You guys loved him when he ran as a Democrat.
Wv has had its share of characters. This is just the next chapter .
I didn’t like him when he was a coal owner and I didn’t like him as a Dem or a Republican. He’s a crook and his son is a crybaby bitch.
He was never a Democrat. He might have had a D after his name but he was never a Democrat.
Marland was only in his 30’s when elected in the 1950’s. He preceded Cecil Underwood who was even younger than Marland. I believe he died as a very young man.
When I was in the insurance business, the agency I managed was on 3rd floor above Jim's Spaghetti house. At the time, Cecil Underwood's election campaign office was on the same floor. I got to talk to him quite a bit in passing and he was absolutely one of the most most humble and kind people you could ever meet. I had some brass in from the regional office and I introduced him to my boss. My boss really thought it was some kind of joke when I confided that he was running for governor. (He was a bit of an ass.)
Anyway, I was at a meeting in Chicago a month later and he called me out and said..."Oh by the GK...how'd your buddy do in the election?" I said, "He's the governor of WV, why?" I don't know...not much really...but I kind of enjoyed saying that.

I was at a conference in Charleston years ago and was sitting through a seminar. I had an empty seat beside me and I was halfway listening and staring straight ahead. I hear someone say excuse me, can I sit next to you. I look up and it was Governor Underwood and his state trooper standing beside him. I asked if they needed me to get up so the trooper could stay beside him and he said no and the trooper sat behind us. During the break he spoke and asked where I was from and he loved it when he found out I went to Marshall. He was speaking there. He was genuinely nice man and very down to earth. Kind of rattled me when I look up and it is the governor. But, he was just as sincere as could be.

Met Ken Heckler in 8th grade when I won the Golden Horseshoe award. He was kind, humble and recognized me at a Marshall game several years later.

Sisters, Blankenship was convicted of a misdemeanor. Therefore, he is not a felon. If he were, he couldn't run.
Except for him rescuing the Greenbrier, I have never been a fan.
Ken Hechler was a model of what politicians should be.
I thought the Golden Horseshoe was such a great idea I was actually pissed off that as a 10th grader when we moved here I could not get it.
