Its clear, you are only a conservative when it is necessary. Laughing at a govt that (supposedly) cracks into a private protected patented technology is bizarre. More importantly, one should wonder "WHO" that third party is and why an outside entity other than the govt should have been allowed to do it.

This is exactly why the govt is becoming more dangerous and intrusive than the 3rd world goat herder terrorists they claim to be protecting us from.

they haven't cracked it. they think they can, but they haven't even begun to test it.

They know how to crack it or they would do this. Hopefully Apple is really secretly helping them and doing the right thing in this case.

Apple could have done the right thing as an Ameirican and they chose not to. Greed over country. Can you imagine them doing something like this in WW2. We need your help, Apple with this Nazi code and the refuse?

The terrorists, aka enemies, are using these phones and prepaid phones as their communications devices. The governments across the world are going to crack down it. Only a matter of time.

* yawn *

But that's not what the FBI wanted. They wanted a Back door into every phone

right. this isn't apple saying fbi can't hack into their phones, it's apple saying they're not going to do it for the fbi for a variety of reasons.

i am kind of curious about what happens if the fbi and this third party (or even nsa who is rumored to already have created a way to hack into iphones) create their hack and it somehow gets out and is used nefariously. i wonder if apple could sue the fbi/government/third party...

Completely different scenario you are putting forth as it relates to WW2 analogy. COMPLETELY different.

Bullshit, Raleigh. There should be nobsafe haven for criminals if presented with a valid warrant, period.

So what you are saying is that the govt should have an automatic "in" into the software of a company regardless (key that unlocks proprietary products) so that information can be obtained in order to later get a search warrant to gain access to anyone's phone moving forward.

Again, this specific request by govt is unprecedented. You don't have a govt asking for a code to a single "vault" (phone). You have the govt demanding the code for every "vault" (phone) they have built and sold.

This is what I suggested a few weeks back when this issue popped up. We have past Secretary of States that can't keep their emails secure and somehow we are to believe the govt is going to protect the proprietary product of Apple from getting into China's or some other hack's hands.

No. The warrant should always come first and should be narrow and specific.

No. The warrant should always come first and should be narrow and specific.

Again, thats not what the Feds are wanting. Due to the IOS software a "master key" is what the Fed is demanding. It's why the court upheld Apple's challenge to their request. There was no narrow/specific demand being made.

But there should be a "master key". Period. And yes I am aware of the dangers of that. Then only allow that to be used with a warrant.

If Apple is worried it would fall into the wrong hands, perhaps Apple needs to improve their internal security.

our government is the last organization that should be demanding companies improve their internal tech security.

Big waste. I don't blame Apple at all. It's not like the government will do anything worthwhile with whatever it is they find.

Hell, they'll probably offer lifetime welfare to anybody they find on the phone. Feel sorry for them. Blame it on global warming or how mean we've always been.

finally got a chance to read some thoughts on some people much more highly educated on the topic than myself. the generally feeling is that the fbi may or may not have a way in, but this pull back is more because the fbi may be feeling they weren't going to win the legal battle and quite possibly lose some power they currently have under the all writs act.

it'll be interesting to see how things progress with this over the next few weeks...

No they didn't. They asked apple to help them get into one phone. Apple could have still contained the intellectual rights to the code to unlock phones. The government wanted the data off one phone. They did t ask for the program to unlock them.

Sometimes yoy do the right thing. F apple. They didn't do the right thing.

How so?

We are at war whether people want to think so or not.

The goon dicks are hiding behind these phones for communication and coordination. It would be the same as the nazis using our telephone system in ww2 to communicate in code and we do nothing about it.

Greedy corporate assholes with bo sense of duty to country.

Yeah they would have stopped at one phone and they would want that back door built into every phone

So why didn't apple just say we are good citizens and try to help with ine phone

Apple put corporate greed over national defense

Apple was willing to help until the incompetent police force forgot the password which wiped the phone clean which would require a backdoor to be created

Not even the same as this............

It would be the same as the nazis using our telephone system in ww2

Which of course isn't even the same as the current scenario. In this case, the govt is wanting to crack the code of an American company's product. Not the code of a couple insane goat herders in the desert.

I give you credit. You would make Putin proud.

This is the kind of govt Herdman Castro thinks should be allowed to be given the keys to proprietary industry secrets...........This is the kind of govt that is going to "protect" us from terrorists........pffft.

The Apple executive told reporters that the company’s engineers had first suggested to the government that it take the phone to the suspect’s apartment to connect it to the Wi-FI there. But since reporters and members of the public had swarmed that crime scene shortly after the shootings occurred, it was likely that any Wi-Fi there had been disconnected. So Apple suggested the government take the phone to Farook’s former workplace and connect the phone to a Wi-Fi network there.

The executive said that Apple walked the government through the entire process to accomplish this, but the government came back about two weeks later and told Apple that it hadn’t worked.

Apple didn’t understand why it had not worked—until the company learned that sometime after the phone had been taken into the custody of law enforcement, someone had gone online and changed the Apple ID that the phone uses to conduct backups.

This means that the government’s best opportunity to get the desired data was frustrated by the changing of this Apple ID, according to the Apple executive. If the phone had indeed backed up to iCloud, the data would have been recovered, and Apple would not now need to resist the government’s attempts to force it to create a backdoor for its operating system.

All I am saying is Apple could have tried to help and they didn't.

They chose not to help which is a problem in this country now. Companies and people don't want to help.

Sometimes you have to do the right thing.

WRONG. As both articles correctly pointed out........Apple did help in multiple attempts. But, the govt......as usual.....demonstrated complete incompetence, fvcked up as usual.........and then attempted to use the "Bernie Sanders" socialist method of driving public opinion against a business to force a company to cave in on their legal rights. Sometimes the "right thing" is standing against govt tyranny and forced ignorant public opinion through erroneous propaganda.

Hahhaaa and no search warrant needed now. Let a foreign govt do it.

Apple screwed up

So you wouldn't help if in your business you could provide data to help figure out a terrorist cell.

Well there you go. Apple now has stepped in shit because the whole world now knows Mossad can hack their phones.

Do you guys really think Mossad/ Chinks/ Russians havent been trying to hack the Apple encryption for years already? Lmao. Probably safer in the hands of the Israelis than our own US govt anyway. Jews are stingy with their intelligence.

Additionally no one can really confirm whether or not the encryption has been broken. Probably more govt misinformation.

You don't think apple has a way to unlock that one phone ? You realize the china's ate hacking it anyway

Then the fbi should have just called the Chinese
The commies have a data base of every American service personnel. They are hacking American corporations emails as well. They are also listening to them via electronic surveillance.

The jihad goat screwers ate using phones...in particular the iphone and prepaid cell phones to communicate with.

It is a damn shame Americans are not patriotic anymore and we have to go to Israelis to get help.

that's weird. I am reading that article on the Israeli company. NO evidence they can crack it. A lot of boasting but not much else yet. Herdman Castro propaganda again.
