Great article on the transfer portal garbage

And yes, they were probably overrated out of high school. But there's a lot of gray area between being an overrated top 100 recruit and being able to contribute at Marshall.
Bingo.

I really think this will be a net positive for MU. We have a coach with STRONG connections and relationships throughout the country who also recruited a ton of the top level talent in college football. Just because a kid couldn't crack the two deep at Bama orOhio State while playing behind two lottery picks doesn't mean he can't tear up C-USA.

As I said the other day, the portal taketh away, but it also giveth.
He showed some promise but was perhaps a step slow as an edge rusher in the B1G.
Perhaps a step slow in the B1G = perhaps a step quicker than C-USA.
What’s preventing an SEC school that doesn’t currently have a soccer team from starting a team and poaching ALL of our starters?
Nothing, but MU is now a top-tier soccer program. If anything we might be the program poaching players. This season was not a fluke, Grassie has something going.
Hell the Duke's, UNC's, and Kentucky's of the world are having trouble dealing with it in basketball but you don't think it will hurt Marshall?
I think basketball is a different animal. Those three programs reap what they sow, period. They do not run on any kind of loyalty and promote one and done. It's your turn to start senior year and coach brings in some Zion like dude that won't even be bothering to go to class, you leave.

Like Chris just said. We may lose a Pennington and pick up 6 Jerrald Long's or Juwon Youngs. Are they Heisman level players, no, but how many Chad Penningtons have we had since then?

Show up and support the team, sale the place out no matter how we are doing, and the coaches have to constantly recruit and make kids happy.

Is what it is.

I fully believe it will help schools like Marshall out more than it will hurt.
A very informative article from Rivals on the portal. https://n.rivals.com/news/three-point-stance-parity-underappreciated-players-top-coaches
