I got this quote from another thread and thought it would make a good tangential conversation...

I can’t say.

This was the first real, “do no say anything” type deal we’ve been part of with this staff.

I haven’t actually spoken to the recruit yet.

I do expect an announcement.

So...the last two coaches seemed guarded with information to say the least. I imagine the reasons ranged from paranoia through fear of losing competitive edge. But suddenly with Gibson you guys are out in front of announcing Herd information and not just confirming you knew it before hand but sworn to secrecy. Is this a whole new approach by the new staff?

A few thought in anticipation of your reply...

*Sometimes as an outsider it appears that a lot of the paranoia with information by the prior two coaches ...being it guarding recruiting info or shutting out the fan base from practice is way over played. The reaction of the coaches to the fear that some spy might steal personnel and strategy information and gain a competitive edge seems a stretch.

*Marshall is a close knit community that loves to be close to its sports programs. The post plane crash community ties is really what makes Marshall so special. Bob Pruett was very good at making the community feel close to the football program. As a result this closeness bred excitement and connection. To a certain extent, the basketball practice guys became close and loyal fans under DD even when we finished with some mediocre years.

*Has the last two coaches thwarted excitement, attendance, and the feeling of community by building a wall around the program and shutting out the fans? Wouldn't working and sharing information (info that doesn't compromise a potential competitive situation) with HerdNation staff, who can build upon the sense of inclusion with the fan base, serve as a great tool for the program?

I see more excitement and activity among fans on this board than I've seen in years. It seems to me that if in fact Gibson is taking a new approach to what is shared with the Herd Community, that it will pay dividends in the long run.
