Lou Mott a really good lead guard for Marshall in the late 50’ and early 60’s has passed. “Little Lou Mott, as the great Jim Thacker called him on radio, was 84. This one is personal for me because as a very young boy Lou was my favorite Marshall player and I attempted to copy his terrific all around floor game.

Lou was my first sports hero As a grade schooler in Pine Grove I saw all of his home games and many on the road.
He was the first 2000 point high player in WV. He was the game MVP of the WV- Kentucky games in Huntington and Ashland. Over teammate Jerry West.
MU played a freshman game in Pine Grove in November 1956. I was there watching Lou and I've been a Herd fan ever since. He was a great friend.
I will miss him.

I remembered you knew Lou on a personal level. Together we can give him a proper salute with this thread. Not many left who watched Lou play.

One of his daughters has reached out to find sheet music for the Marshall Alma Mater to be played at his funeral tomorrow. I have guided her to get in touch with Director of Bands, Adam Dalton. Very classy to want to play it at his funeral. Lou and I were born and raised in the heart of wvu country. I can pretty much assure you that this will be the first time that song has EVER been played in Wetzel County
