Back down to mediocrity? I saw a team in the CUSA championship still reeling from the loss to Rice. The team played without enthusiasm for the most part and our pass coverage on defense remained suspect. I hope the Herd players and coaches are truly embarrassed. As for any bowl game why?

We beat absolutely no one for 7 games, talked ourselves into being legit, and then got exposed.

And before someone says "What about App State?"... This years ASU team is their worst in a decade or more.

The bigger issue is what the hell happened to our intensity? Our guys looked like they didnt even want to be there last night. Like a group of guys who dont much like each other and certainly aren't sold on playing hard together.

Im no insider, Im not in the locker room, but Ive played on dysfunctional teams and that is what we look like.

There is clearly something wrong. This is not the same team it was before Rice. The last 2 games have looked like 2016 all over again.

I agree that we were not as good as advertised because of the competition we played but we were good.

I appreciate the good that Doc has done in his time at Marshall. I believe he loves the team and the school. But, it is time for a change. It’s the perfect time with his contract up. He can retire and not cost a buyout.

I couldn't agree more. We might not have been NY6 good, but we took care of business against everyone we played, until the wheels came off. I don't buy that it had anything to do with injuries or 2 deep depth. Something happened inside that locker room. BTW I'm completely convinced that the Charlotte game was cancelled for the simple reason, that if we had played that game, we would have seriously risked not winning the East.

SHIT HAPPENS!!!

The fact that it happens way, way too often under Doc is what is driving so many HERD fans, alums, etc., out of their minds!

See I didn't see a lack of effort. I thought they looked a lot better than they did against Rice from an attitude and passion standpoint.

What I saw was some of the worst coaching and play calling I have ever seen. Especially considering Doc is in his 11th year as a HC and like his 40th year coaching in any capacity.

The calls and when they were called were horrendous. The staff constantly put the offense in positions to fail. I keep going back to our last possession of the first half. You take the knee and go to the locker room. What did Doc and Cramsey do? They put there struggling freshman out there deep in his own territory and had him throw a short out that could have been picked.

Where were those Gaines wildcat packages against Rice? They could have actually saved Grant from himself had they done that when he started to show signs of coming unglued then.

Doc looked like he quit a lot more than the players did.

You have one if the best RBs in the conference and you don't try to establish the run to take pressure off your struggling QB. Nope. Nope. You forget about him for the second straight game.

I just can't get over what I watched the last two games.

Not one member of this staff should be back on 2021. Not one single coach.

Why a bowl game? For the honor, for the prestige of attending and playing, but most importantly, to get a share of the bowl payouts to help with the athletic budget woes.

We get a bowl share from CUSA no matter if we play or not. Playing means 2 shares instead of 1

Don’t we barely break even in bowls anyway and that is because the conference will make up the difference if we lose money?

The conference has a limit for bowl expenditures. We do usually do little more than break even. Keep in mind, in the past the team spent 4 or 5 nights along with staff families, band, school officials etc. This year the team will be there 1 night and I doubt that the team, families etc will be going at all

The team looks like they are tired of being sequestered on campus for the last 6-8 months. They are probably ready to call it a season. Hopefully, Admin is smart enough to let the team vote if they want to continue the relative isolation through the bowl season. I'm ok if they just want to throw in the towel and leave campus now.

I know Chuck Landon has his detractors, especially after the DJ injury reporting, but he is the only writer that dares challenge coaches. Today he is picking up the scuffle/fight/battle royal or whatever happened as possibly the catalyst for the implosion of this team. I’m not saying he is 100% spot on, but it is very clear that there is some smoke.

The comment I found most interesting was a rumor that veteran players had input early in the season and suddenly their input was no longer wanted. Again, no clue about the validity of this. Read for yourself

I don’t believe everything I hear or read and really didn’t want to believe the fight rumors, but anyone can see that something is up.

Guys, I don’t know what to say. I read the article. I don’t know what to think or feel about Marshall Football. I’m just at a loss this Sunday morning.

Change is necessary, we are a program that is stuck in the wrong gear, I want to see us win the Conference 3/5 years or better, dominate the hell out of this watered down league. Our conference has not always been, but has quickly become, THE weakest league in FBS. Buffalo or Ball St could have walked through CUSA this year. Ball State, (how 2020), had the will to win the MAC; yet our guys laid down and rolled over with a title in a headlock—-we tapped out and submitted to ourselves.

If we don’t make the change now, get to the next level and win this league perennially, we are doomed as a program. It is that serious. Our product is so self defeating and hard to stomach, You see head scratching things in our games you can’t even replicate, we find new ways to be abysmal and get creative with ways to **** up a season.

Those that love the Herd are ready for the torch to be passed to a new coach who has something to prove.

I sat behind the UAB bench and noticed that their receivers kept coming out of the game, running over to the sideline, clutching their nuts. At one point I saw it happen to two different receivers on consecutive plays.

Marshall recruits guys who choke their girlfriends in front of cops, not guys who break up passes. What kind of team culture should we expect, really?

It’s not like we were recruiting alter boys previously. I seem to recall a certain defensive player throwing bowling balls at his girlfriend.

I don't think I was upset at their dirty play as I was knowing they have to play dirty. It's one thing to punch a dude in the balls to stop a touchdown catch, but when you're giving the decoy slot receiver's jewels a jostle, you might not be that great at football.
