...not good. Should have listened to Herdman. So I have a 6:30 flight this morning out of Columbus for Puerto Rico for my cruise. The cheapest tickets were all in the $1000 range, so double that with my wife. Except for Spirit Airline. Tickets with baggage checked plus assigned seat for just over $500. That’s a $1000 saving. Book ‘em Dano.

So I show up at the airport at 5:00 this morning for my 6:30 flight. Early, but better safe than sorry. I proceed to the self check in to print my boarding passes and luggage tags and the 50 lb weight limit most airlines run isn’t the standard for Spirit. Nope...there limit is 40 lbs. We’re over on both bags AND they don’t show record of me pre paying for our checked items.

So I ask attendant and he puts us in line for assisted check in. There’s about 15 people in front of me and only two people checking. Then one of them leaves to call security because a man is throwing a fit over something I’m not sure about. An hour later we get to the counter and a very rude person tells us we are close. He waives the baggage check fee (that I already paid for) and charged us $60 per suitcase for being over 40 lbs. So $120.

We have 15 minutes and I get to go through the TSA Precheck line so no problem. Wrong. Random security check. So after I get through that we sprint to the plane and board just in time. Except for the prepaid seating. We didn’t have assigned seats. So we had to sit on different parts of the plane for the first leg to Orlando. (Worked out Orlando to PR and my return)

So anyway, things finally settled down. I arrived safely in San Juan. Great right? Nope. Lost luggage.

So I filled out the reports and made my way to my hotel in old San Juan. I’m sitting in a restaurant eating tacos. I broke my two month self imposed hiatus on alcohol. I just finished my second margarita. Hopefully I get my baggage before I board tomorrow afternoon.

Herdman is right and life is good. And 429...55 Strong.

Your kids probably think you are a substitute when you actually work

So I show up at the airport at 5:00 this morning for my 6:30 flight. Early, but better safe than sorry.
.

This is already starting badly for you. Spirit, like every single other domestic airline, recommends arriving to the airport at least two hours before the scheduled departure. It says this when you book your ticket, when you get the confirmation, probably when you get their online check-in email 24 hours prior to departure, and on their website:

https://customersupport.spirit.com/...-need-to-arrive-at-the-airport-for-my-flight-

the 50 lb weight limit most airlines run isn’t the standard for Spirit. Nope...there limit is 40 lbs.
.

*Their

You didn't check to see what their baggage size and weight requirements were? All airlines have different size/weight requirements. Hell, after you chose your flights and before you booked, the Spirit website doesn't let you proceed without showing you that their limit is 40 lbs. I can only imagine that it also would be shown either in the confirmation email or when you try to check in online before the flight. Regardless, here is what they show before you even book the flight:

2lMzXI8.jpg

AND they don’t show record of me pre paying for our checked items.

Based on the other user errors in this post, I am guessing it wasn't the airline's fault. Did you not look at the confirmation email after booking the flight? Did you not check the check-in email they send 24 hours before departure? Hell, if you truly did pay for the checked items, you could simply pull up your credit card activity on your phone.

There’s about 15 people in front of me and only two people checking.
.

That's better than the ratio at even the top U.S. airlines. If each person takes 2-3 minutes to process, you're looking at a 15-25 minute wait to check the bag at most. Again, that's standard, especially for people not abiding by the airline's recommended arrival time.

Then one of them leaves to call security because a man is throwing a fit over something I’m not sure about.
.

I'm guessing it was another unreasonable patron who blamed the airline for all of his errors.

An hour later we get to the counter and a very rude person tells us we are close.
.

I'm guessing these employees are sick of hearing customers complain about their own mistakes.

.

He waives the baggage check fee (that I already paid for)
.

He's rude yet he does you a favor and waives the fee? Was he supposed to have given you a foot massage also?

and charged us $60 per suitcase for being over 40 lbs. So $120.
.

You were charged $60/bag due to not following their published and very open rules for bag weight. You chose Spirit so you could save $1000 in fare. Part of the reason you could save $1000 is because Spirit is frugal. The more a plane weighs, the more fuel is used. Using less fuel means they can spend less money than airlines which allow bags up to 50 lbs. That savings is passed on to you, allowing you to save $1000. Simply reading the information they put in front of your face solves this issue.

Just as big of an issue is that you and your wife are packing over 50 lbs. each on a cruise. I can understand if you're doing an Alaskan cruise where you need heavy jackets, boots, sweaters, etc., but aren't you going to the Caribbean? Are you staying a week or for three months? You can pack a week's worth of shorts/pants/shirts/sleepwear/gym wear/bathing suits/two pairs of shoes/two pairs of sneakers/toiletries/a couple of sweatshirts for cool evenings/etc. for less than 50 lbs.

Lost luggage.
.

Based on Spirit's published info, which I previously linked, they advise getting to the counter at least 45 minutes prior to departure to guarantee that your bag makes the plane. Every other domestic airline has the same policy: some even state 60 minutes. By your timetable, you were at the counter with less than 30 minutes to go before your flight.

So you show up more than 30 minutes late compared with what the airline suggests. You then screw up paying for the bags ahead of time. You claim an employee is rude even though he waives the fee you screwed up on. Due to showing up to the airport later than what the airline suggests, your bag doesn't reach the counter by the time the airline suggests to guarantee it makes the flight.

And it's the airline's fault?

I hope you don't screw up the alarm clock on your cruise and miss breakfast. I'd hate to be a cruise employee and face the wrath for your mistake.

Good thing moderators can edit posts without it showing it was edited so that "plain" was not evident to the readers.

Hope you get your bag, enjoy your cruise, and hope my post forced you into some more margaritas.

Flying is a royal pain in the ass. It sucks. Period.

1)The Planes are flying germ tubes. They are dirty, nasty. and infested. They are worse thanthe remote control in a Motel Six.

2)Spirit is a low cost carrier which makes it even worse.

3)Customer service for most airlines is pure shit. More rude than DMV workers.

4)GK did most everything right. But, it is just the process that are the airlines. Flying sucks and everything involved around it sucks.

5)I have not been to Puerto Rico. I don't really care if I ever go to Puerto Rico. Basically a third world island with a beach. I hope we never give them statehood.

6)I am not going to brag about being right. But, traveling like that sucks. I am to the point, I don't care to do it. There are beaches everywhere. Water, the ocean, sand, dunes, sun. Beach. They might look different. At the end of the day, a beach. I sure as hell am not going to fly to go see a beach somewhere in a third world shit hole.

7)not sure what yagsi is defending? A shitty industry full of flying germ tubes and shitty customer service? I don't get it. If you like going to third world shit hole countries with a beach, ok that is your thing. But, who defends the airline industry? It sucks. I have never heard of anybody that likes it.

We are eagerly awaiting your rebuttal.

He gave it to you. "Good Lord".Only the Lord can understand where yagsi goes with his Gone With Wind length responses and arguments. It is very odd.

Let me dumb this down for you:

Pretend your customer discusses with you his interest in ordering products. He lets you know that he wants them by June 1st, but he isn't sure yet if they will need them. You tell them that if he wants to guarantee they will be received by June 1st, he needs to place an order by May 10th at the latest. He then places an order on May 20th, 10 days after you advised him would be the latest to guarantee the arrival by the date he needed. You alert him that the product may not get there by his desired date. He gets mad at you for that.

Then, when he receives the products, he gets mad at you because they weren't the size he wanted . . . even though you told him that before he even placed his order . . . yet he still got mad at you for it.

The airline advised passengers to get there at least two hours prior to departure. GK was at least 30 minutes late for that. The airline states that baggage cannot exceed 40 lbs. without an additional fee. GK got mad for not seeing that notice even though the airline makes it a point to show that before you can proceed with booking a flight. GK then got mad that his bags didn't arrive with his flight even though the airline states that passengers must check their bags at least 45 minutes prior to departure, which based on his timeline, wasn't met . . . and would have been had he shown up at least two hours before departure like the airline advised.

In all honesty, I can't understand what he is blaming the airline for. God damn, he ignored their recommendations, ignored their baggage policy which is put right in the traveler's face, and then gets mad at the airline for it?

And you're out of your mind about the airline industry. They are usually cheaper, far faster, far more convenient, etc. than driving your ass to your destination.

That is stupid. In your scenario we delivered the wrong product. Next.

They lost his luggage. Regardless, they lost his damn luggage. That is on them.

No, you didn't. I said that you told him the size in the order he was about to place wasn't the size that he actually wanted, yet he went ahead and ordered that size regardless of your warning. Then, he got mad at you when what you told him was the case came true.

No. The airline advises checking your luggage at least 45 minutes before departure to guarantee your bag makes the flight. By GK's timeline, he was at the counter within 30 minutes of departure. That was the result of arriving at the airport at least 30 minutes later than what the airline advises. Their website clearly states that, as do all airline websites (some advise 60 minutes for domestic flights and 90 minutes for international).

Just going to throw this out there. If this is your real, non-internet personality, no one likes you. Not the girls you brag about, the pseudo-celebrities you claim to hang out with, or your mother. No one. I'm being dead serious.

4)GK did most everything right. But, it is just the process that are the airlines. Flying sucks and everything involved around it sucks.

You can't be serious. You guys sound like the 19 year old girl who refuses to take responsibility for any of her actions.

Spirit says to arrive at least two hours prior to the flight. GK arrived at least 30 minutes late.

Spirit says to check your luggage at least 45 minutes prior to your flight. GK checked his within 30 minutes of departure, which is the result of arriving at least 30 minutes later to the airport than the airline advises.

Spirit sends out booking confirmations which will show if you paid ahead for luggage. It appears that GK didn't look at that confirmation to make sure he did that.

Spirit sends out a check-in email about 24 hours before the flight which will also tell you if you have paid for luggage. It appears that GK didn't check that.

Spirit's website states that their standard checked bag fee allows up to 40 lbs. GK packed his bags with 50 lbs. even though you can't book with Spirit without seeing that message pop up in your face.

GK, who appears to value time due to his use of Pre-Check and his belief that arriving to the airport 90 minutes before departure is "early," then opts to print out boarding passes instead of simply using his phone. That's a rookie mistake.

GK then sprinted in the airport. Under no circumstance do you allow yourself to be that guy who is running through the airport. Going to miss your wedding? There are more girls out there. Going to miss your mother's funeral? She won't know regardless. Just don't ever be that guy running through the airport.

GK then opts to stay in Old San Juan when every gringo knows the strip clubs are on the other side of town.

Finally, GK chooses to drink margaritas when the largest distillery in the world (Bacardi) is right down the street allowing him the Puerto Rican rum experience.

GK did just about everything right? I can't find a single thing he did right. Let's hope he doesn't get too close to the railing when a big wave hits.

Good Lord. Maybe you should work for an airline and work in customer service.

I wish you deplorables would stop contradicting yourselves with these comments. Recently, numerous deplorables have called out a half-dozen people on here in a claim that they somehow voted me Homecoming King, Prom King, and student body president due to my popularity among them. Yet now you're claiming that not a single person likes me.

Am I a likeable asshole or a despised good guy? Don't confuse yourself on that one, Tier Three.

the pseudo-celebrities you claim to hang out with

This one always gives me a laugh. Recently, the West Virginian lender and "I don't work on computers, I work in higher ed" have both claimed I hang out with pseudo-celebrities. Over the last month, I have hung out with Flo Rida, Billie Eilish, Hozier, Willie and Lukas Nelson, Kevin Costner, The Struts, CeeLo, Woody Harrelson, Matthew McConaughey, Danielle Bradbery, Farrah Abraham, Hozier, Teddy Riley/Blackstreet, DMX, Wyclef, Trae the Truth, Alec Benjamin, Tyler Childers, Leikeli47, Ludacris, and I am sure more I cannot quickly recall. Not all of them are A-listers, but all of them are noticed walking down the street in any decent sized American city. I am sure you could call one or two of them "pseudo-celebrities," but the overwhelming majority of them? Naw.

And at least DMX liked me, which refutes your claim, as he invited me out to hang out with him today after I was just with him a couple of weeks ago.

Good Lord. Maybe you should work for an airline and work in customer service.

Maybe you and Tier Three would like to elaborate on how my statements are wrong since you have both avoided doing so.

God damn, dude! You went way beyond full retard with that post. You exemplify the typical idiots of Appalachia. So uneducated and think they know everything, hating anything different and anything with any sort of sophistication.

“A beach is a beach.” Ok, take your ass out to the Beech Fork swimming area and enjoy your vacation. I won’t even address the rest of your nonsense bullshit.

To me a beach is a beach. At the ocean nitwit. Some are prettier and some have blue or clear water. But after 30 minutes who gives a flip? Not me.

I dont live in Appalachia anymore .

I go in vacations to be with the people I want to be with. Enjoy some good times. I can do that most anywhere.

Your reading comprehension is awful. Only a small part of Herdman's rant was about Puerto Rico. The rest was on other topics. CR's response centered around those other things, and he clearly said he wasn't going to respond to anything other than the "a beach is a beach" comment from Herdman.

Once again, cuntry rushes in to try and curry favor from Rifle. It's gone beyond "humorous" and veered into "pathetic" territory.

CR"s response was about sophistication. Was he referring to the sophistication of Spirit airlines or airlines travel? The sophistication of Puerto Rico? Because those were the things mentioned in my post.

He was mocking your lack of sophistication by saying all beaches are the same. He made that clear by stating exactly what he was responding to and saying he wasn't going to respond to any of the other bullshit in your post.

Still having trouble explaining how GK was in the right by not following any of the advice from the airline? Still having trouble explaining how every single person can hate me, but then turn around and claim people are beating off to the fact that I agree with them on things? You're so dumb that you can't even understand how quickly you contradict yourself.

to me all beaches are the same. Sand and salt water. I don't want to go to a third world shit hole and sit in a hotel with sand and salt water. I can do that many places that are far easier to get to.

I can guarantee an airplane has not been stuck up anyone's orifices. A Motel Sex TV remote? No such promises.
The plane is probably worse. I don't have to touch the remote. All those germs trapped in there. THey don't clean those things and all those people and the air is trapped.

Fair enough. I may have engaged in a little hyperbole. So there are 3-4 people that like you. Cuntry and Marine - who have man-crushes on you, and dtard and greed -because you agree with them politically. Congrats on having a fan club that consists of the worst posters on the site. Be sure and let Kathy Griffin know the next time you guys hang out. I'm sure she'll be impressed.

Just flew Spirit to Florida and back and literally no issues. The Chili’s in West Palm Airport sucks though, I don’t recommend it.
