I would say Grant is ahead of Chad at this point. Not ready to say he is going to be better. However, even if he doesn't end up better he is pretty darn good. I think we got ourselves a really good QB for the next couple years.

Not taking anything away from Wells at all but sometimes it's hard to tell as a fr. I remember how excited I was about Chase Litton as a freshman, he was breaking some of Penningtons records too I believe. I think that Grant Wells acts way more mature at this point than Litton, maybe more like Pennington, which should allow him to continue to only get better as a player and leader.

He looks better than Cato did as a freshman and even a sophomore. Remember the boards were split over Graham and Cato. Cato had a lot of detractors until he finally turned the corner(as did the team) when they had their "not over our dead body" game @Tulsa in 2013.

Cato caught a lot of flack for locking on(especially to Shuler) and looking absolutely petrified to run the ball.

So far Grant looks like he has a really good handle on the offense, can make all the throws, and never appears to be rattled. Which I think goes in large part to him already knowing the playbook.

That was the biggest flaw of Green's game. After read #1 he had no idea where to go with the football and plays quickly devolved into panic driven imrpov that rarely ended in success and stalled a lot of drives.

I mean we basically have the same receiver group from 2019 and they look worlds different.

Grant Has never gotten rattled in all the years I have watched him play football as well as baseball. He also is not afraid to run the ball and I think throws a beautiful deep ball.

He works hard and is quiet and relatively humble. He will continue to work hard, get better and will never embarrass Marshall off the field.

Grant has more speed than Chad, but Chad seemed to be able to sidestep the rush and get off the pass. Both are cerebral and cool under fire. Chad was an inch taller. Chad's dad was a coach. Grant has had a redshirt year to learn Cramsey's system. Chad was thrown into the fire as a true frosh. Only time will tell if Grant can develop each year as Chad seemed to. I like where we are as relates to the QB position. Sammons will be a good one too. He had the red hat on Saturday and was passing signals to the field.

This is an unusual year for a lot of reasons, the biggest being the most obvious. I think it would be best to hold off on these comparisons for a bit, because I think they are slightly unfair to both players.

Chad Pennington is the most Marshall football player of all time. If we had a human logo, he'd be it. We don't love anybody as much as we love Chad, and I don't see anybody trying to get in line to change that.

The interpretation of passing rules in college football have changed significantly in the last 25 years. It has become a far more offensive-oriented sport, and comparing stats - as we saw with Chase Litton - can be misleading.

Hands down the best deep ball we've seen since Byron!

Chad had a RS too. It just came in his sophomore season when Kresser came in with Pruett.

Agreed Byron was the man. Great to see him and Brady meshing In Tampa. Heard Tom say some nice things about him In a Interview.

I would go with Bradshaw. I never saw him lose a yard on contact, he always went forward. Kind of like Knox.

Byron used to take trashcans and set them in the back corners of the end zones and drop dimes from the 50.

@MU PIKE I'll tell when I knew that Byron was the real deal lol. It was at a CCF event that brought in Bobby Bowden. Byron and Tamar Slay were down at half court in the Cam. They were tossing those little plastic footballs into the stands. The ones you get at the local high school games.

Anyways Byron had one more left he pointed up to the upper deck. Dude was sitting on the row right around where you walk out of the tunnel from the concessions stands. From the half court logo he drills the dude in the chest with a perfect spiral.

I have never been so amazed in all my life. You ever try to throw those little things?

I was so happy when GW actually read the zone-read in game one. He has either progressively gotten worse at this, or the staff has called more "gives" over the last four games. I'm yelling at the TV again.

Now, if we're comparing Wells to Cato/Litton/Green, then it's still night and day. Those three haven't made a read yet. It's just that I had such high hopes in this area. Still early in his career and I'll hold out a final judgement. Wells is still by far the best leader of the bunch, even over the front-runner Cato, who had a remarkable will-to-win but was a dick both on the field and in the locker room.

I agree he had a couple where he would have gone 10 yards plus if he kept it. I would think it’s more designed but they need to loosen up and let him pull it So they can’t key on knox.
