enough to give the P5 the idea the HC can run a program. Sure, winning helps, but it isn't everything.

That is the stepping stone MU is being.

As far as stepping stones go, it seems like 90% of the schools out there now are stepping stones. Who would have ever thought Brian Kelley would leave ND? Jimbo? There are blue bloods that lose coaches to other p5 schools, I am only 39, but I can not remember coaches jumping from one blue blood to another. College football is a different world and changes as quickly as a Tik Toc video. That is one thing I can say about Huff, so far he has embraced the portal, which is a huge change. Lets see if he can switch up the Offense so we can make some noise the rest of the season.

Yeah, I wonder why the hell did he take the job then? Sure it pads the resume but it's not a good look. He's moved around a bunch in his career.
Taking a look at Charles Huff [age 39].....he has gained valuable experience at some of his employment stops since graduating from Hampton in 2005. Maryland; Vanderbilt; BUFFALO BILLS; Western Michigan; Penn State; Mississippi State; Alabama [Asst. Head Coach, recruiting coordinator & RB coach] before coming to The HERD in 2021. Taking the Marshall job added HEAD Coach to his resume. Will he be in Huntington for years? I don't think so (jmo).....especially with the recent reception he & his family are receiving the past 3 weeks---- after perhaps the 2nd greatest win in Marshall Football history!

Not a big deal. He was only supposed to be a stop gap coach. 2-3 years. But he was supposed to move on quickly from winning big. But he may move on quickly for another reason....I hope he does win big and takes a "bigger" job. Come on Huff! Let's see what your made of! Go Herd and Go Huff!

PS. The ND win was awesome. But in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter if we only win 4 or 5 games this year.

If he can't handle the criticism he's getting from our fan base right now then he needs to give up coaching because it onlu gets worse the higher up you go.

Let me point out to one thing that Hammy did that will backfire on him and I have considered this for some time before bring it up. Was the hire of Huff racist inspired…I know why the question right! Think about it your guy doesn’t do anything to elevate Marshall football to what we needed was a Championship Program again…Doc became what he was all along DN 2.0! The maturity of the Marshall fanbase has overcome even the racist mentality as it is the Grandfather of Black players welcomed into the Marshall family long before Alabama’s Bear Bryant or other programs. We are Marshall that is a Safe Harbour for young black men and a black HC who is recruiting Student Athletes who want an education. Given these next years Marshall could be a world beater once again so lay off the criticism for once and let Huff build the program into what we all are believing to see one day.

You forget that there is far, far more money in college football now than there ever has been.

But given the contract of say, Jimbo, some programs are going to have to stomach a
3-2 record going to a team who'll possibly murder them...than pay, whatever the rest of the $75,000,000 buyout is.

Definitely possible in today's culture

Huff is killing me. In today's HD he says QB play needs to get better. It sure does, BUT, nothing was said about a midget league type OL play the last 3 games. The OL is the issue with poor QB play as a result. jmo.

QB play does need to improve, but these are the guys he wanted. He's also the one coaching them. Maybe call better plays. You know those TEs you have that you keep bragging about Huff? How many times a game do I need to hear that Devin Miller is nicknamed Tim Duncan only to see him targeted once or all your glowing praise about snagging Stacey Marshall and how it will finally allow you to run the Pro Style offense you wanted to last year.

And yet out TEs account for 18 out of our 100 receptions. Just 18! You have a QB that doesn't really appear excel at downfield throwing and you barely use your TEs.

Nope just more sideline to sideline passes that Marshall fans just LOVE!

I don't know maybe Huff saw the last HC got away with this crap for 10 years. Why try right.

If Huff and Trickett having figured something out over these last 10 days we're completely screwed. Not just this season, but going forward. Unless Marshall finds out Chris Cline left us a ton of money and we use that to pay Caleb Williams to transfer in from USC because it's going to take a magician to look good in our offense.

Huff needs to do an extensive search for a quality OC the minute the season is over

Third times a charm right? He hasn't exactly proven he is as good of a coach recruiter as he is a player recruiter. First he decided to keep Cramsey. A universally despised coach by the fans. Then he replaces him with a guy that's never called plays before. That has always seemed odd to me as Huff seems like a "win now" kind of coach. As a new HC you'd think you want coordinators that you can lean on.

This to me is one of the biggest reasons why our offense struggles. Both our HC and Oc are learning on the job in real time. To make matters worse the only coach on staff in the Shewey that can provide any guidance is Bill Legg. Need I say more.

Hypotheticly speaking, how long does it take a coach to teach the offense a scheme ? Consisting of lets say, 10-15 plays..

They're both major issues.
If you can, rewatch the ND game and you'll see what BG saw...and the Herd's offensive staff should have seen. So the problems with the OL didn't get resolved since game 2.
Colombi is slow in reading the D & releasing the ball & is not terrifically quick so he plays himself into sacks & hits.

The Oline has to pass block better. But qb plays a roll in it. Can the qb work the pocket? Get rid of the ball when being rushed? Both need to play alot better imo. Texas tech has a terrible oline. They have given up like 23 sacks this year. They put a freshman in this past Saturday against a great Oklahoma st defense. The defense was in his face all day and the kid still threw for 350+ at 60% completion rate. Yes the oline has to block better, but a great qb can still make it work. Problem is we have a poor oline and poor qb play. Doesn't help you have a super green OC and that's on Huff. What a lazy hire.

"Notre Dame won't win another game this year!"...stated Tonycried2. Let's fact-check that: Fact===after an 0-2 start with losses @ Ohio State [21-10] and in South Bend to THE HERD [26-21] The Irish have defeated California [24-17]; @ victory at North Carolina [45-32]; and defeated BYU in Vagas [28-20]. They host Stanford, on Oct. 15......***looks like (to me) ND has righted their ship! # 18 Syracuse, on the road, could be a stiff challenge, on October 29; CLEMSON will be an exciting game in South Bend, on Nov. 5.... and the Irish close their regular season @ USC--- the real USC--(not the Cocks) on November 26. Perhaps, no Thanksgiving meal for The Irish.
