Let me just state for the record that the intention of the plea deal was 100% to give Hunter 100% immunity from any further prosecution of anything. The DOJ knew it and Hunter’s attorney knew it. The problem arose when the judge questioned it and put the DOJ in a position where they couldn’t publicly say on record “yes, we are granting a de facto pardon for every crime he may have committed so everyone will quit digging”.
They were hoping for a rubber stamp and didn’t get it. The bickering between the sides wasn’t due to different understanding, it was theater to cover the fact there weren’t two sides in the case, only one.
