Discount it? I am concerned about the ones we can't see out in the middle of the desert. I am for killing them all....but don't think this last group in the article is "all". I have been impressed with the ISIS digital outreach, AQ never had anything like that. And Europe truly is clueless how many people went to Syria and came back. The leader is a ghost, no one ever sees the dude, he is rarely heard from ...leadership doesn't seem to matter at all. Last, the on the ground ISIS is very different from the theoretical ISIS...on the ground it's damn near a pirate operation, plunder and collect protection money.

Not really lol. I became really interested in ISIS when their internet presence and propaganda went professional and shit. I thought it was just another AQ until then...and really it was, it was born from AQI. There are two ISIS's, a physical, geographic caliphate, and a digital caliphate. This makes for a decentralized, idea based organization, not one led by a charismatic.

There's actually a book on this called The Digital Caliphate. It is a good read.
