Game Thread: Marshall vs Charlotte

Doc why does your play calling and game management suck...?

Well as you know we have a young team, there out there working hard everyday getting prepared all week, they all can fly, there football IQ is very high, they say we're rebuilding and we just need to rebuild together and start executing.

Our coaches have a great plan that never changes nomatter what defenses were up against, if there blitzing corners were still gonna run off tackle, same game plan as always we just gotta start getting the young guy, well everyone involved, I've said it before I'll say it again coach legg is a great friend he knows what he's doin so well he doesn't have to create anything new or change his style, it has worked the last few years and it has to work now, so he tells me. Thank you

Well at least Litton's number will match the number of wins he will get vs. FBS teams this season.
Litton was one of the few positives. We had problems with a bad running game again, receivers dropping passes, bad O line play, stupid killer penalties, another lackluster performance by the defense and a kicker that has trouble making field goals.

Yes, but even the commentators called Litton out for not going through his reads. He had a decent game, but he still has a ton of mechanics issues.

Not knocking his performance per say. Just the irony of all the swagger and build up has turned into probably the worst season since the 70's

And that might help explain why fans think the same four plays, are called. Bill Legg might know that his QB is struggling to understand much. He might have had to dumb down the offense for Chase.

Litton desperately needs a legitimate QB coach.
He could but he still did well. Litton had no running game to help him out once again. Until late in the 4th our running game was only averaging around 2.7 ypc. Davis mad a couple of nice runs late to bump it up but we still only managed 3.7 ypc for the game. This coming off of last weeks 2.5 ypc performance. We have a running back sitting on the bench that is averaging 7.5 ypc for the year that could probably help us but Doc for whatever reason has some sort of issue with him and he sits just like Doc has done with other talent through the years.

Our receivers dropped several passes including Clark dropping a critical 1st down forcing us to try a field goal with a kicker that has trouble making anything past 10 yards. Our O line still has trouble opening running lanes, protecting the QB and even just playing without getting drive killing penalties. Then of course you have our defense that has trouble stopping anyone. We have lots of problems. We have far bigger issues than Litton.

You can't dumb down an offense by calling the same plays.. if u dumb it down you don't allow chase a read option and you tell him three steps and throw, don't read anyone.. fewer plays just tells me legg sucks badly.. and if he has dumbed it down it was done a few years ago cause it still the same plays in the same order... Cato made his own plays out of broken plays... legg is like that old art teacher that tries to tell you "the artist" your drawing wrong, he can't find creative in his playbook... if you suck you have to try something completely different

Poor mechanics and not going through your reads doesn't equate to lack of ability to learn plays though. QBs can learn a thousand plays, buy that doesn't mean they are smart enough to execute. Legg doesn't even try.

I respectfully disagree. Not making the correct pre-snap reads or going through progressions indicate an inability to understand the offense.

Fair points home2.

Litton had more than 4 plays in his playbook last year and did ok. Im quite sure they didnt dumb down the playbook. I think Legg is a pretty bad O.C. but when you have as bad an O line as we have you become more limited in what you can do and what you can call.

Yes and when you have bad or weak spot you have to figure out something else that works.. maybe go under center and lead with a full back or a toss or a reverse anything different.. hell try the wing T at this point.. handing off every time on a read OPTION 7 yards from the line of scrimmage doesn't help a weak line...

Hell, if offensive line is so bad, why do the vast majority of our pass routes appear to be long out patterns that take time to develop or for the receivers to get free? Nothing seems more stupid than having a 3rd and 5 situation, say, and Litton is back over towards the right hash and throws a 30 to 35 yard pass across the field to the left sideline which is completed for about 3 to 4 yards: result, 4th down. Either our receivers aren't taught, or not smart enough to remember, how important it is to get to the Sticks, or just beyond, ON A POSSESSION DOWN!! In general, our pass routes to me seem to be mainly to about 20 or 30 per cent of the field. Not enough quick slants, no down the seam sit down patterns (old button hooks), no post patterns, etc. Need to get our tight ends the ball down the middle or across the middle and let them run. Every pattern does not have to be to the sidelines, where in essence the sidelines become an extra receiver.
