Coaches Poll - Still at #15, AP Poll - Still at #16

AP out yet? Can you supply a link? All the ones I see are old or speculative.

At this point, we are reliant on teams above us losing in order to move up... With our schedule, we won't be jumping anyone based on "quality wins" and teams from the P5 may very well jump us if they keep winning (like Indiana has).

If we go undefeated, my guess is we end up somewhere between 9-13.

This past weekend was basically a bye week. The game was intended to be played and then not noticed or immediately forgotten, just a +1 hiding in our win total.

Another possibility for the Cougars on Nov. 28 is 6-0 Marshall, which has a bye that week. The Thundering Herd walloped UMass 51-10 Saturday and is No. 16 in the AP Top 25 and No. 15 in the Coaches Poll.

Lots are talking about it. Hamrick should get it done. Do a search for Marshall-BYU 2020, many outlets are discussing the possibility. Should get done!

Regardless of how bad UMass is, MU needs as many wins as it can get.
Sit out a week, rise 3 spots. Play a game and win big, no movement. Go figure. I like this team and where it's going, but in any other year, with our present schedule, I doubt that we would be in this same position. Going to enjoy it and hope it continues.

Unlikely at best... Hamrick isn't dumb. He isn't going to take a one-off road game in Provo, Utah... I would say the only way this happens is if BYU agrees to a series, or at the very minimum a home-and-home at BYU this year and then in Huntington in 2023 (that's the earliest both teams have another open date).

Also, with so many CUSA games being postponed, moved, shuffled, etc... We may end up playing a CUSA game on Nov. 28 if either of our next two get scrapped.

I'm not so sure we should take a game on the 28th. That would have us playing Nov. 7, 14, 21, 28, Dec 5, 12, 18 (likely), and then most likely an early bowl around Christmas. That's 8 weeks in a row. We need the rest week of 28th.

I love how people think "Hamrick should get it done." How do you know he hasn't tried and they won't take the game. Maybe they aren't entertaining calls.

Rest?

That's all we have been getting all year. Besides, not trying to jinx anything; but, I still have a suspicion this weekend or FIU there will be another "virus" problem.

If Cincy falls, a BYU game maybe the only thing standing between us and NY6. Don't kid yourself by thinking just because BYU does not have a Conference Championship they will not go. I have a feeling they will make an exception (NCAA).

If there is another "virus" problem as you say, MU will need Nov. 28 to play a CUSA game, especially if it's one of the east division games the next two weeks.

Cincy has nobody left on their schedule other than a way down UCF squad... The Bearcats are just as likely, or maybe more likely, than us to win out. And even if they lost one at UCF, they would still be ranked ahead of us.

Also, if Cincy does lose twice by some miracle, Coastal Carolina is ranked ahead of us and they still have a quality game left on their schedule with App State. Meaning they are likely to stay ahead of us.

Could every break go our way and we end up in a NY6 game? - Sure... But if all things fall that way (Cincy loses at least once, probably twice, Coastal loses to App, etc) then we won't need to beat BYU to serve our purpose. BYU is not going to be a G5 conference champion, thus we are not battling them for a NY6 spot.

The only way we take a game with BYU is if they agree to a series (and they wont).

I agree, but it's not definitive. I would love to see them extend the playoffs or get Cincy in. It does not fit the P5 narrative, but I feel the Bearcats can do some damage.

You are giving the, way too much credit. They are 0-6 against APP, they have Liberty, Troy, and a pissed off ULL in the Sunbelt Championship where they are .500

Didn't I say the NCAA will probably make the exception? Let's say Cincy falters or gets into the playoffs leaving the access bowl available. Would you really want MU to jump BYU solely based on a "Not A Champion" narrative? You don't think the rest of the nation would put a big asterisk. In front of that game. MU went NY6 But.....

Why worry about a series? If we go to Provo there will be a lot of bank to be had. Minimum if both teams are undefeated ESPN (not plus either). If not late CBS or better.

The NCAA has NOTHING to do with the access bowl. It is an agreement between the 10 conference, the independents, and ESPN. The contract states that the access bowl goes to the highest ranking CONFERENCE CHAMPION. BYU and Liberty CANNOT play in the access bowl. There is no authority in the NCAA, the "committee", or in Disney management by itself to change a contract. Contracts can only be changed by agreement of all parties. Really that simple.

Also, all BYU home games belong to Disney (ESPN) CBS has no contract with BYU.

We wouldn't be jumping BYU because we are not competing with BYU, as Sam has pointed out above, and many others have as well in numerous other threads.

This entire season has an asterisk, don't kid yourself. Playing BYU on the road does absolutely nothing to change that.

Lastly, there will not be a "lot of bank to be had" in any sense... ESPN's tv deal is already in place with BYU and Marshall's media rights deal is in place through CUSA. At best, we would get some form of minimal payout to come play at Provo on short notice that would cover our travel expenses and get a timeslot on an ESPN network.

If you need an example, we just did this... Marshall played UMass and paid the Minutemen $100k to come on down. That game was on ESPN+. UMass made the money we paid them and that's it. If Marshall were to travel to BYU on short notice, we would be in the same boat as UMass was coming here. Hence why you don't agree to anything less than a home-and-home if you have any leverage at all (UMass didn't so they came and played us for nothing essentially).

You better go tell them that, because they are convinced they will get a NY6 invite.

Again, they can get a NY6 invite as an at-large team... Not as the G5 representative... This isn't nearly as hard to understand as you are making it.

In fact ESPN's bowl projections that just came out have them doing just that... Cincy being the G5 rep and playing Georgia in the Peach Bowl and BYU being an at-large pick to play Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl.

Sooooooo, some rando fan on some website says something uninformed and ignorant. Tell me it isn't so.

and ESPN

Umm, no. Both ESPN writers predict that Cincinnati will get the access bowl slot, which MUST GO TO THE HIGHEST G5 CONFERENCE CHAMPION. And that BYU will get one of the six at-large births available.

and SI

Sports Illustrated is now owned by some rando company because nobody reads paper magazines anymore, but all that is is SI's fanboy page for BYU, where it lists excerpts from various predictions. Including the ESPN ones explained above. All of other three listed that put BYU in a NY6 bowl, the College Football News, Bleacher Report, and even 247 Sports predict Cincinnati to the access bowl and BYU as an at large.

Because the access bowl will go to the highest G5 champion. Period. End of sentence.

If you're going to enjoy it, why are you talking about "but...in any other year"?

Uhm, a lot had to do with pretty much everyone else ahead of us, winning.
From 14-17 in the Top 25, had no movement at all.
