Sports Business Journal podcast this morning reports CUSA presidents will have a Zoom call today to approve a proposal to merge CUSA, Sun Belt and the AAC and create two or three geographically logical leagues.

SBC says it is uninterested and AAC is still yelling Power 6 and UCF really won the national championship to whoever still listens to it.

It would be nice if they could get on the same page... Forming two leagues based on geography makes a ton of sense (probably too much sense for it to actually happen).

Also there would be a lot of hand wringing over the allignement I would guess... I'd think the "best," most marketable, teams (ECU, App, Marshall, Navy, Coastal, USF, etc.) would want to be together, thus creating an imbalance.

Waste of time like most online meetings.

I think the MWC is doing just fine. None of its members are buying Arseco’s snake oil. It seems that the members, at least the non-California ones, are happy being the I-A conference for the “empty” part of the country. It is the most stable of the G5 leagues. The only changes I can see is Hawaii, which is playing at its practice field due to the stadium being torn down and is having trouble getting the state to pay for a new one.

Really, of course, a merger of CUSA, SBC and AAC, with two geographically logical conferences is the best result, but that is not happening due to the AAC’s idiocy. So plan B is SBC and CUSA merger and remix, IMHO.

How is it the right thing to do for the AAC? Even after getting raided, its programs are still far superior as is its media payout.
Based on the teams that are leaving, ESPN has the right to renegotiate the contract. They did not exercise that right after UConn left, but this is a different situation. Once the dust settles, and teams pick their new homes, that contract is going to change.

If I were an AD for a school going in to the AAC I would be sure to have a look back on any entrance fee, tying it to any renegotiation of the contract so I would get some of my money back.

Just a thought, but the AAC lost teams to the Big 12, which lost teams to ESPN's Baby - the SEC. Could ESPN agree to keep the compensation the same through the length of the contract, in return for UC, UH and UCF allowed to go sooner to the Big 12 and UT and OU allowed to move sooner to the SEC? ESPN wins in the long run. And let's face it, they control it.

This is just Judy being Judy. She's trying to show something flashy to the member schools in an effort to get everyone to stay. It's not like she did this along with the AAC, SBC, and MWC. Instead she's getting ready to lose 2, 4, or maybe 6 teams and her move is to play fantasy land. Let's waste conference money paying a former P5 commissioner to make fantasy conferences like this was NCAA14. Did she really need to pay someone to do this?

How about she act like a real conference commissioner and get us a real media deal where we're not relegated to FB Live streams. She knows CUSA isn't attractive to anyone, including her own members, so she is telling everyone else how the conferences should look.

She's hoping the other conferences bail her out. Not going ot happen. We need to leave.

The MWC's best teams have all already announced they are staying put... If I were the MWC, I would look to add two teams (maybe La. Tech and Rice) and further strengthen my position while negatively impacting CUSA.
The move is not this one, but to prepare for the next round. If I'm the Mt West I'm getting UTEP, Rice & UTSA.

So do you think they are going to lose a team and add 3 to go to 14, or are they going to just add the 3 you mentioned and one more to get to 16?
Oh, its a guess. But I believe there is going to be some horse trading behind the scenes. I figure the Mt West wants more protection for the future. My own opinion is AAC goes Big 6-8 teams for less travel and more regional rivalries. Losing the three they lost is a gut punch. Mt west to 16. If all fails us and you guys in the sunbelt. I really don't see a bad outcome. Cusa may fade out. As long as its agreeable so be it. - added -SMU and Tulsa could be MT West targets as well. reorganize AAC. horse trading I was referring to

I could see that... The MWC could take all 4 CUSA teams in Texas and then the AAC and Sun Belt could split up the rest of CUSA... You end up with three 16-team G5 leagues and CUSA no longer exists. You could make the three remaining leagues more regional and more stable.

I think the only people who would not approve of that plan are probably ole Judy and her lackeys in the CUSA offices (unless they can "restructure" themselves into jobs with one of the other leagues.)

I think you have it backwards. Judy & company are the lackeys for the CUSA collection of presidents/chancellors with advice from the ADs. This approach AAC 'strategy' was endorsed by the institutions. And most of the CUSA would jump at the 16 team-3 G5 model, within 3-4 days if that long.

The only people who would not approve would be nearly the entire membership of the AAC and a lot of the members of the SBC.

Yes, and 99.999% of college football fans recognize Alabama.
LOL....

The only thing that matters is official recognition for which both are in the record books. I recognize Alabama as a Co-National Champion, and my Alabama Alumni in-laws recognize UCF as a Co-National Champion.

My wife's cousin claims UCF is the true National Champion....but he went to Auburn so he trolls the in-laws whenever he can.

No you were merely expressing an opinion. An opinion 99.9999999% of college football fans disagree with.

This idiocy is based on some obscure rule where the NCAA (which, BTW isn’t in charge of college football, the major conferences are) “recognizes” anybody that any self-appointed group “declares” to be such. Of which there have been nearly a 100 such self-appointed groups.

In the year in question, 14 of the then current groups said Alabama won. One computer based deal the “Colley Matrix” which no one has ever heard of. Interestingly, the same crew had declared Alabama the champion the year before. After Alabama lost to Clemson. The day after.

So grab your NCAA record book (which I doubt is even really a book any more) and you and Arseco and UCF’s 400 fans can say “look it says so right here.” Leaving out that the same book will have multiple champions most years due to similar “recognized” nothings.

Meanwhile, Alabama enjoys being National Champion for that year.

No, I was expressing a fact (official record book)....you of the 99.9%, 99.999%, and now 99.9999999% are expressing opinions.

Since you were obviously not a STEM major....are you even contemplating the numbers you throw out?

Let's say we have 300M in the country, and a third (VERY conservative) are college football fans. 99.9999999% of those fans are 99,999,999.9 people or only 0.1 fans disagree with your opinion.

Probably a good place for a LOL....

We also enjoy our National Championship.

Have no idea why that table didn't include it, but here are a couple of examples:
