I need one of you all to explain that to me. I remember it was darn cold back in 77 or 78.

The Polar Vortex. And, what is with all this naming snow storms. Killer Snow Storm Fred. Awesome Alice the Snowstorm. It is a snow storm. I think that is just for tv ratings.

Winter of 1977 was frigid and lengthy.
It was the year of newly minted Gov. Jay Rockefeller’s “White Death” Blizzard that was going to wipe out Cabell County until it petered out around Olive Hill, Ky.
Christmas morning 1983 it was -21 at our house in Htgn. I stayed up all night building toys and keeping the pipes from freezing. The naming of weather makes it seem more ominous and “out to get you” personal. It’s about media ratings which means it’s about money.
It’s about money, your answer to almost every question.

I remember that. 77 and Rockefeller sent us all home from school. We went and got my grandparents and brought them to our house. Had plenty of wood and coal to burn when the electric went out. Put water in the bath tubs. We were all prepared and not much happened.

I know we used to have some cold winters and you had to keep the pipes from freezing. We would wrap them in towels. Open cabinet drawers.

We always had outside dogs. I don't remember bringing them in though. Maybe on the poorch and we had them a good dog house and covered it with old blankets or something and lined them good and they had a flap over the entrance. Dogs were tougher back then.

No doubt dogs have turned into pussies. :D

if you really care - which you don't (you just want to show how "individual 1" you are - this will open your eyes.
for anyone who is genuinely interested this is actually very entertaining and revelatory.

The polar vortex extending into North America and Northern Europe has a lot to do with global warming. The Arctic is warming at a pace twice as fast as the rest of the world. This is exacerbated by the melting ice. This is causing a destabilization in the polar vortex and jet stream which means it is driving the colder arctic weather farther south.

You can google it and read a ton of articles...but you won’t. I await patiently for your next, “How about that local weather?” to disprove global climate statements. This of course is in addition to a tweet from the president saying it’s cold in Chicago.

So, it gets cold in the winter. And, some winters are colder than others. Just like in 77 and 83.

These are the record low temps in Atlanta, GA. Was this before the Global Warming Polar Vortex push to the south?

-9 degrees, Feb. 13, 1899
-8, Jan. 21, 1985
-6, Jan. 20, 1985
-5, Jan. 11, 1982
-3, Jan. 30. 1966
-3, Jan. 24, 1963
-2, Jan. 10, 1982
-1, Jan. 6, 1884
0, Dec. 25, 1983
0, Jan. 17, 1982

Now the argument is Man Mad Global Warming is so bad that it makes it colder, but look at the records. Guess it has never been cold in WV before this Mand Made Warming Polar Vortex.

Polar Vortex folks. It is really bad now, it is cold in the winter!!!

The bride and I took a trip to Italy this year, and one of the stops was Venice. While there, St. Mark's plaza flooded (it wasn't the huge flood that occurred this year). We were told the plaza flooded an average of once a year from 1915 - 1925. Through the years, the flooding got gradually worse....growing more prevalent during the last half of the 20th century. In 2017, the plaza reportedly flooded 63 times.

And just like that your next post is using single weather events to disprove climate change.

This particular polar Vortex is a single weather even. You used it as well.

The global warming alarmist have a moving goal post and I have even heard the term ambulance chasers. It is so cold because man made global warming. It rains so much because of global warming. The hurricanes are worse because of global warming which has been shown to be hogwash.

This is not the first time a "vortex" has dipped low and made it colder for a few days even in southern areas.
