On paper, the offensive matchup is pretty lopsided. Anyone who's seen us the last four weeks knows how bad we've been.
We scored 82 points against ODU and NC State. We've scored 124 points in the other 7 games.
Not only is Georgia Southern's 3rd Down offense really strong (#13 in the country) but so is their 4th Down offense (#11 converting 73% of their 4th down tries). On the other end of the spectrum, we are 122nd converting only 29% of our 4th Down tries (6 of 21).
These are two teams that LOVE to puke the ball up. Both are tied for second worst in the country with 21 lost turnovers in 9 games.
However, Georgia Southern is 10th best in the country at forcing turnovers with 18 on the season. We are 73rd with 12 forced turnovers.
Need something else to feel bad about? We have the 5th worst punt return team in the country - averaging 2 yards per punt return on the season. 9 returns for 19 total yards.
Defensively, it's a bit of a pillow fight. Neither has performed well and both give up nearly 6 yards per play. Marshall's damages have came largely on the ground and Georgia Southern has given up chunks of yards through the air. Somehow someway, both have respectable 3rd down defensive percentages.
This is usually the weekend that regardless of what the records are we come out with extra passion and focus. We are 11-1 over the past dozen "75" games. Let's hope we get that Saturday night.
