Marshall playing Concord

The non-conference “home” schedule is pitiful. Away better. Can’t believe DD, Cline, and Hamrick do not carry any more clout than scheduling the bunch of small schools that they have. Really makes you want to buy season tickets and no offense to those of you who did.

Danny did NOT want this game. He tried to play games at Clemson, Ohio State or Indiana, since all had openings at the time. None would invite us to go there.
Next year should be much better with away games at Texas A&M, Maryland and Memphis.

You are CORRECT Herdmeister.

Not sure why the mentioned (3) schools did not wish to play The Herd. I am aware the (3) schools were playing in recent national tournaments. Perhaps, they felt it was too demanding to play us Sunday? Clemson travels to Ohio State for the ACC-Big 10 Challenge, Wednesday, Nov. 29...most likely, the Tigers wanted fresh legs to battle the Buckeyes. Ohio State & Indiana were involved in Holiday tournaments and probably needed a few days rest?

Danny is not stupid
. He is well aware he needs to play tough competition to get ready for CUSA play. Until Dan continues to build Marshall's program...we are not that attractive to "some" schools. This years team is young and most of the players are getting minutes for the first time at the college level. Elmore said it best after the Concord victory..."we are young and the new guys are gaining valuable experience no matter the opponent...they are learning our system and becoming better defensive players."

It's a process...and Dan is looking at games in February & early March. What you do in November is not as important as it is getting ready for the CUSA contests.

You are correct but if you are successful in January and February yet dont win your league, you cant have Concord and NC Central on your schedule and expect an NCAA or NIT invite. Sounds like next year he is trying to test his kids early so that they can perform late. Hopefully that is his plan......

The problem is all of those teams have been average the last few years. Indiana had one good year but that's it. Average teams don't want to play our RPI. They either want a guaranteed win, which we are not for them, or they want the possibility of a loss coming with a much greater RPI for the team they are playing. In other words they either want to play a Radford, or a UCF.

You seriously don't believe Marshall playing at Clemson, Ohio State, or Indiana wouldn't be a guaranteed win for the home team?

They are all afraid of playing us.

Afraid of playing us because a loss is devastating to their tournament resume. That's the problem. We live in a world that we are too good to be a guaranteed win and too shitty to be worth it for a team to host us.

I would think Morehead State is a guaranteed win for us. So you never know
I guess you missed the fact that Morehead has beaten the Herd four out of the last five times they've played. Not to mention, Morehead has had the better program for the last couple of decades.

Oh I am well aware of that. I am just frustrated by the state of the program. That being said, I would also give us a better chance at beating an Ohio State or Clemson than I would a Morehead State.

Let me rephrase that- I give us a better chance at beating an Ohio state than I would Morehead of beating Ohio State

Explain why you feel that way, knowing that Morehead has a more talented team.

I don't think they have more talent, I just think its contained better than ours. I still think we run a condensed street ball fast pace with no defense. The good part of that is we can beat anyone, the bad is we can (and do) lose to anyone.

zilla we all know about your family bias so your comments about Dan not wanting this game does not count very much. This clearly shows one of two things: 1) teams are afraid to come to Huntington fearing a possible loss or 2) neither your man Dan, Cline, or Hamrick simply have little to no respect when it comes to arranging our home non-conference schedule. An occasional cup-cake is ok but asking us to purchase season tickets with a home non-conference schedule we have well.

I NEVER said that Dan did not want to play Concord...HerdMeister did.
Dan (in my opinion) played Concord because Lewis (his Dad) was a star in football, basketball and baseball for the Mountain Lions. Had not Lewis passed recently he would have been thrilled to see his school play the HERD. Plus, I am pleased to see some WV small colleges/universities receive a good pay check from Marshall. (Point 2) I do not speak for any of the 3 guys mentioned. You need to ask them. They may be cup cakes in your mind...but not cupcakes for our freshman dominated "learning" players.

It doesn’t matter who you wanted to play, it’s who you end up playing. I am sure most men wanted to date a super model and make a million a year, but where does that get them?

At least we won. Still can’t figure out why we keep playing Morehead knowing we can’t beat them. Maybe because Duke said no.

I note that our Saturday home opponent...AKRON...plays at home on 12/29====CONCORD. Wonder how their fans will react?

or UTC playing tenn weslyan, cal playing chaminade (ok, cal fans are probably upset about that one), coasta carolina playing st andrews, austin peay playing bethel, winthrop playing mars hill, mizzou and emporia state........

So we got stuck with Dan simply because of his family, and now we get stuck with a certain schedule because of his family?

I hope we don't get stuck with Dan and his team being woman-beaters like his seventh cousin is.

You set such a good example for that JV baseball team you are the scorekeeper for at that Christian school.

Hey, can the JV players hear the sound of your fist on her face when they are inside the dugout or is your seat in the bleachers too far away?

YAGS...you continue to "sprew bullspit" at me on a public sports/opinion forum...that my son reads...that loves his Dad as well as his Mother...and the fact that his Mom & I share a house together and you continue to speak stupid statements [at every chance you get] are CONCERNING to our family.. I suggest you cease to post untruths about me! BTW,.. I am the NEW Director of Sports Information at the Christian School. I stepped down from my JV & Varsity coaching because of my ailing back....Nothing More ----Nothing Less.

Mr. Sweeney, by chance, are you friends with Nick Dangelo? I assume you are, since he is probably close to the same age as yourself. Nick runs the golf course out Gatewood Road (Bridge Haven). I played ball with his younger brother Vince, well, actually against him, until we teamed up after high school. Vince is a hell of an athlete. A left hander.

Yes, Nick and I graduated together from Mt. Hope in 1965. He is one of my best high school friends. We played together & against each other a lot of softball after high school. Nick no longer manages Bridge Haven...but we still play there often when I visit the course. I manage their credit card account. Sadly, Nick is fighting & winning his battle with cancer and I pray he lives a lot longer.

Nick still shoots in the high 70's or lower 80's at Bridge Haven.....a really gifted athlete....and a better person. Thanks for asking. Not sure about Vince?

I was last out at Bridge Haven in May of 2016, and Nick was there then, and I golfed with him on their 'show up' scramble night. I'm assuming he recently became sick? I'm FB friends with him, and don't recall seeing him say anything about it, but he doesn't post much. Vince would have graduated in '79. Not sure if he was an accident or not, but they lived right off 61, right along the highway, close to the 'Cold Spot'.

and the fact that his Mom & I share a house together

What does the fact that you rent a bedroom off of your ex-wife have to do with anything?

Y

I suggest you cease to post untruths about me!

Are you saying that you have never been arrested and/or convicted of assaulting a woman? A simple yes/no answer will be sufficient, woman-beater.

BTW,.. I am the NEW Director of Sports Information at the Christian School.

There is nothing new about you, old man. Does a small private high school really need a director of sports information or is this another one of your imaginary "coaching" jobs that you role-play?

I stepped down from my JV & Varsity coaching because of my ailing back....Nothing More ----Nothing Less.

Was the pencil you used for score keeping too heavy for your back? Does your ailing back mean that you are going to stop making threats of physical assaults against me?

Sadly, Nick is fighting & winning his battle with cancer

It is sad that your buddy is winning his battle with cancer? You are a demented old man.

NO Arrests on MY record.....
. If there were, I could not have been approved to coach at East Meck HS nor Charlotte Christian.
