Is it true that Marshall is one of the only schools in the country that has a basketball complex without AC?

It is - and has been - an embarrassment to be at the D1 level and be uncomfortable. One only needs to drop by in the summer to appreciate the true warmth of the HC. MHs air circulation system installed several years ago do nothing but circulate hot air. Thus other than volleyball and men and women’s basketball the HC sits empty at times when - if it were air conditioned - could be used for so much more i.e. concerts, events like graduation, etc. JMO

True. Also true that we are 1 of 3 CUSA schools without a practice facility
Why did they give up the Aux gym in the Cam? That could be a fairly decent gym with some new flooring, paint and such. I know the Band uses it, which is a waste. They only have 150 or members. They could use an classroom in the old Science building or somewhere else. jmo.

I’m still baffled at the need for “basketball practice facilities”.
This.

More or less, basketball venues divide into two types. Some municipal arena that gets set up for basketball day of, and then hosts something else the rest of the time. And places like the HC, which is permanent and available 24/7/365. If the Icecapades is in your arena tonight, you need a place to practice.

It seems that practicing on your home court would be an advantage.

You’re not taking into account the multiple sports using the same space each day. That creates scheduling issues. A basketball practice facility would alleviate that quickly.

What does the band use it for?

Scheduling isn’t that hard. Volleyball practice in the morning women’s basketball goes at 2 men’s basketball goes at 4:15 women’s volleyball game at 730p if no practice and can move men’s or women’s practice to morning on those days if need be.
See it’s not that hard

With all the HC "upgrades" that were done under Hammy a few years back, I believe that upgrades to the arena exhaust fans and ventilation baffles were done to improve overall air circulation and, hopefully, cooling in the arena proper. So whassssss the probbblem? Except maybe for those folks sitting at the top of the north and south nosebleed bleachers??

i am baffled at the new for indoor football practice facilities but, they are a reality now.

Alright. I am shocked that you found a way to disagree with me. 120 players needing to find a place to practice several different skills in different groups spread out all over an area, practicing OUTSIDE in the multiple seasons. vs the need for 13 people to shoot and dribble.

But aight

Football is played outside. How did they do it for 100 years? Point is that is the modern world has them. Same for basketball

Dumbest post of the week. Teams have to work practices around their own student-athletes' academic schedules at times. Now, you think it's no big deal to have them work their practices around multiple other teams using the same facility? This isn't JV high school sports.

But let's show how much dumber it is than that: Now, you want a sport pegged to a certain end time. So if a coach (or players) want to get extra work in, they can't do it, because another sport is scheduled to use the same facility. A few basketball players want to work together on something after practice on their own? Good luck going over and doing that in the student-rec center. Nice job setting your programs and athletes up for failure.

But let's show how much dumber it is than that: pretend the volleyball team gets back from a road trip at 2 am. Their practice time allotment is at 6 am. So should they get up and practice a few hours after they go to bed or should they be able to practice in the afternoon like any other program would be able to do after arriving late from a road trip?

Yes, scheduling would and is a nightmare under that scenario.

And that doesn't even mention the recruiting aspect of it.

And by the way, cheerleading also has extensively used that same facility historically. They, too, need a place to practice that allows them to use the same surface they will be performing on and get used to where they will all do be during their performances.

Could have added on the the football facility on the south side and created a basketball practice facility very easily... but our great city of Huntington allows the building of yet another bank.... I never understand Huntington..

Maybe it was private property and not owned by the state nor city.

Maybe we should have a practice facility for each sport. IPF, Henderson Center, Rec Center, Gullickson. Too bad we had to tear down the old Women's Gym.

Having no AC can be blamed on the mountainqueers crying about needing a practice facility or something so they cut our AC out of the budget and gave them the money.

The city still has to issue the business licensing... which is easy to say “no not another bank”
Actually, no its not. Little thing I like to call the Constitution. Read it sometime.

Actually, the HC budget cuts have to do with Rockefailure. The building (100% taxpayer funds) of a new stadium holding over 60K for a team drawing about 30K was predicated by Huntington politicians on the HC. Rockefailue, the worst thing ever to happen to WV, and particularly to MU, was so inept that major budget cuts had to be made to not only the HC, but every construction project the state had going on. He gave the 90% federal match to build Corridor H back to the feds because he had so broken the state he could no come up with the other 10%. Corridor H still is not finished. A horrible person. In fact, MU and most of the state colleges (but not WVU) came within 4 days of closing in bout 82 and 83 due to state bankruptcy. Rockefailure didn't even care, but the legislature forced off the books borrowing to keep the doors open.

IMO having an a basketball practice facility makes sense. However, until we build the stinking baseball field we need to hold off on this and any other project. At least the basketball team gets to practice in our own facility which has to help out on gameday.

MU just has never had the discretionary $$$$ to be able to buy up the necessary nearby and adjacent property to the main campus whenever it became available. Goal going back to the days of President Robert Hayes was to expand east of Hal Greer, supposedly to square up the campus between 3rd and 5th Avenues, eventually perhaps to 6th Avenue, up to 20th Street, and perhaps a little beyond eastward.

Never, apparently, could MU manage to negotiate successfully to purchase the former Glazer Furniture building along 3rd Ave. Former owner was a POS when it came to dealing with MU, believe he even threatened to sue the school during President Kopp's tenure. Look at the former Morgan's bookstore location along 5th Avenue and 20th Street. Became another Drug Store location. Between the indoor practice facility and 5th Avenue are a house, a burger joint or two, another business building and I believe a former Pizza Hut location that MU should have purchased whenever such locations went, or go, on the market. Yes, a lot of these owners are going to squeeze MU financially and charge probably a lot more than said properties are worth. Just think it would benefit MU immensely if it could get a completely enclosed main campus without have residential and commercial property intermingled with various University structures/facilities.

and what would be the legal reason to deny another bank? Not following you here.
Legal reasons are we don’t need anymore banks, look I don’t know what the answer is but I do know Huntington allows Banks to be built in some of the best locations for entertainment and family venues.. that’s all I’m saying, maybe someone at the city building needs to think about this..
