Marshall fans have been social distancing at Football games for the last 5 seasons. What is limiting capacity supposed to do?

We absolutely have an attendance problem but the Pitt and Boise games both would have had 30K plus inside the Joan.
I think a 30k crowd for Boise would depend partially on what we do in the first 3 games. Heck the Pitt crowd could depend on what happens in Greenville

Fair points although I think the crowd for Pitt would be good regardless of how we played against ECU.

If we were 0-3 heading into Boise we may have a tough time cracking 30K. I suspect enough people would come just because it was Boise that we would, though.

By the time we play Boise, social distancing should be over.

Boise on a Friday night will be lucky to draw 28000. They won’t bring any fans and we killed our out of town attendance by moving the game to Friday

I don't think so. Many have pointed to this game for some time; and even early on, there were rumblings of moving the date. Many coming likely made plans accordingly.
Thankfully both Midland and SV play out of town that Friday, so that will help as well. jmo

Weeknight games ALWAYS hurt attendance sans wvu/cincy. A team 2000 miles away isn’t going to bring fans.

We'll see. I think it will have more to do with our record than anything else.

you are correct. and I think Thursday and Friday night games are a little different than other weeknight games. silly to lump them all in a statement "weeknight games" .

Well, he could always just say, "no fans for the season" and that'd be that.

Considering the amount of people in front of everywhere, MU fans are going to want to be at the games. You'll see a pretty good demand for tickets.

Really, so many questions about this HERD team going into the season, that its hard to be too confident about the team's chances in any of the first four (non conference) games.

Opener at ECU. Pirates improved greatly as the season drew to a close. They return a gunslinger QB who threw for over 3,000 yds. last year along with 3 top receivers and 3 experienced running backs. If the game turns into a shoot out, can HERD O led by an erratic and inconsistent QB score enough?

Home opener with Pitt. Panthers will always have enough talent and Beef in both lines. That's 2 positions where the Herd has some serious questions and looks in 2020 to be undersized, especially versus a Power foe.

Away game at Ohio U. Although the Bob Kitties lost their long time and prolific leader at QB, the HERD under Doc always seem to struggle versus OU, particularly at Peden. Frank Solich always seems to take Doc to the Coaching Woodshed!

Home against Boise. Broncos always seem to have plenty of high Quality talent. Won't be fazed by the JOAN. Boise has a history of going on the road, or to neutral sites, and whipping :"bigger fish", BCS and/or Power foes, both in the regular season or in Major Bowl games.

HERD starts 0-4 and with two of our better CUSA games, WKU and LA Tech, being on the road, and the least of Hammy's problems for the remaining home games will be that of maintaining proper social distancing in the JOAN!!

Also we dont have a choice in moving it to friday.

I have heard from someone with knowledge in the athletic department that the possible maximum that will be admitted is 12-16k. Under the same scale I was told that Tennessee with the over 100k stadium will be allowed to admit 38k

Potential fan attendance for the Boise game are all rumors until football comes around. I do agree that playing a marquee game for us on a Friday night is an attendance killer.

Can only speak for myself but I'll drive 2 hours + for the Pitt game but will sit at home and watch the Boise tilt.

We sold out Louisville and even stripped the stadium. That was for a terrible team that just lost to Akron and our starting QB was out.

We sold out that Louisville game before it was announced that our QB was out and we had no prayer (they held that announcement until a few hours before kickoff). And it was really their fans that pushed it to a sellout (Beyond our usual 32-33k), they had thousands there beyond their allotment. We were surrounded by red at midfield.

I had season tix 28 rows up on the 50 yard line on the east side. We had U of L fans all around us. I asked a few how they got those seats and most simply went on Herdzone and bought them. They were left unsold to Herd fans.... I gave those seats up before last season. I was at game last year with a ticket someone had given me. It was a chairback. I hate those seats so I went over and sat in my old seat. I can't believe that 50 yard line seats that I gave up had not been taken by someone. In fact. I noticed that the 4 seats behind me and 2 seats next to me were vacant as well. Those too had been occupied by relatively longtime Herd season ticket holders the previous year

My sister in law and her husband have bought Sec109 tickets on a single game basis for years. They sit about half way up the grandstand right on the mid field aisle. They have never made a donation to the athletic dept.

Your observations and experience, Herdmeister, and no doubt many, many more similar ones of other Herd fans no doubt help explain why Hamrick and the Athletic Department have been totally MUM on season ticket sales the last couple seasons or so.
