Lmao at Huffs contract

Huff must have really hated it here.

After reading the Athletic article, it sounds like we parted ways mutually. Pretty interesting read.

The truth is he left/got booted from one school and ended up at another one just like it in the exact same kind of town.

The people there are like the people here and he will treat them the same way until he can get out.

Forgive me...

He's never hung around for very long anywhere. That is a personality disorder.

You may not want to know Coach Gibson said something like, "House #16 is my last house" or something like that.

Oh, and it's not a personality disorder...by any means.

CH spent four years looking for the next step up. Never an interview. Finally took a side step, which is really a step down in terms of resources considering the huge shadow of the SEC he now play under. No one really cares about USM in Mississippi.

He is gone. We improved to a quality human being with character and dignity, something the cabal who hired CH forgot was important.

At least MH tried to warn us.

You're really reaching...
How is air a reach. You were insinuating that he's been all over the place and never stayed anywhere long term. He's moved 16 times that doesn't mean he's been to that many schools. In fact in 30 years of coaching he's been to 10 different schools. In huffs 20 years he's been at 11 schools.

It might be less than what Gibson is getting, but Huff's still getting about a $200K raise from what he made at Marshall.
True but he missed out on even more when you consider the opportunity cost. The reason most are laughing, though, is because we heard all week from USM fans that his base salary was 1.3 to 1.5M

Not sure if it applies, but many schools supplement the HC's "government" salary with one from the boosters or a media deal for his talk shows. Huff may get more than the contract, but I am not sure if that wasn't true here for him, or for Coach Gibson coming in?

Not sure if true, but some are reporting that we structured the offer so that Huff had to refuse it, so that he would leave. That's our right to do that.
To me it doesn't matter, if the President and AD don't want you there, and you don't want to be there, then it is a win-win for all. We get a coach we want, the new guy wants to be here, and Huff gets a raise to go somewhere else. The only people hurt are players that stayed, and fans expecting to see us in a bowl game. Our administration is playing the long game. That's not a right or wrong move because no one can predict the long term returns. I would be curious to see if they see this transition as a high risk, high return move or just where they are on both sides of the equation. Huff actually played a low risk, high return game. He gets a decent contract for a number of years, and if successful in turning a program around, can stay there or move up. If he doesn't he gets to bank a lot of dollars and go be an assistant somewhere else.
I have friends and acquaintances that are life-long assistant coaches at power schools. Thay have championship rings. They never wanted to be head coaches because of the pressure and the inability to actually coach players, versus lead a team.

No doubt.
But the hangup wasn't really the 50k difference. From Huff's POV, it was the terms of the buy-out.
From Smith's and Spears' POV, it was Huff's actions.
Does Huff's new contract with USM include the same no buyout clause that he apparently demanded with us?

I would think smaller schools simply can't afford to agree to such demands.
