Why are you surprised he wasn't hired as a DC? He was co DC for one year at tOSU, it was their worst defense in recent history. He was DC for Holtz at USF, they didn't perform and he was gone when Holtz was fired (and if you notice, Holtz currently needs a DC and he didn't come back for Snyder) and he was DC at A&M and got fired because his defense was horrible.
Like he was working for peanuts at an SEC school.
Damn guy parlayed the total destruction of our program into $$$ big time..
I'm chalking that up to Snyder knowing he was a candidate for this job, moreso than an aversion on Holtz's part to hiring Snyder.
Hard to believe a little over five years ago, these guys were playing for the C-USA East division championship, and now one's going to be a special teams coordinator and the other one is a head coach at the lowest rung of the FBS ladder.
He's a linebackers coach not a DC. He is back to what he was before he came to Marshall. A positions coach. Perfect for him.
He had the WORST rated defense in the SEC last year. Dead last out of 12 teams.
His comments one time that he "left his secure retirement at Ohio State" to come to Marshall really turned me off to him.
The final straw was I arranged a city wide alumni event and Snyder came in for it. He was very upset that he came all that way upon learning one of Marshalls largest donors was absent. We then took him to dinner. He had 3 DOUBLE grey goose vodka tonics in 20 MINUTES! It was 60.00 in 20 minutes!
I really don't know what kind of salary a B10 linebackers coach makes, but one thing for sure Snyder has parlayed his MU head coach time info a pretty payout. I wish no person ill will (except Ollie schmuck) but honestly Snyder was a bad hire and he and Kayo darn near single handedly destroyed Marshall athletics.
Still I wish him and his family well. He simply wasnt a head coach.

Was introduced to Snyder by Tish Littlehales when she headed up the Alumni Assoc. along with Donnie Jones. NEVER did Snyder make eye-to-eye contact with me. **Never trusted anyone that will not look you in the eye! On the other hand, Donnie Jones was a CLASS ACT to me. Donnie asked me lots of questions and closed by saying..."If I can help you, please contact me."
For all Snyder knew....I could have been a large donor looking to donate some $$$$$. But the topper was.......Homecoming kick-off was scheduled for 4:30 PM the same day (Saturday) of the Memorial Fountain Celebration honoring The 75....at Noon. The jerk [Snyder] was not present! I will never forget this or forgive him. Doc was very impressive this year & he got very emotional. I can only imagine next Oct. when President Kopp is not on the stage. It will be a very emotional time for Marshall's supporters.....Doc, Mike, Dan and all.
I will add...I felt badly for Snyder's wife and children for the crap they had subjected upon them because their husband & dad was not head coach material & during the years he headed our football program---he set us back 5 years!
I wish him good luck (only) because his family needs financial support!

If you knew his daughter and how spoiled she is, then a paycut would actually be beneficial in the long run.
When Mark, in effect, ended Kerry Parks career by taking out his knee in a NON CONTACT drill I lost my respect for him. There were maybe 10 of us at practice that day and sure looked like a stupid and needless move, he didn't lose balance he went right after him. George Chaump was beyond upset as Parks was on his way to a very good career. He performed ok after the recovery but was never the same runner.

I loathed MS from the first day I met him which was the spring game in 05. Former player or not he's a dick, and was a terrible head coach here. I hope he never returns in any capacity whatsoever.

One time at QB Club when Snyder was HC here I asked him why our DBs never turned around and looked for the ball. In the previous game we had been beaten for a TD in the back of the end zone on a play where the DB could have easily picked it off if he'd had a clue where the ball was, but he wasn't looking.
So I tried to butter Snyder up a little, adding that you (meaning Snyder) didn't pick off 10 passes in one season not knowing where the ball was.
His answer was basically to the effect that they coached them to look at the receiver so they didn't turn around, lose the receiver, and get beat deep. So in regards to this particular play in question, I immediately followed up with, "Coach, the receiver was already in the back of the end zone, how much farther was he going to go?"
Snyder had no response, he just shrugged.
He wasn't a jerk or anything, just seemed kind of clueless about it.
