Charlotte

And they get the win, 23-20. GSU's last TD was with 30 seconds left.

Their defense looked pretty good, but got tired down the stretch. A bit weak in the secondary. Offense seemed talented, but mistake prone. I can see them getting 3 wins no problem, 5 with some upsets. For a team in its third year of existence, I'm really impresed.

As you know.

Herd needs to win and need help.

Best if CUSA OOC conference record is on positive side.

I don't recall stating anything to the contrary? Charlotte played much better than I expected, especially for the period of time they've had a team - that was their first game against an FBS opponent, and only their 23rd game at all. They should hopefully beat Presbyterian next week, Temple would be a very tall order, and no way they beat UK. They'll be dogs inn all of their conference games, but if F_U, USM, ODU, or UTSA slip up, they could grab a win in there somewhere, especially if they cam down and don't make mistakes. I'm thinking that could happen in one of those games, but it isn't outside the realm of possibility for two or even three of them to slip up. Not likely at all, and I only expect them to get three wins, but not completely unreasonable.

. Not likely at all, and I only expect them to get three wins, but not completely unreasonable.

You've softened your stance within the last hour.

You initially said 3 wins "no problem" and possibly 5 with some upsets.

But, in your last post, you said they would hopefully best Presbyterian (1 win), and then you went on to list 4 games they could possibly win if the opponent slips up. You said it would be "not likely at all" that 2 or 3 out of those 4 opponents would slip up, so how is getting to 3 wins "no problem" when beating 2 of those other potentially winnable games is "not likely at all?"

GSU = 1 win
Presbyterian = 2 wins
The likely slip up = 3 wins
The unlikely slip ups = 4/5 wins

I also listed 5 teams that could slip up. As you are such the stickler for attention to detail and accuracy, I assumed you would have realized that F_U referered either FIU or FAU.

I apologize for understating my belief that a single slip up would happen when I said "I'm thinking that could happen in one of those games." I also believe that having an upset happen in three of those five games would be the ceiling, thus, five wins possible.

"I can see them getting to five wins easy" by virtue of the win tonight, beating an FCS team, and one of their conference opponents pulling a standard sports move in dropping a game they shouldn't against Charlotte.

"Five with some upsets" "Not likely at all... but not completely unreasonable" by virtue of their win tonight, beating an FCS team, and multiple conference opponents dropping a game they shouldn't against Charlotte.

I have two questions for you, Rifle. First, even if I had softened my stance, what would that matter? I maintain my original statement, but it is a common occurrence for an individual to change their opinion due to discourse or reflecton. This is a good thing. Second, are you just so bored or miserable that you truly have nothing better to do than nitpick minor perceived inaccuracies on a a friendly, positive post by a fellow Herd fan? I know you're an intelligent, if abrasive, presence on this board. However, sometimes, you just go so far out of your way for incredibly minor things, and don't even bother to contribute to the conversation at all.

"I can see them getting to five wins easy"

Now, you're jumping back to the opposite of softening your stance. Did you mean three wins here instead of five?

It's not so much abrasive as it is having to question because claims are made, backed away from, then supported again but even stronger the next time. It tends to make discussions difficult.

My posts weren't unfriendly to you as you seemed to allude to. I think it's unreasonable to think Charlotte could reach five wins based on them squeaking by a team which has gone 0-21 against FBS teams. Georgia state's only two wins over the last three seasons have been against FCS teams, one of which was by 1 point. Out gaining them by 15 yards and out scoring them by 3 points doesn't bode well to get to 5 wins.

My bad, typo. Should have been three.

I was basing my statement of three wins on them playing a mediocre FCS team, a terrible FBS team, and some potentially (and hopefully not) bad CUSA teams. I'm basing the statement of five wins on if multiple CUSA teams really ____ the bed.

From watching the game, they're better than what they final stats show - especially if they can learn to make fewer mistakes. While they have quite a bit of work to do to be considered even mediocre, the original intent of my statements was that Charlotte appears to be much better than all of us originally thought.

While I do apologize that my posts seem to have given the impression of flip flopping on my opinions, I believe that you will find discussions much easier if you focus less on the individual components of a statement (particularly on a message board, where typos run rampant, and posters frequently rush out comments), but rather on the statement itself. Forest and trees. I certainly acknowledge both your intelligence and sunset matter expertise, but I've noticed that to be at the center of many disputes I have seen you in on this board - both with myself and others. And please don't take that as an attack. I often have the opposite problem of focusing more on the whole, and missing details! Which is bad, since I tend to be wordy and have overly long posts. Like this one. But hey, you've been a much more consistent poster than I have over the roughly ten years we've been members here, so what do I know?

I would suggest holding off on jumping to that immediate conclusion. Georgia State was epicly pathetic today. And as bad as Georgia State is, if the game were 3 minutes longer, Georgia State would likely have completed their 4th comeback. While not wanting to take away from Charlotte, they will generally not be competitive in conference play this year.

Pretty cool... HC Brad Lambert & 49ers give game ball to Haley Ratliff, daughter of OL Coach Phil Ratliff who died Aug. 9 #SCtop10 http://t.co/nnwefqktqo
Thanks jeremy for posting that. They gave a ball to the ratliff family in the locker room after the game. I stopped and talked to Phil's dad and they are doing well. Philip's nephew is 6'6" 290 lb tackle at lawrence county

I used to work with his brother. He's definitely a big kid. I usually shoot one of their games each year to go talk to Brian. (Phil's brother)
