Huntington Zoo

My quasi-inside source is indicating that it’s a real honest to god zoo that they’re going to put in.

on 58 acres?
Are you thinkings that’s too small or too big? Colombus is 82 acres and is on the large side. The Santa Barbara zoo feels decent sized (they’ve got giraffes, gorillas, lions, a bunch of other stuff, used to have elephants), and is only 30 acres.

It’ll be considered a small zoo but on the bigger side of that classification. That’s plenty of room to get a lot of exhibits in, judging from my experience with the SB zoo.

Check out this map. About half the space is for events and stuff, they still fit about 500 animals in, and this is about half the size of what we’re talking about.

I hope it’s successful, that’s be a really cool thing for Huntington to have.

That why these animal rights people get worked up.. not much room for an elephant or zebra or rhino
I don’t think overall zoo size is usually the problem there though. They cheap out on enclosure size because bigger enclosures cost more. They could limit their number of big animals and give them plenty of space in 58 acres, if they design it right.

There used to be a zoo in Winfield. We made a trip there in elementary school. I think it was around till about 1970. And of course Camden Park had a small zoo at one time, even had seals and a few other water animals.

When I was at Marshall and attended games at Fairfield, they brought in a live full grown bison in a circus cage. They parked the wagon past the north end zone. If they get a zoo, might be an interesting idea to revisit.

We all know what happened the last time we had carts near the field.

That's 95% of what I do when we go places while the wife shops. The other 5% is having to occasionally carry the bags around and loading shit up into the back of the SUV.
I mean, look at what is cool now. Louisville, it's all booze tourism. Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, there are several moonshine places. Nashville, everyone gets drunk downtown. Asheville has a bunch of brewery tours.

Me too. Louisville Zoo is 135 acres. I lived on 66 acres, and I can't imagine cramming a bunch of wild animals onto that.

There’s some farm nearby with Buffalo that my driver’s Ed teacher would have us drive out to.
