In regards to Conference USA opponent's

Kent's last 30 games against P5 schools has yielded two wins.
Marshall's last 30 games against P5 schools has yielded three wins.

Marshall isn't striking fear in any P5, and they definitely aren't doing it enough to keep them off of schedules.

It's not the powerhouses that are afraid to play MU. It is the middle of the pack and lower P5. Louisville chickenshitted out of playing Cato in our house.

Whether you choose to accept it or not, the top tier college football schools look at teams like Akron, Kent, New Mexico, Georgia State, and Marshall in the exact same manner.

This year was actually an easy one for me to pick games to attend (I buy season tickets but usually only make 3-4 games coming from NC)... I always go to the first home game of the year. Am I disappointed its VMI, a little sure, but Im still going to go out of tradition... Then give me Cincy a month later in Huntington, homecoming against WKU and Thanksgiving on a long weekend against FIU and I get four home games. I'll also drive the 3 hours to Charlotte for that road game.

Looks like a good plan
to support HERD FOOTBALL. I may copy your scheduled plans.

I hope we can get the access bowl spot but honestly, we have the 15th weakest schedule in America per ESPN. Even winning out, a solid UCF or Memphis or maybe other AAC team gets in over us. We would have to win out and have a lot of help to get in.
Boise and Cincy are both ranked higher than over half of the P5 schools, and both are perceived as good programs nationally, so beating them would look good on our resume despite them not being P5 schools. One way to look at it is that we are playing for the Access Bowl bid and not the playoff. Only 5 G5 programs will be eligible for that bid at the end of the season and we could potentially take out 3 of 5 with this year's schedule if we win those games. That would just leave the Sun Belt champion as the only school that could prevent the bid going to us and I like our chances in that situation. I still consider UCF the favorite as they will get the bid based on their reputation from the previous couple of years like Boise St did in 2014 over us if they win the AAC. I just want a good season where we win the conference and then anything else happening on top of that is gravy.

2020 Chris is rock solid.......2019 is questionable! Cinny is not big-time football. WKU will lose most of their contests. FIU will most likely win CUSA East. ONE solid game (FIU) at home plus Homecoming game draws alumni.

Out of town folks face lots of expenses that you locals do not!

You do realize that Cincy is considered to be 1 of the top-2 teams in the AAC in 2019 and went 11-2 last season? Ohio went 9-4 last year and are the favorite in the MAC. Boise St went 10-3 last year and are the MWC favorite. In CUSA, we are considered the favorite, but we have a good conference schedule at home this year with ODU, WKU, La Tech, and the showdown against FIU. The 2019 schedule is one of the best we have had in years.

As I said, we would need a lot of help. You are describing just how much we would need

You always need help. The teams you schedule have to perform. Let's say we had scheduled to play at Ohio State this year and go up there and win, then they turn around and go 5-7. That win just gets dismissed.

There is a lot of skepticism about this being true based on if it were true, why did we wait years to announce it.
I was sitting with Mike at the CUSA basketball tournament in Tulsa 6 years ago and we discussed teams that were coming in. VMI was on that list.
As to why it was delayed, you will need to ask Mike

I would say it was used as a bargaining chip to get Elmore cleared.
No Elmore, we cancel the game. Jmho

I could care less if a game with VMI was used in some manner relative to Elmore or not. ALMOST every (since the mods have rightly banned the mental defective, I really don't need the "almost" qualifier, lest I risk a long post that can be summed up as "I spent an hour on the internet and found one exception, I'm smart, look at me, look at me, look at me) so lets just go with every I-A team, P5 and G5 plays a cupcake game. Alabama is playing Western Carolina. LSU is playing Northwestern Louisiana State. The vaunted Boise State is playing Portland State. The object of the anti-Doc crew's envy, Central Florida is playing Florida A&M. Locally, Ohio State is playing Florida Atlantic, Cincinnati and Miami (not the real one, the one in Ohio), USPAM is playing James Madison, UK is playing Toledump, Eastern Michigan, and Tennessee-Martin, and Ohio is playing Rhode Island.

And Marshall is playing VMI.

If it is beneath you to see that, don't come. More beer for me, because I go to MARSHALL games to see MARSHALL play.

Even if I am there, you can have my allotment of beer. Yes, I too go to see Marshall pay, not drink beer!

Agreed. I don't care who we play, mark me down as present.

Here is my 2 cents on the matter. Granted we can survive with fewer seats. However, we will be hard pressed IMO to draw the P5 schools like Purdue and NC State to Huntington unless we have a stadium that will accommodate a crowd of at least 35,000. For example, Ohio seats about 24,000. Maybe 26,000 with people in the grass. They have Iowa State and Srycause coming. Other than Kansas they struggle to get any P5 to come to town. Those three schools are the only P5 they have drawn since 2010 and will host through 2025 in Athens. Sooooooo, I would rather have some seats sit empty an have the ability to host WVU, Va Tech etc, than Iowa State or Kansas once or twice every 10-15 years.. Finally, the cost to build today is crazy. If we tore those seats out and later decided we needed them the cost to rebuild would I suspect cause us to regret such a hasty decision.

Good point Sammy. A ? for you from an earlier post: You thump your chest as an unabashed, fervent supporter of Marshall football. All in, you might say.
Yet, in describing your views of Marshall basketball, players who wear the same Kelly green on their jerseys, you describe yourself as a “impartial” observer...
Can you ‘splain that? ‘Cause I get excited over all of the sports programs...

I admit I haven't read through the entire thread. That being said, my views on all things Marshall has changed over the years. I love my alma mater and I would show up to see us play the Sisters of the Poor.

That being said, I do have expectations and expect to see a "good product" being put on the field or court that is entertaining and a consistent winner. With a family of four, I have expectations that the money I pay for something will provide my family and I with entertainment. While I love Marshall, I also have to make smart decisions with my money. I can't simply throw money away like I used to, especially if the product that I'm purchasing doesn't provide enjoyment. I don't expect perfection, but I expect good results.

That being said, I'm pretty pleased with the last couple of seasons in both major sports.

Must you hijack EVERY thread into a Doc vs. Danny theme?

Anyway, what is this thread about? Same anti-Doc and anti-Mike spew as always. This one down on the schedule, because, like every (isn't it great to not have the mental defective knitpicking and thus can use words like "every" without worry of a six paragraph post on how Louisiana-Monroe is the one and only exception, as if any thinking person cares what the mental defective thinks about anything) other team plays a cupcake, and we "only" play the USA Today #3, #6, and #7 G5 schools in a row and no P5. Nothing will ever be good enough for the anti-Doc crowd.

Meanwhile, first there will never be such a thread about basketball. All rainbows and puppy dogs. And, of course, you will be there to inform us all that no discussion of the regular season is needed anyway, because of, well, you know.

You act like I am the one applying the double standard, when in fact the opposite is true.

As to being an "impartial observer" vs. a "fan", one can be both. As a football fan I hope we win every game. As a person with football knowledge I see a very tough schedule and probably an 8-4 type year. As a basketball fan I also hope we win every game. As a person with basketball knowledge, I will have a better opinion come November, but I have no reason to believe .500 is not about where we will end up.

There is no reason to not rack up 10 wins this year. The schedule is Taylor made to win a lot.

In order to do that it will likely require an undefeated conference record. The non conference schedule is leaps and bounds better than the conference teams this year. Undefeated in any conference is a tall task.

I would not be surprised that we go 8-0 in CUSA. But I see no better than 2-2 in OOC.
Our conference has never been weaker. It is a far cry from the CUSA we entered in 2005, let alone what it was before we entered.

Man, that’s an interesting way to pay the bills.

2019, at Arizona St, at Auburn, at Wisconsin.
2020, at Arkansas, at Kentucky, at Alabama.
2021, at Texas A&M, at Iowa, at Maryland
In other words, Kent State is an affiliate member of the SEC in 2020.
