This is the stuff that kills me and shows a severe lack of healthy culture in a program.

A Marshall fan, as he has done for several years, hosts the basketball team at his house for dinner. Creighton Thieneman, a kid who has been in the program for four years, shows up in a Kentucky Wildcats shirt. Are you fvcking kidding me, Creighton?

I could somewhat overlook it if it were a freshman and hope that the older guys on the team and the coaches make sure it doesn't happen again. But this is the kid's fourth year in the program. That shows a severe lack of competitive culture and discipline in the program.

How have the older guys (which he is one of) not straightened this out? How have the coaches allowed it? I know you're new, Corny, but get your shit together . . . fast. Can you imagine a Kentucky player going to a team function and rocking a UConn shirt?

You could look at this in a different light. Considering how badly our basketball team has played recently, the kid in the Kentucky shirt could be the only person on the team showing a symbol of a winning basketball culture.

Maybe he meant they look like a rec team at the Y more than a D1 basketball team. That’s not an athletic looking bunch, looks more like the chess club.

Years ago when I was a kid, I attended the Rick Huckabay basketball camp at Marshall. The fist day there they called everyone into the main arena in the Henderson Center. Keep in mind we all paid money to attend and were kids at the time. Coach Huckaby started speaking and he said who has a t-shirt on with another college on it? It didn't matter if it was UCLA, UNC, Kentucky, West Texas Community College. He said go back to your rooms and take them off. No other college shirts are worn at a Marshall camp. He meant it too.

I get where rifle is coming from on this one.

I agree with your post re: them looking, and being, unathletic, but that's definitely not what Michigan meant. 🤣

Can you say, “complete over reaction”? College kid probably threw on whatever was clean. Find something else to bitch about cause this is a non-issue.

Nah. You can get away with this if you play for an NAIA or D3 school, but D1 athletes shouldn't be wearing other D1 schools' attire, especially in a team setting. This is about as lame as it gets. Screams small-time and offers good insight into the basketball program's current mentality. Hell, we've played them and got our teeth kicked in during the timeframe that this kid has been with the program. Rifle's right. Coaches or team captains should have straightened his ass out.

Pretty sure members of the athletic programs get a full array of Marshall gear. Tshirts, hoodies, pullovers…etc. It’s not like his one Marshall shirt was dirty. It’s just weird to see at a team get together.

Years ago, when West Virginia played in the Big East, I bought some cheap sweat shirts that had the names printed on them of every league team. Whenever WVU lost a football game, I would show up for work wearing the shirt of the team who beat them. Drove my WVU friends crazy.
