Run on first, run in second, pass on third and long and they bring the house (shockingly).

After we get down 28 PTs, we start throwing on first down. Even if we didn't complete it, we'd pop a 7-8 yd run on second down .

What a joke we'd call plays like this with NOTHING to lose.

Call me a realist, but...... You got a QB who is a true freshman (that we have no idea how much of the playbook he knows) and couldn't move the ball against Morgan St., WR's that have shown they can't get separation and a shaky O line. Not sure any amount of X and O scheming is going to overcome that.

He lead us on a touchdown drive in that game and passing the ball in the weather he played in was near impossible.

Not sure what game you watched, but Morrell was 1/6 for 4yds vs. Morgan St.

Morrell is not D1 material. I know he is in a tough spot but don't see it in him.

Legg sucks!!!!

Agree on both counts, but all I'm saying is given the situation no OC could move the ball with what's on the field right now.

They could try. Everybody in the stands knew handing the ball off every first and second down wasn't getting it done .

No way am I ready to write Morrell off. This was a really tough situation to come into for his first start, #3 team in the country, sold out crowd,. I believe he'll be a very good QB for a year for us after litton leaves.

So we throw and go three and out in 30 seconds instead of 2 minutes? If you haven't noticed Morrell can't throw. I guess we could run the Statue of Liberty, triple reverses and flea flickers............ Not trying to make excuses for Legg, but you're kidding yourself if you think some other coach could jumpstart this offense.

Not trying to hate on Morrell either, but at this point in his career he does not belong on the field.

I couldn't be more disgusted with every aspect of our offense with the exception how hard our RBs are running. I am talking about the last 2 weeks.

Xavier gaines should have got a look. Not because i think morrell can't be a good qb but bc bill legg will not open the playbook. If our qb isn't going to be allowed to pass then why not put him in bc he can actually run.if they play gaines at all this year i would be very disappointed that we didn't give him a chance tonight. We had nothing to lose tonight and coaches were playing not to lose like we were the better team. Cant upset anyone when ya play it safe like we always do.

I hope Litton is cleared to practice and play next week. We have zero offense without him.

I am curious about Gaines. After seeing Morrell, I can't imagine Gaines being worse. He had some top notch offers like Alabama and Clemson to name a few. I know coaches like to redshirt guys but a kid who spurns the big dogs to play in C-USA usually play right away. Am I right to think maybe he was recruited by the top dogs as a athlete but he wanted to play QB and Marshall agreed?

Makes sense to think that way but to be recruited at any position by bama clemson fsu florida pretty much all the big programs then come here and sit... doubt he sticks around without playing time. Hope i am wrong but kids with that kind of talent usually dont like being on the sidelines that long

You're right. It makes sense why he would redshirt at Alabama or Clemson. I know Teddy Bridgewater was close to going to LSU but they wanted him to redshirt but he had none of that and went to a Big East team and after one game was the starter. You guys ruined that first start.

But Doc is a "masterful recruiter."

Louisville has 143 yards of penalties against them. Our aggressive playcalling has netted us a whopping 167 yards.

I have to say these refs don't have a clue what's a late hit or targeting. They even went to replay and it wasn't even originally called targeting. There were at least four late hit calls that were BS as the runner was still in-bounds. That targeting call on you guys on the punt was totally BS, but they're trying to save people.

Leggs offense reminds me of exactly why we stay exactly where we are. No imagination. Not saying a true FR can do a lot but for goodness sake let the guy play a little. So predictable I about vomited. It was so frustrating to watch our offense shit the bed knowing we had a shot to keep it close early. Just sucks

Gaines is very raw and was clearly behind Morrell.

Couldn't be any worse though. Morrell is nit any good. You can see how he throws. His accuracy is bad.

It's not Morrells fault. The kid is just a freshman that's only been here for two months. You have to look at the OL not giving him time nor opening holes for the run. But the big issue is Legg. He is to predictable!

Doc has the same thing Stewart at WVU had = Too much loyalty to his assistants. Smart move would be to fire Legg at the end of the year or demote him to strictly QB coach (where he can maybe teach a whole damn playbook to his QBs)

Two months or not, that is plenty of time to learn the majority of the playbook, (considering Legg only runs around a dozen of plays or so) if we are to believe the statement that Legg couldn't open up the playbook because the kid doesn't know it.

How can you not recruit at least one JUCO QB, for depth and insurance, to back up Litton this season? I've asked that question before and received no answer.

Hell, Baylor ran a better offense when they were missing their top 3 QBs due to injury and were forced to play a WR at QB two years ago against UT and still almost won. Yet, Marshall somehow can't recruit a QB that is better than Baylors 4-5th string QB which is a WR...

I don't want Legg as a QB Coach. I just want him gone.

I know I'll get blasted for this, but...

Doc can recruit QB's. Geno, Tebow, Cato (lol, those all rhyme) and Litton so far has been pretty good. I thought Morrell looked terrible against Morgan State, and probably till midway thru 3rd qtr last night, but then I saw him starting to get comfortable and the speed of the game slowed down some. We started at least moving the ball and he was getting some decent passes out.

If we had someone other than Legg for OC and to develop a QB (they're on their own really) I think there's more to Morrell than what people think.

The difference between our QB's Doc has recruited vs Tebow and Geno is those guys had better coaches to develop and create offensive schemes to match their talent.

If the issue is a concussion ( and who knows as its top secret information) , I would not count on seeing him practice or play at Pitt.

Legg is the problem. I thought Morrell got much better as the game went on. Heck, handing it off up the middle all the time doesn't do anything to boost your confidence. Legg showed no confidence in anybody. Some people said that if we hadn't just handed it off so much they would have put up 80. So! What the hell difference does it make. We don't play for moral victories. We should play to win and if we are going to go down we should go down swinging.

Gaines has more ability than Morrell. Throw him out there and open up the offense, you may be surprised.
It can't get any worse!!!!

Guys we've been complaining on here about Legg for the last three years. He's Docs buddy and not going anywhere. Besides IF we finish 6-6 or better and get a bowl and win then all is forgiven again until next season and then we can get back to complaining about Legg once again.

Exactly, bbneutralfan. Doc, Legg and Hammy are part of a Kanawha-Putnam clique going back to the 70s. Old KVC boys taking care of their Homies!! Short of a couple back to back 3-9 and 2-10 records and a serious fan revolt, Legg and Doc ain't going nowhere as long as Hamrick is making the call!!

Why burn a redshirt on a kid to maybe play 2 games. Now, if it is determined that Litton would be out for the year, that's different. Sure you don't burn it on games that have no impact on us winning our conference.

This isn't Madden guys, You don't put in an 18 year old and he has full range of the entire playbook. Not only that, when you are playing Louisville you have to be conservative, and try to keep our defense off the field.

The spread offense has it's complexities and a lot of them center around wide receiver options. The wide receiver many times has the option to go on a deep route or break the route off, he has to make the read, the quarterback has to know what read he is going to make. Morrell, being a true freshman who didn't take a lot of snaps in the spring and probably has the ceiling of back up, isn't going to be able to sling it all over Louisville.

You do not want Gaines to burn a red shirt by playing in one game, but it would have been nice to see if his ability to run the ball would have changed things up a little. If we knew Litton was going to be out for an extended period of time, then maybe you give him a shot.

The TEs were supposed to be the strong suit on offense this year - what is going on there? Not using them in the best way IMHO.

Considering he played in a monsoon with WRs that couldn't get separation from Morgan St. DBs, he did what you would expect a T-FR to do in his 1st game after only being in the program for 1-2 months.
