I know it because a quirk of scheduling... but since WVU-Marshall game is the last game of the first weekend of the tournament, that means by about halftime - WVU and Marshall with both be one of only 17 teams remaining in the NCAA tournament. Weird to think about.

I get it. I've been a WVU fan since youth, started going to basketball games in 1988. I endured many painful years of irrelevance and leather sport coats during the Catlett years. During the few NCAA appearances we made in those years, I would pray for a day 2 game, so that I could enjoy watching the other games while WVU was still in the hunt.
I still watch much less basketball after WVU has been eliminated... but it helps knowing that I won't have to wait so long to see them in the tournament again.
It's exciting to see Marshall basketball taking off, I know what that feels like having experienced it as a WVU fan.
