Now is the time to do it.

Let Rice and UTEP walk to the Mountain West if they want and plunder the four best teams from the MAC.

Northern Illinois fans are in full meltdown about how winning the MAC means nothing (After three straight ass kickings by teams from other G5 leagues in bowl games)... They are ready to jump ship.

Toledo is finally good again and if they knew NIU was coming I think they wouldnt hesitate to join. Toss in Ohio and Bowling Green and make our league better.

CUSA East
Marshall
Ohio
Toledo
Bowling Green
Old Dominion
Charlotte
FIU
FAU

CUSA West
Western Kentucky
Northern Illinois
Middle Tennessee
Southern Miss
Louisiana Tech
UTSA
North Texas
UAB

As a bonus, that league would essentially end MAC football unless they plundered the Sun Belt. And if that happened, Sun Belt football would be no more... Either way. Win-Win.

Problems with this:

1. The MWC has stated they're not currently interested in UTEP and Rice
2. MAC teams have no desire to leave the MAC
3. Adding said MAC teams would do little to make C-USA more attractive and add 4 more mouths to feed
4. There's no guarantee BGSU won't suck again without Babers. Or Ohio when Solich retires.

A reduction in a number of teams would be a blessing at this point. No need to add more. If anything, C-USA should take a cue from Bugs Bunny:

After the first week of bowls, it looks like we might be better taking Arkansas State and Georgia Southern.

How sad is it that adding those 4 Mac teams would actually make our conference better. (Still don't see it happening) but it's a thought
MAC champs runner up ? Big time losers , just stay the course it'll come 360. It's an embarrassment to Mac little m blown out by teams that wanted it. GA Southern hey we're going to run the ball Heads up we're going to run the ball Hey we're going to run. Losers

If CUSA added teams, I would prefer Arkansas State and Georgia Southern, just in terms of athletics, over the 4 MAC teams mentioned. However, adding Georgia State and Texas State adds two schools with large enrollments and bigger media markets, which the conference needs too.

Georgia State lost to Charlotte, no way I want them in this conference.

If we are going to add anyone is UTEP and Rice leave. We need to look at Toledo, NIU, Georgia Southern, Arkansas State, and ULL and pick the 4 who are ready to come in an compete in all sports

I wish those schools was considered first over ODU, UNCC, and NT

The conference could use the Atlanta media market over Toledo and DeKalb.

It's hard to argue that Toledo and NIU bring enough to the conference and their increased travel budgets could be a deterrent.

Both NIU and Toledo both travel out of 2 Major Airports in Chicago and Detroit. I don't think travel would be an issue for them. Matter fact Toledo has 2 major airports they could fly out of and get the best rates

Saying Georgia State = Atlanta media market is THE AMERICAN!!!!!! level stupid spin. Yeah, it is IN Atlanta. Nobody there cares. Just like Houston, UCF, USF, and so on.

Anyway, if this whole "cost of attendence" (pay the players) deal really comes to be, it is pretty certain that the MAC is heading for a break up. The Cincy Enquirer did a study of the MAC plus YSU and UC, and it really is subsidized. The programs are run off student fees (even though students don't go to the games) , state budget money, charging off what are really athletic expenses to ROTC or Phys Ed or general budget, and a very few donors. Not much TV money, almost no live gate (Akron, for example, sells tickets for $8) and a couple of boosters per school.

About half of the MACers are willing to hit up the students for even more. About half think that a good education from a good college is enough and also understand that the programs have no potential to grow stuck playing on random weekdays for ESPN. One half will look elsewhere, the other half will take the MAC I-AA.

The deal is not to look at who is "good" in this one year, but over time, and who has at least some potential to build by having some boosters and some fans that buy reasonable priced tickets. We do not need four or six fanless programs in dying Rust Belt cities. WMU has potential. NIU tried to get bigger than the MAC once before and came back with its tail between its legs, but has potential.

That sad, there is nothing at all wrong with CUSA as it stands right now. Win them all, play in the Access Bowl. Get to play on SATURDAYS.

I like where you are going with this for sure, but I don't want those MAC schools.

I'd rather CUSA East break away and take the top members from the Sun Belt.

EAST

Marshall
ODU
App State
Ga Southern
FAU
Charlotte

WEST

WKU
MTSU
UAB
So Miss
La Tech
Arkansas State

This is what CUSA should look like

East
Marshall
ECU
UCF
USF
Temple
UCONN
NAVY

West
Southern Miss
LT
Houston
Memphis
SMU
Tulane
Tulsa

Here"s my take for what its worth. I think C-USA is a good conference. Notice I didn't say great! Look at the big 3 sports.
>Baseball- By one RPI index we are rated #8, not bad in my book.
http://warrennolan.com/baseball/2014/conferencerpi
>basketball-By the same index we drop down a to #19. No shock here, although I say we should be a little higher IMO than a couple ahead of us.
http://warrennolan.com/basketball/2016/conferencerpi
>football- By the same index we are rated #8 out of 10 FBS conferences.
http://warrennolan.com/football/2015/conferencenpi

Now to sum up my thoughts. The AAC is rated higher in all 3 sports. Now that begs the question do we join them if asked? I say we have to weigh 2 costs.
Financial- the cost of exiting C-USA and joining the AAC has to be reasonable. Will it hurt the school?
Potential- here is where I waiver.Football.The path to a NYD6 invite is the same. It is made more difficult by virtue of a tougher conference schedule.I am not 100% convinced that we would not have received the invite over UH if we had run the table this year.Basketball. Currently we have our hands full and playing a harder conference schedule will not get us to the big dance. Baseball, we are already in one of the better conferences a move doesn't help much.

I have learned a few things from raising children. I decided to enjoy them each phase of life. That way I was never looking ahead to when they could do something and miss the chance to enjoy where there were in the moment. Same with Marshall. I loved the Southern ,MAC and now C-USA. If we move on so be it. But for goodness sake I am not going to miss a chance to enjoy the moment!

Getting flights out of Detroit and Chicago would make traveling easier. However, paying for those flights when the majority of their road games now are by bus is the travel budget issue.

Toledo might travel a bunch by bus but I am not sure NIU travels much now by bus. Their closet conference opponent is Ball State and that is 4hr trip.

Plus also most of the conference teams in CUSA is close enough to Major Airports which helps a ton with travel costs.

This. I understand we play a poor schedule in conference, but damn.. How's that our fault? So we try damn hard to be great, but no one else gives a shit.

Which is exactly why the league needs restructuring to begin with.

At least Toledo, NIU, Arkansas State and Ga. Southern have shown that they give a damn about football... that's more than I can say for FIU, FAU, North Texas, etc.

I think FAU cares, they wouldn't have built that stadium if they didnt
and I would add that ODU and UNCC have a plan to grow football and care plenty about football. I cant believe we have people saying that MAC schools have a better plan, they have been stuck where they are for 30 years most of them. At least the fans dont leave after the band plays at half and go back to the dorms and watch the other state school play on tv

Its funny you say that, I was at the UNCC game this year and the most popular guy in the stadium was the guy sitting in the next section over who kept yelling out scores from other area games as he listened on the radio... No one in Charlotte, not ever the 12k people that were at the game against MU, give a damn about UNCC football.

Jerry Richardson built them a 16k stadium as a tax write-off and suddenly they "have potential" the only thing is, they dont. I have lived in NC since I graduated from MU (in both Raleigh and Asheville) and UNCC highlights dont even make the local news unless they are playing one of the eight more popular schools (NC State, UNC, Duke, Wake Forest, Clemson, South Carolina, Georgia or East Carolina).

Heck, the night they played us I was sitting at the hotel waiting to see the highlights on the local Charlotte 11 o'clock news. It was 15 seconds of us scoring a TD and them making one tackle for loss... Then it was 5 minutes of Clemson, UNC, South Carolina, etc.

really how many people were at the Kent game? About the same. What is the attendance avg of Miami of Ohio this year? How much air time does Ohio U get on the Columbus or Hgt stations? I lived in Charlotte for 7 years and I can tell you the people there especially the UNCC and CPCC folks will support it.The MSA is 2.3 million and not all of them went to ACC schools. They wanted it for years so there has been an interest forever.Believe me when I say Charlotte has plenty of people and plenty of money to support that school. The ship has already sailed for E. Mich and Ball State.

NIU fans need to worry about winning the bowls they get. They have lost 3 in a row.

So people don't leave Marshall games at Halftime??

People aren't going to support losers. And if they really cared they would have built a stadium bigger than 15K

they said that about us when we played at 18,000 seat Fairfield Fever.

We also was playing FCS ball and was winning from 87-96. Winning breeds support something Charlotte knows nothing about

In Charlotte 2 years in the FCS they didn't beat 1 winning FCS program and even lost to a D2 school. They move up and wasn't competitive at all.
