EO tomorrow on Pharmacy and prescription drugs

I have never understood the R&D argument as a reason for why drugs cost more in the US than in other countries.
“These chumps will pay it, watch.”

And lack of a single payer plan to negotiate with them.

If this were actually going to be followed through on in a strategic way it might be ok but he’s going to take kickbacks and then give exemptions, just like with tariffs and every other big thing he claims to do. He's just running a grift, again.

If there are negotiations and purchase agreements are put in place similar to what is mentioned above, I think we will be purchasing the drugs at a similar price as our peer nations (Canada, UK, Australia, etc). I cannot imagine we will be purchasing at similar rates as Madagascar, Liberia, and Niger (Yes, @i am herdman, that name has one 'g').

Between the US paying higher prices than other countries and these shady pharmacy benefit manager middle-men programs I think the patients/US customers are being screwed.

At least someone is trying to do something about it.

Getting a boner shouldn't cost more than a McDouble. Right now, getting a boner is three times more expensive than a dozen eggs.

Medicare/CMS can negotiate some drug prices...they need to be negotiation all of them. Those prices will certainly impact what private payors pay as well.

I’m glad he is saying this stuff out loud. European socialism has been directly funded by US citizens for too long. Any idiot that cries about “free medical care” in Europe and Canada and the fact that we don’t have it, misses the point that we don’t have a greater fool to provide it for us.

We relieve them of hundreds of billions in military spending. We relieve them of hundreds of billions in medicine costs. We allow them unfettered access to our market while they charge us through the nose to access theirs. They use all that money to pay for their social programs.

If they pick up those costs, we will have “free healthcare” and they won’t. America First.

I applaud Trump for taking some action on this but I also think Congress needs to stop the B.S., come together, and support this with more impactful legislation.

TDS won't allow it.

oh, and in before someone takes the highlighted part above out of context.

As a market guy, I really don’t like it. But I also understand healthcare hasn’t been a “market” based endeavor for decades. The govt has been meddling and creating massive imbalances in a big way in this sector since the ‘70s. It’s a monstrous weave of govt official kickbacks and payoffs that have enshrined the crony capitalist that run healthcare organizations today.

“Healthcare” is the largest lobby in Washington today. Why? Because Govt fvcked it all up decades ago. And they’ve continued to fvck it up. And to play the game in the world of socialized medicine…which we actually have in the U.S, you have to have the cronies in Washington trying to keep the $$$ taps on and keep many of these companies financially viable.

Any govt “fix” aside from getting out of the healthcare business altogether (which will obviously not happen) won’t have the desired effects most claim to want. This is just another poor version of “price fixing” that will add another layer of govt involvement and manipulation.

The down stream effects of this will also be another blow to research universities, medical schools and medical providers who participate in this pharma R&D. This is a cash cow revenue stream that will shrink, leaving many of these schools and universities scrambling to find $$ to pay these tenured researchers.

Ro Khana offered up legislation that would be a copy of the eo but last I checked no gop rep had co-sponsored or supported the proposal
