Dock worker strike.

No problems here on the best coast. You deplorables need to get your shit together.

This could be crippling to the economy….

I sure hope greed is all stocked up on rubber dicks and gag balls to get him through this tough time.
Cons: always obsessed with other men's genitals.

Not sure how to feel about this. The reports indicate they are requesting a 70-80% increase in wages. That seems excessive to me but they are also combating automation and job elimination.

Seems like middle ground might be miles apart.

A good chunk of those wage increases are funneled to their unions (mob). They need a pay increase too. ;)

That's how Democrat elitists and their bleaters feel about fellow Americans. Meanwhile, they are giving room, board, food, phones, cash, driver's licenses and educations to illegal foreign nationals.

Democrats and their bleaters hate America and its citizens.

Just to clarify, rubber dicks and gag balls don’t really have anything to do with your genitals, right? So his comment isn’t concerned about other people’s genitals, unless of course, you use them in your genitals.

People like me - especially people like me in states like California - give those same things to people of your kind in a roundabout way.

I haven't read much about this. I get the wage increases to some degree but what I read indictaed they were putting in "no increase in automation clauses" which come on.....we don't have stage coach drivers anymore either.

My first gut instinct is I think this may backfire on the longshoremen but I think potential for Biden/Harris to come in and "save the day" and broker a deal.

US ports are already some of the most inefficient in the world and now they want a 70% raise. Good luck America

I mean it’s a starting point for negotiations. Both sides are going to ask for things they know at the end of the day they won’t get. I’ve been directly involved in union negotiations and the things the union asked for at the start were kind of ridiculous but both sides pare it down over the course of the negotiation until there’s something everyone can live with.

I do question to what degree we want fully autonomous heavy equipment working on a dock where people are also working. I don’t know that I trust the technology to that degree yet. I think they’ll end up agreeing on some cases where full automation is safe and on some where they won’t implement because nobody wants to work next to a truck that’s driving itself.

Good point.

People will "support the strikers" until it starts impacting people. When costs go up and stuff is delayed again....

I hardly eat anything and I have a six month supply of toilet paper so let them strike.

Yeah, perhaps he referenced those items as religious artifacts.

They are asking for 5.00/hr each year of a 6 year contract, average pay to go from 37 to 67 per hour. But the biggest sticking point is the use of automation.

Are we sure the mob still runs those?

sort of

They’ll be lucky to get $2. I think they’re aiming too high with their ask, at least on this, to even be bargaining from a realistic position.

I don't know what I'm talking about but I'd be inclined to give them the pay bump but that automation thing seems like a non starter....

No clue what their cost breakdown is but I doubt they want to basically double all the pay over the next 6 years.

I don’t think a full automation ban is plausible but like I said, some areas they may be able to agree not to automate (more for safety reasons than job protection.)

they make pretty good pay already ay around 40 an hour, albeit well deserved I am sure. However ,trying to grow it to 67 hr in the next 5 years is way too much.I suppose the concern for automation would be the biggest concern.

It’s negotiation 101. Ask for more than you want knowing you’re going to have to settle for lower than that.

Unions once again show they are anti-growth, promote unemployment, and increase costs through restrictions. Kamala should tell these guys they should learn to code.

The reduction in the number of union workers in this country has done more to harm the middle class than anything.

It’s unfortunate that the unions get greedy or unrealistic with their demands…there is a place for unions and collective bargaining but we see the same tired story over and over and it has done nothing but hurt the unions in the end.

It's unfortunate that idiots like you take the side of foreign owned ocean carriers that...

in 2022 made a record-breaking $215.3 billion in net income, more than five times what they made in 2020.

I’m not taking the side of anyone. Simply stating that unions are their own worst enemies sometimes.

You certainly are. You've not mentioned anything non optimum about the corporate side making billions of dollars of net profit. They could give the doc workers what they're asking for less than 2% of what owners netted in 2022. That's not excessive. Idiot.

Hey dumb shit..it’s the union that’s striking. They are the reason for the news. They are the ones taking drastic measures that could cripple the economy. They are the ones that chose to strike just after a natural disaster.

Profit isn’t a bad word you fkn moron. Do you make your wooden products with no profit? No. It’s not a co-op and workers aren’t entitled to profit sharing unless it is negotiated.

I’m all for the workers getting an increase especially given the current state of the economy and with the cost of everything thanks to the fkn potato in the White House

There demands are laughable to most and doesn’t help their cause considering their timing and the impact it will have. That was my point.

Order them back to work. Can't let them hold the country hostage. Mexicans would do it for $8.50 an hour.

You're still an idiot. The net profit for ONE year could pay the wage increase for the 25,000 dock workers for the next 286 years. You're a stupid lying trumptard mindless punk.
