How's He Doing?

I would say that for anyone to win the Presidencey now requires more than winning those 3 states. Trump pulled off an upset win because he was able to flip a few former blue states as this article by Wa Po points out.

Both articles you linked kinda prove my point. Trump won Ohio, Penn, & Florida, but also flipped Wisconsin & Iowa...but their combined electoral votes don't bring what Ohio, Penn, or Florida have. Trump only needed those if he didn't carry the three I mentioned.

Also, in the La Times piece, it mentions that Trump had a +15% advantage in Scranton/Erie, PA, Youngstown, OH, & Daytona Beach, FL. Again, proving my point.

A republican has never won the White House without Ohio. Could be some freak coincidence, or could show that actually, only a few states matter. And I don't believe anyone has ever won the White House without 2 of the 3 (Ohio, Penn, & Florida).

Yep you are right, but what I was saying that in his case he needed to flip a few blue and not just rely on traditional red states or so it would seem

Single payer was the end goal of Obamacare

And for better or worse, I think ultimately it will be worse, we will have single payer in <10 years

I don't believe that was the goal, because he was blasted in the 2008 primaries for not promoting single payer; there is a strong Democratic base that demands it.

Demographics and money are why we will eventually have single payer or a hybrid model.

Not counting the presidents before Ohio and Florida existed as we know them now, there were three instances.

Grover Cleveland (1884) lost Pennsylvania and Ohio, but won Florida.

Grover Cleveland (1892) lost Pennsylvania and almost all of Ohio, but won Florida.

JFK (1960) lost Florida and Ohio, but won Pennsylvania.

Thanks!

I put "I don't believe," because I figured there were some pre-20th Century. The JFK one does surprise me.

Don't play dumb. The popular vote argument is the only leg Dems have had to stand on since the election so they can say, "Not my President!"

When you questioned herdfan06, asking did he "not believe the American people should get to pick the POTUS?"
I think the people saying "not my President," would be saying it regardless of the popular vote outcome. There were a lot of Republicans saying Obama was not their President and Obama cleaned the house in 2008 and 2012 in both the popular vote and electoral college.
I do not believe I questioned myself, I believe it was herdman. Regardless, I fail to see how you are correlating me posing a question to me saying she should have won due to the popular vote.

I have never said Obama was not my president nor any other president. In fact, I have said I would have taken a bullet for Obama out of duty to the country and respect for the office.

I might be a hard core Republican but I am an American first.

I don't remember anyone saying obama wasn't their president

I know, I was not implying that you said that.
