I don’t ever want to root against the herd… so here’s to a win tonight. There were glimmers of hope last night in our players at certain times. Moments of chemistry they haven’t shown earlier in the season, solid shooting, rebounding… but it wasn’t consistent. For that reason alone, we will probably not make it tonight. However… there’s a chance we turn it on.

Our players have potential, just not in DD system….they need a coach.

The dumpster fire is out. Let’s go Herd baseball and softball. We all now DD will be back next year so more of the same.

Time to let DD go and move on into a new beginning.
I think one of our largest issues when making a coaching change is we wait entirely too long before making a move.

We need to cut ties and go after a coach from another school when their season is over too. We need early dibs on a coach who will jump on the freakin portal.

Move him into a role within the AD and hire Greg Marshall pronto. Win for all.
If they were to fire Danny, hiring Greg Marshall would be a great hire. I will be shocked if Danny is fired this season. I would guess he will be allowed to coach here one more season.

Agree. His farewell tour.

Technically we wouldn't be firing Dan. His contract expires. We hired him for those years and those years only and he agreed to them. We have an opportunity for a clean break right now. Just take it. This dude seriously blamed COVID and the school President change as reasons for this season's record.

How is hiring Greg Marshall a win? Another former assistant here and most recently fired at Wichita State under allegations of physical and verbal abuse of players! I don’t think our new AD and President Smith will want that baggage.
He's a proven winner and good coach. He's been here before so he knows the area. Yeah, he has baggage but he wasn't sanctioned to my knowledge. We've given dozens of football players second chances over the years, I don't see a reason not to do the same with him. He would do well here - just my opinion. Auburn gave Bruce Pearl a second chance and it's worked out very well for them.

Greg would likely come cheaper than many big school assistants - if we went that route.

People trying to rebuild their careers go where there is a clear path to winning; I'm thinking it will be difficult to find a D1 winner to come here as they have so many other places to compare us to. People have spoke of John Brannen as well, the CAM, the pay, etc.; all below even his gig at NKU. We were lucky to get a basketball mind with the experience DD had to begin with,; no one realized he didn't know anything much about recruiting or the competitive condition of NCAA basketball, nor the courage to alter his coaching team as needed.

People trying to rebuild their careers go where there is a clear path to winning;
MU is now a member of a league that averages a 15 seed. Even lower commitment to basketball than CUSA had. And MU has a high commitment to basketball, good fans, and is in need of NOTHING. It should be easy to win here.
We were lucky to get a basketball mind with the experience DD had to begin with,
He is a retired high school gym teacher and coach. And then he carried a clipboard for his brother, a failed journeyman NBA coach. What “experience”? What “basketball mind”? He is a high school gym teacher.

Lucky?

The MU basketball job would be very inviting to any top level assistant or to someone trying to rebuild a career after being a HC at a higher level.

DD in the AD would be the dumbest move ever.
Why? It would get him off the sidelines, which is the goal. Hell, he couldn't do any worse. Tell me someone within the Schewey or BG that just lights it up, that just goes above and beyond, - where they are invaluable. You can't.

If those people were already in place, we'd be in better shape financially, more donors, more BG members, etc.

"Hell, he couldn't do any worse" considering his inability to lead a floor of 5 youths, what makes you think he can lead 1,000 stubborn old people to give money to MU? As far as I know, wasn't it really Mike D'Antoni who was the one to be the voice for MU, he and Chad Pennington?

Speaking of, Chad lights up my interest immediately. Brad Smith does too...and both are in the AD or involved to an extent. So yes, MU has people in position currently and people (at least here) are not complaining about either one.

Dan would merely be a larger conflict of interest and with a relative already there, it isn't necessary at all.

I agree that we have people now in place to make a difference. Brad, Chad, Bill Noe, and hopefully Spears - can all lead us into greener pastures and a brighter future. I like where we are headed.

BTW, If anyone has a chance to pick up a copy of the latest Marshall Magazine with Brad on the cover, do it. Some great articles about what is going on. Very exciting.
