Is it OK now to tell Chuckie . . .

While I don't agree with what Chuck wrote necessarily, I believe Johnson has some type of back injury.

That may be true, but clearly not one as severe as Landon stated.

The fact is, he ran with info from a "source" without attempting to follow-up and determine the truthfulness of that info. Moreover, he did it with an eye towards making the staff look bad for playing Johnson in the previous game. Not only is that bullsh*t and shoddy journalism, it's petty and, imho, an act that warrants getting canned. If you've lost credibility as a journalist, you've lost everything.

He's not a journalist. He's a local TMZ.

Again Landon did inaccurate reporting--as I stated approximately 2 weeks ago he should be fired for several reasons. He is a poor reflection on the HD and it certainly needs all the help it can garner.

IMO, Anyone who puts any kind of "faith" in media, expecting truth or accuracy, failing to see what media coverage actually is (completely contrived bullshit, meant to keep the plebeians with pitchforks ranting) needs to wake up from their zombie existence.

The only way to punish Chuck is to cancel the paper and tell the management exactly why you are doing so.

You can get better MU coverage from the anti-Marshall metronews site, if you can ignore the ignorant comments made on every article by the blue and chicken yellow's non-alumni.

He is a beat writer...his job is to stir the pot and write opinions / commentary. He said the right things with disclaimer info when saying IF true. I dont like him much either but the man has balls to call folks out sometime and sometimes it is needed. Would you folks like it if someone tried to get you guys fired from your jobs?

Isn't a beat writer a reporter? If so, he is not. He is an opinion writer, he writes a column containing his opinion for the most part.

I wouldn't be surprised one bit if Landon was the HDs most valuable writer.

People read his stories like crazy.

Opinions/commentary doesn't include making sh*t up. tacking on a disclaimer doesn't make it any better.

He's like the Rush Limbaugh or Colin Cowherd of the HD. He says completely ridiculous things because it makes money. Some people like Limbaugh and some like Cowherd but a large segment of their listeners hate what they say so much they tune in just to disagree. Same with Landon, enough people hate him enough you have to read the paper to see what absurd thing he said this time. I would rather not center my coverage of the Herd around that if I were the HD but that's their strategy, this much is obvious.

The good news for us is that almost inevitably the house of cards eventually falls. Whoever it is says the wrong thing and makes enough people mad that they get canned or asked to move on. Especially at a small paper like the HD.

Hey, you can add the warthog faced lefty from HBO, Bill Maher, to this list!!

Landon is an opinion columnist. Grant Traylor is the beat writer aka reporter. There is a huge difference.

Chuck did a poor job of choosing his words and I don't think there is any love lost between him and the athletic dpt. but there were several folks quietly behind the scenes saying 3-4 days before his article that DJ had a back injury. Like most things, there is likely a middle ground here which is why for me personally, I see it both ways.

Chuck is the most widely read writer at the HD beside maybe Dave Lavender... maybe.

Dave Lavender is the man! Love that guy.

Chuckie has become the Tri-State's Howard Stern or Rush Limbaugh. People who like him read his articles to see what he says next, and people who HATE his articles read to see what he says next. I personally think he's a moron, but he's not leaving the HD anytime soon.

There's stirring the pot & then there's a child with a Speak & Say throwing an ink tantrum. The people reading Landon do so expecting some sort of a fight. Unfortunately, that's the business model the Herald-Dispatch has chosen to support. The only thing consistent about Landon is how wildly inaccurate he is. Marshall is in a no-win situation regardless of how they treat him & frankly, do you blame them for keeping him at arm's length?

If people are really bothered by what he says, don't bother writing the paper - in fact, don't even bother keeping them in the loop. It's the advertisers that you contact to ask if they support the things he's saying.

Hypothetical: If the HD fired Landon, who could they find to replace him?

Herdalicious, maybe they could get Dave Hickman, who was the Gazette's WVU beat writer before he was let go in the "reorganization" with the Daily Mail. Hickman formerly worked at the Beckley paper way back and I believe he covered the Herd when he was there.
