The vitriol you point out didn't reach it's peak until the last season, as once again, the team descended into disappointed outcomes. And it was justified for those specific reasons I explained.
It went nuclear far earlier than that. It happened in 2016 and you're a fool to think otherwise.
The problem is fans expected the team to win 10 games after that, as though rebuilding for a team like MU shouldn't exist.
Nope. Not when it comes to this discussion. You haven't made a point yet that is really relevant to the reason this back and forth started. In fact, you keep coming back and agreeing with me on multiple points.
I have actually agreed with you on a few points. But take what you can get I guess so...congrats?
Why would an inviting conference mention titles when MU hadn't been in contention for one in 8 seasons, and hadn't consistently been in contention for conference titles since the MAC? (I'm laughing again) Of course that's not going to be a reason.
Exactly. They wouldn't. They never felt those were important enough to consider.
But who did consider them important? The little people like yourself in the little bubble.
So the SBC gave credit to Marshall's "bubble". The same bubble you mysteriously continue to downplay throughout this thread. The "traditions" are the fans. Ultimately the fans build the programs and along with the teams, establish the traditions.
I downplay it because the bubble screams conference titles, while the SBC says, "Yeah, we are looking at everything else BUT that."
And I have created Pruett and others for getting MU into the national spotlight back in the 90's.
Considering this was a year and half post Doc, and multiple other conferences began to change and/or disintegrate during that time, there really is no way to know how conferences would end up. No one, not even the conference commissioners knew how things would shake out or where teams would be. It worked out for us because of our regional connection to the conference and our strong traditions (fans) overall. Doc was long gone and somehow attempting to connect him to the SBC alignment is some revisionist shit, that makes no real sense.
It was in October 2021 when MU accepted its invite to the SBC. Doc wasn't retained after the 2020 season.
1 year isn't "long gone" and Huff inherited basically his team.
Given all the proposals Hamrick had planned for MU as well as all the expansion in academic programs the president was doing, you really think MU wasn't anticipating a potential move?
AD's, in their own little world, all talk and gossip, and I am willing to bet the SBC was eyeing a few teams well prior to the 2021 invite date...why? They're actually one of the more proactive conferences and were praised at how quickly they acted.
You're right, it did work out for us for all the things you said, which didn't include conference championships.
I'm glad you're learning.
Speak for yourself. I'm here because I am fan of Marshall, and what I do or whatever I make in compensation, is also completely irrelevant to the discussion.
That's another point I agree with you on.
Wow, you've learned a little and have had points agreed upon by me and others!
Get you a tall glass of cold beer or a glass of bourbon, some action from the Mrs., and take the rest of the night off from here, you've earned it! 🙂
