Closing school for hardly any snow

We are forecast to get about 1-2" of snow later today. This caused all of the local schools to decide yesterday to close for today.

It's not even enough snow for the kids to have fun in. Speaking of fun, the bastards also called for online learning today...no fun.

If you are scared of an inch of snow, move to Miami.

@i am herdman , what do you think of this vaginafication?

My wife just got a call from her eye specialist’s office. She has to have her second cornea transplant and had a battery of test that needed done before a surgery date is scheduled. We were looking forward to getting it behind us so we could vacation in March. Anyway, the office called yesterday and asked her if she wanted to reschedule her appointment because a big snow was coming. She said no, my husband will drive me there...he likes to drive in the snow. So they left it at that. I told her that I guarantee they’ll call and cancel in the morning. She could tell the office women were panicking about the snow.

So about five minutes ago we get the call…we need to reschedule appointment because of the snow. My wife said she’d like to reschedule as quickly as possible. The next available date?…March 21st. Are you kidding me? The first snowflake hasn’t fallen and the appointment was canceled and delayed one and a half months. And they would not budge. They have all the control.

Maybe I’m just a product of the days that school buses put chains on and picked up kids during snowstorms. I remember in my days…

March 21st, to hell with that. I'd be on the phone every day until they begged me to come back and get it over with. That or go somewhere else. March 21 is way too long for anything.

I remember helping our bus driver put chains on the bus. We started fires at the bus stop to stay warm. The bus drivers drove in that stuff.

This was on of the early things about vaginification . But, really probably is a legal issue but it makes the brains mush turn into vaginas.

This country is lost and it started with this kind of bull shit. Nut up and go to school.

Do your school districts use private bus companies?
The school system has their own transportation departments. At least that’s the way it is here locally. In my former county they are struggling to find drivers and substitutes. Almost daily they have to divide up routes among drivers of other routes to get kids to and from school.

That's ridiculous. Put off a medical procedures for months because it might snow. Plain ridiculous.

The problem is that there’s just not that many cornea specialist. The doctor she used, Dr. Caudill in Charleston, has retired and referred her patients to this new doctor at HIMG. It took over two months to get this appointment today.

Why are they closing stuff based on it might snow? Let's get this done.

Of course my antibody treatment got delayed two days because of wind and rain. No joke.

Sounds like incentive not to ever move back. Around here, I've been able to get quicker appointments for everything. The old man and everybody back there talks about HIMG, like it's the only show in town.

It's about like buying a car probably. If you went to Dutch you paid too much. Have to go to Columbus, Cincinnati or somewhere like that to get a decent deal.

I think snow is likely. I just don’t see how you can’t reschedule the patients from one afternoon any earlier than two months. Just reschedule for a Saturday or a day they normally don’t see patients. Doctors offices will make you wait sometimes hours before they call you back and then wait hours in a cold room after a nurse took your vitals before you see the doctor. I get that doctors are busy and sometimes they have unforeseen things that can interrupt their schedule, but it just seems like a simple doctor’s appointment where a doctor spends 5-10 minutes with you tops, shouldn’t take four or five hours. It happens way too much. And nobody is apologetic about it.

Since HIMG was acquired by St. Mary’s, they pretty much ARE the only show in town. Don’t get me wrong, I think the HIMG where the old Walmart/Drive-in movie place is on 29th is pretty convenient. and generally I’m pretty happy with them.

Do they base funding on attendance? When I was a kid I lived in KY for a bit and a lot of kids lived up in the hills and any snow at all made it impossible to get to school. So they’d cancel for anything just to not have the attendance hit.

What is the deal with HIMG? I talk to my mom. Where are you headed mom? Appointment for this and that at HIMG. Got to go to HIMG. I had to take her to the doctor when I was home. Where is at ? HIMG?

What do they do ? Everything from horse shoes to open hear surgery?

I’m not sure, but the school gets credit for an instructional day if the kids were fed lunch. So if they show up like they did today, and they leave an hour later, as long as they were fed they don’t have to make it up. I’m still on the county phone list where I retired and a call went home to parents that the kids would be put on the bus at 11:20 and they’d be given a bag lunch as they got on. I remember kids getting fed lunch at 9 am on days where there was an unexpected early release.

I got my ears cleaned there about 19 years ago. Guy scraped the hard wax out and it was on a big screen where you could see it. Now you just go to Kroger's little clinic and some woman squirts a bunch of shit in there and the wax comes out. Have to do that every 5-10 years.

March 21 though. Damn, I'd almost cancel it thinking I'd be dead by then. I don't know how bad this eye thing is. If it was aggravating me enough, I'd be searching the whole country for somewhere to get it over with. Vacation to Idaho just for this? Probably if that's what it took and it sucked enough.

They can do pretty much anything at the 29th street HIMG. I had colonoscopies there. My wife had chemo there. You can get physical therapy, bloodwork, any Xrays or scans. There’s a pharmacy there. They pretty much do anything that doesn’t require an overnight stay. It’s convenient and I can’t complain too much about it.

I actually admire that.
I agree. Some of the kids in the county I worked weren’t getting fed well at home. The schools even send home food bags on Friday to high risk kids as well. They also provide meals over summer breaks.
