Doesn’t sound to reassuring that there is/was a plan in place regarding conference realignment.

“I’ve had numerous conversations way before it hit the Twitter bug about this conference realignment with our administration and our leadership,” Huff said. “Our leadership has a plan that I’m 100 percent behind. They are doing it the best way for Marshall University athletics and Marshall University as a whole. What we have to make sure we understand is you have to take your fan hat off and say, ‘OK, what is the best for Marshall athletics?’ And I’m not saying that’s to leave or stay. Our administration has a plan that we’ll roll out here when they feel is necessary after gathering all the information.”

Looks like we are headed to the Sunbelt unless C-USA is preparing to add Liberty and James Madison

SBC boards say their conference is interested in us, but we haven't told them we 100% want to join.

More I think about it. I don't know. I don't want to be stuck for another 10+ years in an App State + everyone else conference. If some reason, they bolt, then we are in the same situation we are now.

If we don't leave CUSA other teams will. We decline the SBC they're taking USM and someome else. You want to still be here them playing with JMU, Missorui St, and Sam Houston State???? That's what will happen. Unless that mythical regional league is created.

Yeah, if the Belt chooses to expand and takes USM and perhaps WKU? People still want to stay in CUSA? The league would be one step above the MSAC in WV HS sports. Talk about truly CDOA.

You don’t stay in a damn conference for Liberty and JMU
you do if nobody invites you. So far nobody has publically done that that I am aware of. The MAC will not take us back. The American has never wanted us and all I have to go on with regard to the SunBelt is chatter.

Why is everyone so darn fixated on JMU? They are I-AA. They CHOOSE to be I-AA. That simple.

If you look at a map, and at the enrollments, school missions, etc. MU fits in the SBC. MU would be average in size and similar in mission. Our huge advantage, is everyone else plays in the huge shadow of the ACC, the SEC, and/or the SEC2B. We have nothing like that, just a far off school in a conference of leftovers that some are now calling “the middle one” as “power 4, middle 1, G5”.

The issue with the SBC is, however, very simple. These schools were all I-AA within the last decade. It is not certain that they can sustain the $$ needed to meaningfully participate at the higher level. I don’t think every one of them will, particularly since it looks like the economy is going south really quickly and for a long time to come.
