Seems like UCF fans are ready to run him out of town

We tried to warn them, we really tried but I'm actually finding enjoyment in this

That first game when even Herrion beat him, I saw UCF Athletic Director Keith Trible sitting courtside before the game and thanked him for taking DJ off our hands!

Nice

The fact Herrion beat him not once but multiple times proves we kinda made the right choice

Fever he was too feminite. Rode the coat tails of Billy the Kid.Michael Jordan's son played for him. Bet Michael didn't like his coaching.

Right choice in hiring Herrion? Because I don't know what other choices we had in that situation.

Fever - more like the lesser of 2 evils. I am convinced DD can turn this thing around. Certainly in the experience, character &
love for the school, DD is head & shoulders above...........

Go HERD !!!

Donnie Jones left by his own choice... All Donnie Jones did was make basketball somewhat relative again, after the slow and agonizing death of the Jirsa era... no big deal

real happy to have DD here now. However, I thought DJ did a solid job while he was here. Imagine if he had stayed and kept Whiteside here another year or two? I never blame a coach if he leaves for a bigger payday. I think historically many of those who left here have struggled and may have been better off staying. Oh well that's my view.

DJ did "Ok" here. Herrion did better with his players. Herrion couldnt seem to get his own guys going though.

If running up scores on Salem and Rio Grande with not one postseason win is relative, then he did that.

Sisters too feminine? Really? What are you in junior high? How well do you know Donnie? How many conversations have you had with him. Donnie is a lot of things but feminine? No. And even if he was, who cares?

I was not a fan of Donnie as our bball coach, but I have no problem with him as a person.

My favorite Donnie jones memory is the look of disbelief on his face after our intro in a nearly sold out arena with the glow sticks and the arena going nuts. That was a big time atmosphere, and you could tell Donnie was shocked that he was never able to get that level of enthusiasm out of the fan base. Herrion had the fan base wrapped around his finger for a couple seasons. Shame it all had to go down hill.

I thanked Trible after the game. He said to me. "at least he left the cupboard full for you"

There was 0 effort made to keep him. Marshall's administration took the high road though & let him walk (after paying up).

Donnie Jones is and always was an absolutely awful coach. Clueless. Lucky he got Whiteside, then took a team with Whiteside & Tyler Wilkerson and couldn't even make NIT. We'd have fired him very soon after he left.

Donnie took a better job and got paid more money for it, and left our program in MUCH better shape than when he first arrived. And we are blaming him for what, exactly?

Don't worry about Donnie. He is doing just fine thank you:

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF men's basketball head coach Donnie Jones wants to keep local talent at home, and for the second straight year he's done that by signing Central Florida stars. Jones announced Chad Brown (Deltona, Fla.), Tanksley Efianayi (Orlando, Fla.) and Tacko Fall (Tavares, Fla.) as new members of the Knights family on Wednesday.

"I'm really excited about this group," Jones said. "They bring length, rebounding, shot blocking, shooting, scoring and defense. When you can bring a class in that is composed of all of those attributes, you have a chance to make an immediate impact on your program.

"Our focus has always been to start at home in trying to find the players that fit our mold," Jones continued. "From there we go and look across the country, but we've been fortunate to have success in our own back yard. It means a lot to them to put that jersey on and play in front of their home crowds."

At 7-6, Fall is currently the tallest high school basketball player in the nation and four inches taller than any current player in the NBA. Originally from Senegal, he has been playing high school ball at Liberty Christian Prep while living in Tavares. Fall, who sports an eight-foot wingspan, averaged 11.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game last season.

"Tacko is going to excite a lot of our fans," Jones said. "Because of his size he already has the skill to block shots and rebound. He has great length and is a really good runner for his size. This is only his second year playing so he's still learning the game, but obviously he can change the game immediately with his size."

Brown, a 6-9 forward/center out of Deltona High School, has been rated as high as the 22nd best center in the country and is a four star prospect according to Scout.com. A first team all-area selection, he led the Wolves with 13 rebounds and 5.2 blocks per game as a junior.

"Chad is long, he's athletic. He can already rebound and block shots at the college level," Jones said. "Chad has a huge upside. He reminds me a bit of Staphon Blair coming in as a freshman and we're excited about Chad coming in."

Efianayi was a standout at University High School right here in Orlando before spending last season playing at Daytona State College. The 6-6 wing is one of the most highly touted junior college players in the country and is currently leading the nation with 27.0 points per game through four contests as a sophomore.

"Tank will bring experience. He'll bring toughness," Jones said. "He will be a guy who can come in and compete at a high level physically. He can score, he can defend and he can rebound the basketball. He was really highly recruited and I know he'll bring a lot to our program."

The UCF 2014-15 regular season is right around the corner. The Knights will open the regular season on Nov. 16 at 6 p.m., hosting Stetson at CFE Arena. UCF plays 10 of its first 12 games at home.

Bigo, your boy DJ is 10-13, and in 9th place in the AAC, I wouldn't think that would be considered "doing fine".

You posted a nice little article on their recruits, but I'm still waiting to find a coach that isn't excited or doesn't talk positive about their next incoming class. He needed to get a couple guys to help get them into the middle of the pack. Question is will he survive long enough to coach any of them. Seat is awfully hot in Orlando.

Why the hate guys? He is doing fine at UCF. They don't have any tradition but he is still out recruiting big teams for top recruits. He is having a tough year this year, but I for one, root for Donnie. I am glad he took the opportunity to make more money at what most would perceive as a better job.

Do I root for the Herd, first and foremost? Absolutely. Loving what DD is doing with the program. Love how he kept the team together and striving to overcome adversity (long losing streak) and is now reaping some of the benefit of all of the hard work (5 out of 6 games won).

Just don't feel the need to pile on Donnie (or Herrion for that matter) once they moved on.

Donnie definitely did good for the program while he was here, but I don't think he was an excellent coach. He had good recruits and had good relations with them (until the end). Herrion on the other hand, I believe, was much better as an actual coach but his team's declined because of his choice of questionable recruits, behavior wise. I think the Herd has lucked out with DD. Not only is he very committed to this job, but he also has the best of both worlds. He's getting his players to reach their max potiential while none of them are having behavior problems, attitudes, etc. DD isn't going to bring in anyone who could be a potiential liability off the court for his team.

who is this Donnie you guys are talking about? The only coach I care about is named Danny.

I never thought DJ was that good of a coach. But my only real beef with him is he knew he was leaving and essentially stopped recruiting for Marshall the year he left. It was confirmed to me in Jan. of his last season that he was gone. Go back and look at who we were recruiting the year he left.... I guess I'm also pieved that he left MU for UCF (in conf rival). Any fanbase would not be happy about that happening.

In his defense, his team has had lots of injuries this year...so is playing lots of young guys and those recruits he is bringing in are rated well....so they may very well have a good season next year. I do hate to admit that when I'm flipping channels and see them play, I pull for the other team 100% of the time. Bottom line he has been a D1 HC for quite some time now (7 or 8 years?) and has yet to take his team to the NCAA tourney or even make much noise in any conf tourney, so for people to think one or two recruiting classes will change that is naïve imo.

Lastly, how anyone could play/coach in that hideous arena is beyond me. That Indian corn seating color scheme is only outdone by the sheer putridity of the playing floor. It looks aweful on TV....looks like someone spilled a giant container of coffee on the floor and they mopped up outside 3pt lines imo:)

I always find the hatred of Donnie Jones interesting on this board. Donnie biggest sin was he left Marshall for a conference rival. Yes that was sucked but I also think he thought he would soon be coaching in a Big East conference with U conn Georgetown Villanova Louisville because that's what UCF sold him.

No Donnie has not proved to be a great head coach so far but he did bring our program back from the Jirsa years. Attendance was up, we had winning records, and he brought in some great players who lead us to our first post season game we didn't have to pay for since the 80s.

He left the program in much better shape than he inherited.

But you same guys who can't stand Donnie are the same guys that report Mark Snyders every move. You are happy for him when he gets new coaching jobs and you hope he gets the chance to be a head coach again some day. It's bizarre. The guy took one of the top mid major programs and ran it into the ground. He had discipline problems out the behind that Doc had to come in and clean up before he could even start building what he's built with our football team now.

I just find it very strange who you guys decide to be like once they leave Marshall.

Of all of the faults that Mark Snyder had, loyalty was not one of them. He still loves the Herd and went to visit our kids in 'Bama when we both had games down there after he left. DJ, on the other hand, is also from here, married a girl from Salt Rock (very good family, I went to school with several of them and they were all good people), and left us for our most hated conference rival at the time. Gee, I don't know why we don't open our arms for Donnie.

Just an FYI I dont expect him to be treated with open arms. I actually expect people to dislike him but i think the vitrol expressed about him is pretty ridiculous. I also dont dislike Mark Snyder and I am glad he still pulls for Marshall. Believe it or not so does Donnie. My only point is you have a coach who helped bring our program back from a dark time and another coach who took us into a dark time yet he is the one people hate. But I

it's not for me to decide who Herd fans like or dislike. I'm just glad that we have 2 coaches at our revenue sports that I am really excited about.

Program was not in good shape when he left. Pitts had literally flunked out & Kane had to be brought back from the dead.

He had exactly 0 control over Whiteside.

Glad he's gone. Never liked him as a coach when he was here. Clearly a better recruiter than Herrion (not saying much), but a very poor coach. Very poor.

Yes, I agree. I'm glad that he left. That being said, I really disliked that he suddenly blew off the Herd for a hated in-conference rival. Glad we beat him multiple times, it's what he deserved and our team played really well in those games.

At least Donnie's FUC knights were able to beat those HOOSTON Coogs yesterday. Our condolences to CoogKing, wherever he may be!!!!!
