Fritz Hollings was the governor of South Carolina and later a Senator. I believe he also made a run for the White House.

Under his leadership, a Democrat mind you, the confedrate flag was raised over the South Carolina state house.

And now all those dixiecrats are in the GOP... LOL..

It has to really burn the liberals who live off outdated stereotypes that an Indian-American Female GOP Governor is going to take down the flag, while flanked by an African-American GOP Senator, that a white Democrat in 1999 put back up.

Here is another stereotype being killed:

Things I never wrote in '08 and '12: The top two polling Republican candidates for President have Latino families and speak fluent Spanish.

Will they start tearing down monuments now? My town has one. Next to the Methodist church. It is a piece of history. Will Stonewall Jackson state park need to have a name change? Will they stop showing Dukes of Hazard reruns because of the General Lee?

Just eats me up inside to see people do things that I think should be done.

Rather than playing political gotcha, why don't you guys just state whether you are for or against the confederate flag being flown by a government entity.

Should they fly/display it? Absolutely. On top of a government building that isn't a museum? Nope.

Up until two years ago, I was a Charleston resident for 15 years. While I have always thought the flag should be honored on state grounds in some fashion, it is the state's history after all, the negative connotation from flying it ultimately became a detriment to the state. Make no mistake, even if it's behind glass in a showpiece dedicated to the state's history, people will still demand it be nowhere on government property.

When the Federal Government started weighing in on the flag, I thought they overstepped. SC wasn't breaking any laws by flying it & that perceived overreach is what emboldened supporters.

In a couple years I plan on a big campaign to get Byrd's name off of everything in the state. I figure enough time has passed that once I start pointing out to college kids that Byrd was a high ranking Klansman, did things like vote against both Marshall & Thomas, filibustered the 1964 Civil Rights Act for 14 hours, etc... - I figure this far outweighs any of the good so his name has to come down.

I wish it was flying over Virginia, including the bastard wc, nc, sc, Kentucky, alabama, miss. Florida, la, tx, arkansas., tenn, georgia, and Missouri, Arizona, and new Mexico for good measure.

If the Governor of SC were a Democrat, Herman would be bitching about Liberals spitting on history and being too worried about being politically correct.

Kentucky wasn't a confederate state. The Kentucky legislature voted to remain neutral in the war. While KY had MANY confederate sympathizers, after the battle of Perryville - which took place prior to the Emancipation Proclamation - the Union controlled KY through the rest of the war, with no significant confederate incursions.

I don't care Kentucky is more south than north. I am going to include it. They are in the Sec. Good enough for me.

The Republicans should be ashamed. They just lost any national election hopes. They won't carry many a vote in the south now. We are going to stay home now.

Have fun with hillary. Suckera.

Probably should be renamed...Stonewall Jackson should be a person that the south is ashamed of. He faught to keep an entire race enslaved so that he and his buddies could continue to profit from it. Not a man that deserves to be honored by anyone!

Don't be a fool...oops, too late.
