If anything, espn got the best end of the deal. They were trying something unproven to try and fill programming hours. Marshall gave them a top 25 team that was exciting to watch. Can you imagine if the only options they had were Ball State and EMU? Week night football may have ended up failing, or at least having the popularity delayed. The big schools had no desire to play week nights until Marshall made it popular. Yes, it showcased our program and guys like Pennington, Moss, Chapman, etc., but we had a program and players that were worth showcasing. Espn didn't give us those players or our program.
