For trades in options, I use charting services with programmed algos. The charts were saying "puts" two days ago in some of the symbols I trade. I'll get out when the trade chart is telling me it's over. I use various months and expirations depending how long I think the trade might last. 3 days to 3 weeks. For my investments-long term holds, I buy and hold for years. I'm not really concerned with a one day, one month, six month, or one year blip. There is certain times of year I look to add more to these investment positions.
