“Essentially, it’s an overhaul of German foreign policy,” a senior German official told me, Work on the new strategy began after Trump’s Inauguration but accelerated last spring, after the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, returned from Trump’s initial foray into international summitry rattled by him and announced that “Europeans must really take our fate into our own hands.” The painful realization, the senior German official said, was that “we might get to a situation where we see Americans not only as friends and partners but also as competitors and adversaries. We don’t want to do that. That is how we treat other great powers around the globe, like Russia and China.”

senior government officials in London, Berlin, and other European capitals, and in Washington, have told me they now worry that Trump may be a greater immediate threat to the alliance than even authoritarian great-power rivals, such as Russia and China

Oh, and to the post, they have treated us differently than Russia and China because we have behaved like the drunk, rich uncle for the last 100 years, and really as such for the last 70. They never really liked us, our power or our wealth, but as long as they got all the presents they wanted they would sit around and listen to our stories.

ANOTHER YEAR UNDER THIS PRESIDENT AND WE'LL ALL BE SPEAKING RUSSIAN.
Well, there goes the perk of having these hot mail order brides from the Ukraine. Now we're going to have to communicate with them. Might as well go back to the holler women, if that's how it's going to be.

yeah that's right trump is way smarter than all the presidents and advisors over the last 100 years that
has made America great, rich, free, and safe.

he and sean Hannity have it all figured out.

That's amazing, is there anything Trump can't make happen?

He can't make you intelligent. He also can't make you set aside your political allegiance bias and look at things in a reasonable manner.

I can understand if cheeto's decisions to skip out on agreements with our closest allies are rooted in trying to make things fair for the U.S. What I cannot understand or forgive is the moron making public, disparaging comments about the leaders of our closest allies.

Regardless of any potential economic success to the U.S.that cheeto's decisions may bring, it's impossible to quantify the amount of harm he is doing to our country in many areas by acting like a fvcking idiot.

The guy is classless and unfit for the office. As anti-violent as I am, I would not be the least bit disturbed if somebody took him out at this point (excluding the fact that we would get a scary, religious-zealot in his spot). It would be doing the country a favor.

Oh, I am extremely biased. But I can still be biased and know that publicly degrading the leader of your closest allies and calling him names is unbefitting of the office, an awful strategy of international relations, and does not have a single positive benefit for the U.S.

If you had any ounce of rational thinking without grabbing your ankles for cheeto, you'd reach the same conclusion.

Well, rifle, nice non-violent comment from someone who was probably sure some violent, redneck, republican would surely shot Obama because he was kinda black. And you call Trump the classless one?

What exactly bothers you most about Trump? Is it that, despite all his faults, he is actually carrying through on what he said he would do, completing more of,his, platform in the first 18 months than any president? Is it that the economy is smoking for all people regardless or race or gender? Is it the record high stock market which has led to a $7 trillion increase in household wealth since he took office? Is it the fact that he hasn't put us in any new military actions?

I understand you don't like his agenda, but it's the agenda he ran on and he won. Obama was everything I abhor in a politician and to a certain extent I believe his true goal was to divide the country, create civil unrest, and usurp our position on the world stage, but I never wished death on the guy. I knew he was limited by time and the country would survive his poor leadership.

Oh, and as to your post to herdman, your view is cloudy by your misguided belief that we are actually deriving a tangible net benefit from our "allies". It terms you can understand, it's like saying rappers shouldn't say bad things about their hanger-ons who are just there to ride the rappers jock and take his money because they are their allies.

So, for that, he deserves to be assassinated? Geez rifle, in the last several years you have gone from a good pot stirrer to having fallen completely off the deep end. Sometimes I sit back and laugh at how you get everybody's collective panties in a wad, but sometimes I think you legitimately need help. You're sitting here saying that a man needs to be shot and killed because he isn't tactful. You can't argue against his results one bit, so all you can do is whine about his demeanor and hope someone with more balls than you shoots and kills him. Meanwhile, the country is doing fantastic (read banker's post above for specifics), and all you can do is cry because you're nothing more than a crybaby SJW anymore. Go take some testosterone or something.

The allies who have been ripping us off and not paying their fair share?

The allies who practice unfair trade?

+1

There's a right way and a wrong way to do this. He's pretty good at the wrong way. Containing the real assholes of the world requires us being on somewhat the same page.

Your assassination paragraph is not cool. It's the job of the electorate or Congress to can his ass, not an assassin.

American has been on a downhill run for the last 50-60 years, glad to see the trend reversing.

that is a ludicrous statement, from a ludicrous backer of a ludicrous and traitorous president of the united states.
you deplorables are a hopeless lot. since there is no reasoning with the unreasonable and delusional we will just move on without you all.

See, this is the completely biased and clueless bullshit that I mentioned. It is the same dumbasses who cheeto mocked when he said he could shoot somebody and wouldn't lose any of his supporters. He even called out morons like you guys. You see only what you want to see and keep the blinders on for everything else.

Carrying through on what he said he would do? How about his promise to not cut social security or medicaid?

Propose a constitutional amendment to impose term limits on all members of Congress? Guess he forgot about that one.

Mandatory death sentence for cop killers? Nope.

Lock her up? Nope.

How about the special prosecutor he promised he will get to investigate Clinton? Nope.

$550 billion in infrastructure? Where is it?

Hiring freeze on all federal employees? Nope.

Invest an extra $20 billion into school choice? Nope.

Expand what libel laws cover? Comically nope.

"Closing parts of the internet" where terrorists are being recruited? Ha!

Bringing a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding? Nope.

Establish a commission on radical Islam? Nope.

Guarantee 6 weeks of paid maternity leave? Nope.

Changing the vacinnation schedule of children because he thinks it is linked to autism? Nope.

Create health savings account? Nope.

"Total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the U.S." Nope.

Use U.S. steel for all infrastructure projects? Nope.

Remove the existing Syrian refugees? Nope.

Increase visa fees? Nope.

Have the Treasury Secretary label China as a "currency manipulator." Nope.

Grow the GDP by 4% each year. Failed in his first year. Nope.

Sue the people who accused him of sexual misconduct. Nope.

As president, wouldn't take vacations. Nope.

Release his tax returns after audit is complete. Nope.

Rewrite tax codes to allow parents to write-off child care deductions from their income. Nope.

Cut the tax brackets from seven to three? Nope.

I can keep going if you'd like. It is exactly what I said during the election. He is like a middle-school student council candidate. He promises a shit-ton of things, has no way of doing many of them, and has a higher percentage of uneducated supporters than any other candidate who are too stupid to realize that.

Then, when he actually does do a minority percentage of what he promised to do, those supporters - full of stupidity and bias - think he is keeping all of his promises.

This is yet another point I have harped on. You guys are so blinded you look at one aspect: "oh, the Dow is up and unemployment is down!" That is one small aspect of being a successful president.

Yeah rifle, how dare we harp on results. Let's just call Trump a racist and forget about how much better things are getting thanks to his policies.

And my reading comprehension is just fine. You would have no problem with someone with more balls than you murdering Donald Trump. You think it would make the country better off. You've stated this multiple times on here.

Reading comprehension.

Mine's fine. It would not be good for the country if someone killed Trump. Assassinations can exacerbate divisions. Keeper believes Lincoln was a despot, but the South taking it in the rear after the Civil War was a consequence of him being killed. And it's just bad juju in a democratic system. Thus, it's not cool. If he were an actual dictator I'd be all for it. Otherwise, the people or Congress need to wise up and do what is right for the nation.

I can believe Lincoln ushered in despotic Executive power and an end to the experiment on 1783 and believe Lincoln's death directly led to Jim Crow and 100 years of trouble.

Lincoln's multiple terms (he would have served more than two) would mean no Klan and no Civil Rights era.

It isn't fine. What you've attributed to me saying is completely different than what I said. I said that I wouldn't be disturbed if somebody took him out (excluding the Pence scenario). You claimed that I said he needs to be shot and killed . . . and went deeper by saying I said that because he was tactless. I said neither of those things, hence, your reading comprehension continues to be the same as it has been for over a decade on here.

I don't know what world you're living in, but the phrase "took him out" means one thing and one thing only. Not sure who you think you're kidding. You might be too much of a pu$$y to say what you actually mean, so you're trying to walk it back, but we all know what you meant.

so what are you upset about - you all have said much, much worse.
stop whining.

I'm not denying that at all. It's just that what you're claiming I said is entirely different than what I said. Again, it's an issue with your reading comprehension.

I said I wouldn't be disturbed if somebody took him out (assuming it wasn't ordered by a foreign government). What I did not say - and what you did attribute to me - is that I said he should be killed for being tactless. I didn't say that. I also didn't say that I "hoped" it happened. Again, you attributed that to me.

There are numerous people who I wouldn't be disturbed about if somebody - an individual, not a foreign government - took them out. None of them would be due to being tactless. None of them I necessarily "hope" it happens to.

Reading comprehension. Try it.

Lincoln's multiple terms (he would have served more than two) would mean no Klan and no Civil Rights era.

Yet the consensus of historians is Lincoln's death led to the "radical Republicans" totally dominating the weak Johnson, brought out the very ugly on both sides, led to the South being punished more than rebuilt, and without a doubt worsened the condition of Southern blacks.

I believe Lincoln's health would not have let him serve more than a second term.

I think the whole war could have been avoided.

The Great Europeans. How many men did we lose in WW1, WW2, Korea, and Vietnam getting involved in their damn messes? Oh, and Kept the oil flowing in the Gulf War.

The Canadians have lost 157 men in 17 years Afghanistan, the Brits 454, Germans 54, and French 87.

This is damn global problem and that is what these panty waste loud mouth contribute.

I am sorry their collective European pussies hurt. The next time they start a world war our boys will be right there freeing their asses again and spilling blood and leaving guts on their fields.

F em, get over and pay your fair share. Bastards won't even pay their fair share to NATO.
