OK Coach Stowers what happened to Cody Mitchell? He’s not injured. Was it because the new OC only uses the TE position to block?
What happened? Good young man from Point Pleasant. Hate to hear this with NC State coming in.

Id say Gaines may have moved ahead of him, seems to be the better pass catcher and ability to get open. So who knows really, only coach and Cody knows I'd say

Umm, our TEs have 7 catches for 127 yards in two games, and would have been more if not for a few drops. We definitely are using our TEs in the passing game, but it seems like Mitchell was behind Gaines and Levias as a receiver. We also use multiple TE sets so there was plenty of PT to go around, but I don't think that was his reason for leaving at all.

Gaines and Levias were both ahead of him as receivers. Mitchell was used more for run and pass blocking as he is good in that area.

Any idea if Mitchell transferred elsewhere?

Why? Can he not get a good job without a degree? This type of thinking has got to stop

Are you that narrow minded?

Yes, anyone can get a job without a degree. A degree only increases options.

However, I find it unfortunate that a young athlete would sacrifice to make it to this level and endure all that playing sports entails and then give up and leave empty handed. It is just unfortunate. I prefer to see them get something for their efforts.

That's the issue with this country, every mommy thinks their little one is best served going to college. It used to be worth something until the universities got greedy and started admitted anyone who met the standard. Having a bachelor degree these days is the same as a high school diploma 30 years ago. There is nothing at all wrong with taking up a trade and working with your hands. Quite frankly we don't have enough of that going on. I work for the government, make 48k a year, and yes it required a bachelors of science to get the job, but on the other hand, some of my friends went a different direction and make nearly twice as me, with trade/technical school under their belt. We need more of those guys in this country, it would help restarting manufacturing plants etc much simpler. If my son doesnt want to go to college and wants to make a living doing something of that nature, I will be there to encourage him.

beefcake0520 what you posted is reality. My son graduated this past May with a degree in political science and his job (no degree required) has him traveling throughout the Midwest subcontracted out working with various electric repair companies after storms, hurricanes, etc. I couldn’t be any prouder as he is working and got the job on his own without any help from me.

Or he understands that a degree isn’t necessary to get a well paying job, he had an opportunity and took it

If you fall on the side these athletes are students and not professionals, then the degree is important. I'm a firm believer in trade schools but if a kid is going to sacrifice his body and put in the time, it makes way more sense to get the degree than not. Obviously it's possible to make a good living without one but having a degree vs not having one if you're close is a no-brainer.

No degree here but tax payers make my life comfortable.! Very low rent, free health care, free gas to heat with, ultra low electric, free smart phone and name brand beer in the fridge...... Thanks y’all

I agree that we need more tradesman as there is a shortage of them here in the USA. As others have mentioned, there's nothing wrong with being a tradesman as it's usually good work that pays well.

Perhaps Cody decided that college wasn't for him and wanted to start on a career now. Maybe he lost the love of playing football. It happens. Either way, best of luck to him.

My entire point which seemed to get some panties bunched up is that we don’t know his entire situation. He had an opportunity for a well paying job. He took it. We do t know why maybe his family needs the money maybe he didn’t like school. Maybe he didn’t expect college athletic to be such a grind.
Only about 25% of college graduates actually have a job related to their major/degree. We need to stop perpetuating the “everyone needs to go to college” myth

Pipeliner jobs are the new coal jobs - high paying, with no prior experience or education requirement, but ultimately short-term due to the nature of the work. You can make good money doing it, so long as you're willing to move where the work is, but without any education, if that work ever goes away..... [cue sad coal miner music]

And I wince anytime I hear somebody say a four-year degree is the same as a high school diploma, because its meant to make kids think it doesn't really matter if they get an education. If you want a degree that will ensure you a lifetime of increased income and gainful employment, those are out there for the taking, and there are a bunch of them, but there's one huge problem with them: they're hard.

If you haven't done the foundation work by the time you graduate high school, you're not going to be able to tread water. If you manage to stay in college, you have to downshift to something easier, but now you're in a degree with no skill, getting a piece of paper with no value. In effect, if you're not taking education seriously before college, you won't make it in any kind of legitimate curriculum in college, so be careful what you tell your kids.

I find it surprising he wasn't more versatile on the team...didn't he play multiple positions in HS? Surely he could have found some other position on the field. Oh well, best of luck to him and am glad he has an income for now.
While higher learning is important, I agree, it's not for everyone, however, it shouldn't be discouraged as a waste of anyone's time.

Blame sisters. He constantly does this shit when his wife lets him use the computer
