If one of “The Faithful” from December of 1971 was transported 53 years into the future

…what do you think their reaction would be reading through all of these threads?

Someone might call you disgraceful for comparing the two...

I think it contrasts how self-absorbed and spoiled we have become as a society. Determination, sacrifice and grit that the Young Herd had are in extremely short supply today...😥. I like the old-school and throw-back people in my life better as a general rule...

….I don’t think “shocked” goes far enough. Many of us posting on here meet the definition of the thread title. We (back then) were so humbled & grateful that, one year separated from the greatest tragedy, we were able to experience a full season (esp 09/25 vs X) with the YTH. The one win that created the basis for WAM, where Lengeyl says (once we progress to where winning means everything, and nothing else matters) “That’s when we’ll honor them.”
I believe this is another test of our faith. Do we believe that with all that’s happened over the last 10 days things in the long run will be ok? If so, let’s trust President Smith to guide us through some initially choppy waters. I don’t believe we could have a better leader, in good times obviously but even more so in a difficult spot.

I will never stop believing that the Marshall story, unique and unparalleled in sport, transcends any challenge. Keep the faith!

I am friends with many on Facebook and I think some post here. I would summarize that they are disappointed in the bad PR, are hurt that the players that stayed do not get to play in a bowl game, understand why we would not be competitive, but also are critical of the "health and safety" reason.
You have to remember that they were also perceived as a weak, out-manned opponent, knew they would be challenged to be competitive, took a few (a lot) of big defeats, but overall are better men for it when they did overcome the odds.
I think the lack of position players is a better reason not to play, and I wonder why they did not say it?

Being Marshall means fighting against the odds. As a Herd fan, no one promised us "a rose garden." I agree with W-S, just keep the faith, help anyway you can.

Incredibly, the song, with the classic “I beg your pardon, I never promised you a rose garden” was released in……..1970!

The song ”(I Never Promised You a) Rose Garden” was performed by Lynn Anderson. Released in 1970, it became her signature hit and one of the most iconic country-pop crossover songs of the era. Written by Joe South, it earned Anderson a Grammy Award and topped the charts in multiple countries.

Where am I?! Is this a message board? I used my one-time travel voucher for this? When did we become a soccer school? Seriously, they should upgrade the stadium bathrooms already. Also, who the heck is this Rifle guy everyone's talking about???
