that post on Herd Nation. What is GOOD enough for you?

(1) Do you attend HERD football games to watch MARSHALL [more] or the opponents [more]?

(2) I support the 2014 edition of HERD football was scary good...our best team since our 1999 squad (AP # 10). Just my opinion. The fact is we will NEVER know which squad would defeat which team. Purely speculation!

(3) Marshall had an impressive 118-19 overall record at The Joan...a winning % of .866 starting this season. Alabama ranks second with an .825 winning % at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

(4) In 2010, The HERD hosted wvu in front of our largest crowd...41,382. This is why we need the mountaineers on our schedule. WAKE UP LEGISLATURE & GOVERNOR. FORCE it to Happen. Oliver "not so Lucky" is GONE.

(5) Rakeem Cato set records, both for The HERD & the NCAA that will stand for a long time. But, yet some of you (armchair QBs) scorned him. He could have walked on the Ohio River and some of you would have complained his steps were too slow!

(6) Doc Holiday is ON BOARD...yet some of you critique him like you could do a better job managing our team & coaches. I say...."Jump in & you practice & coach just one game." In my opinion...your ass would be hanging from a large tree in front of the Memorial Fountain after our fans got through with your poor coaching decisions.

Bottom line....Marshall is a member of C-USA. Accept who we are. Our team played the schedule that was available. *****TEAMS are not beating our doors down to come to Huntington and ADD TO MARSHALL'S WINNING %. I yearn for the days we will dominate ALL sports in C-USA. We are a LONG way from those days! Folk's, our Football Coaches & Players have worked hard to elevate us to the top of the League. I AM PROUD TO SAY....JOB WELL DONE...."Keep Pounding" and let's capture the Flag next season.

C-USA is the best for Marshall now! We do not qualify (academically & athletically) to be anywhere else, except, perhaps for the new Atlantic Conference. The SEC, ACC, big 10, or any other major conferences ARE NOT GOING TO BE CALLING OUR NAME....anytime soon! At least, I will not live to see the day!

My hats off to Mike Hamrick...he has done one heck of a job. Jump in his seat for a week and you would be throwing up & jumping off the Ohio River Bridge.

MY MAJOR CONCERN.....Finding a replacement that had the vision of Dr. Stephen KOPP. Folks, it will not be an easy task.

Merry Christmas & a Wonderful 2015.

Gary Sweeney (HerdZilla 22) in Charlotte

Honestly...I think there is only a handful of people giving you that impression. Most people agree with the things you post. Unfortunately we judge the group by the very few who struggle with people being happy. That's ok...people have a right to an opinion. Those who show a history that crosses into agenda over time will quietly go away without fanfare. Several have already.

GK....I am long in the tooth....when I attended Marshall 1965-70....we had the second longest football losing streak in the Nation. But the students and adults attended games with the hope of better days ahead. I cried when we Marshall won our first National Championship in 1992....I am a product of the plane tragedy....I love Marshall like a man loves his bride. That's why I give $$$ what I can....I miss Dr Kopp....my heart is broken because he was a nice guy to me. I travel to see THE HERD play....not to see who they are playing. HERDZilla 22.

Sweeny fans from the crash era are by far the best. Younger fans will call other fans liar's when they say they followed the herd through 20yrs of losing seasons. Sweeny it was alot more fun back then.Fans cry over who we play. Why. Our schedule now is vastly superior to fhe vmi, the citadel, furman, appy state, western carolina.east tennesse state, morehead, wv tech.

So, you want the state legislature to force the game between WVU so that you can sell out the stadium? I was at both the WVU games in Huntington, wearing my Gold and Blue....along with about 25,000 other people. Your stadium was turned in to Morgantown-South for those gamedays.

I'm not flaming here, take this however you like, but how is this game good for both WVU and Marshall? How is it "good for the state" as a whole? Your point #4 is why the game shouldn't be played.

You are right, sorry, I exaggerated the attendance numbers a bit. But I would say it was close to 50/50.

Dude I was at both games it wasn't in the stratosphere of 50/50. I would say WVU had a rough d 8K at the game. Which for the a Joan is a phenomenal away attendance considering most teams bring 6 fans. But it was an overwhelming Marshall crowd. Not remotely close to 50/50.

Seriously? That's your estimate? Wow. I was there, too. If the attendance was 41K, no way that only 20% was WVU fans. It was way more than that. But, that is beside the point.

Based on that photo, yeah, 8K seems about right. Maybe 9K at most.

Back to the original post. Has been a great season and athletics and academics on the rise. Kopp will be EXTEMELY difficult to replace. The BOG needs to get this right big time.

Dear eer troll. you have been exposed as an ignorant troll, so go far, far away now. Go back to your cabin in the holler.

Well spoken, Mr. Sweeney. My thoughts, and I doubt that I could have stated them better than you did. Do disagree only with the WVU point. I could not care less if we ever play them again.

Um, no. More like 75/25 Marshall.

Wvu brought a great crowd and did sell out our stadium. So why the need to lie and say wvu had 25,000 there. That's just stupid and illustrates wvu fans MU complex

It's not too hard to figure out... If you live in the state of WV (a state with only 2 D-1 football programs) it's black and white on game day you are a WVU fan or a Marshall fan.. and if for one Saturday during the fall the attention and importantly the economic resources generated by instate rivalries, remain in state... how can that NOT be a good thing?? it seems that every other state has figured this out... except for guess who? yeah a state that really could use the cash and exposure...
