Hard to imagine this will work out well for LSU. A 742 win % is not good enough. He is 9-8 since the 15-0 title but he lost something like 14 guys to the NFL off of that team. Oh well I guess Doc was treated way better here. Still I think one more season would have been in order before pulling the plug on him

Wasn’t his roster to begin with, much like Larry Coker and the U his national title was built by someone else. Tbh Coach O was a bad hire from the get

He landed Burrow from tOSU and recruited Ja'Marr Chase, Jefferson, Edwards-Helaire, etc.

I’m sure LSU had a lot of talent when he arrived on campus but Coach O didn’t win the NC until his 4th year at LSU. That 2019 team was all him.

His real downfall (on the field) was not properly replacing Joe Brady and Dave Aranda.

Yeah, he caught lightning in a bottle with an incredible roster, an incredible QB transfer, and two incredible coordinators. He’s been a below average coach his whole career, besides 2019. Great recruiter, below average HC.

I listen to a podcast where a guy has NFL scouting contacts and he said a scout told him:

“When you’re watching an LSU game, their coach is watching right a long with you.”

Coaching is a tough business, and when your schtick gets stale it's time to adjust or move on... In this case Ogeron's schtick got stale and the off the field "issues" got amplified at the same time.

He has made plenty of money, won a national championship, he will be fine... Probably take a year or two off and either take a lower level P5 head job (Kansas always likes guys who wore out their welcome elsewhere) or go be a very well paid coordinator/recruiter at a big time school.

The issue is Nick Saban. As long as he is coaching every coach in the SEC outside of UK, Vandy, and Arky is going to be expected to be as dominant. There can be absolutely no fall off if you win a title. Saban has raised the bar so high it's caused a lot of coaching casualties.

Big problem for the SEC. How can they make it so every team wins the NC in football every year and keeps everyone happy.
