Mike Rowe on Ford decision with a message for Greed

Are you talking about the same auto industry you wanted to go belly up during the Great Recession of comrade bush?

I have not owned an American made vehicle since 1974 , take that back , did own a Chrysler mini van in the early 90's but the other vehicles were foreign makes , so take out the Chrysler and all we have driven have been foreign made vehicles, anyway point is , I am seriously considering buying American when we purchase a new vehicle , thinking more along the lines of Chevrolet / GMC - like a Suburban , Yukon , Acadia / Ford Expedition / Explorer or something along those lines cause we can darn sure build trucks.

Just not sure about the size , just two of us and our Labrador Boudreaux (thats him on the left)

But I would seriously like to purchase an American made vehicle once again or at least one with an American name on it as in Chevrolet or Ford

Ford CEO Mulally, Dec. 5, 2008: In particular, the collapse of one or both of our domestic competitors would threaten Ford because we have 80 percent overlap in supplier networks and nearly 25 percent of Ford’s top dealers also own GM and Chrysler franchises.

Ford CEO Mulally, Dec. 5, 2008: In addition to our plan, we are also here today to request support for the industry. In the near-term, Ford does not require access to a government bridge loan. However, we request a credit line of $9 billion as a critical backstop or safeguard against worsening conditions as we drive transformational change in our company.

In a Jan. 30, 2009, report on the bailout program, the Congressional Research Service noted that Ford “is counting on $5 billion from the DOE loan program to support a $14 billion plan to reorient its lineup toward more fuel-efficient vehicles.” On June 23, 2009, the Department of Energy announced it would provide $5.9 billion to Ford “to transform factories across Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, and Ohio to produce 13 more fuel efficient models.”

In a business plan submitted to Congress in December 2008, Ford touted its $14 billion plan for fuel-efficient cars as a key part of its effort to turn the company around — noting that a big piece of the funding was coming from the DOE. The company’s business plan also urged Congress to pass legislation to provide “incentives for consumers to trade in older vehicles and move to more fuel-efficient vehicles.” About six months later — on June 24, 2009 — President Obama signed the Consumer Assistance to Recycle and Save Act that became known as the cash-for-clunkers program. A Department of Transportation report (table 10) said more than 90,000 Fords were purchased under the cash-for-clunkers program — second only to Toyota — as of December 2009.

Those new Suburbans and Yukons look like big ole Cadillacs. I'd think they'd make hearses out of them. Of course they ruin them all with that center console in the front. All the high end model trucks are pissed on with that damn knee killer.

Thank goodness for my Sierra SLE. Plenty nice enough. Front bench. Plenty of knee room.

I have no problem with companies taking LOANS from financiers to retool a business. Shouldn't you be complaining that Bush kicked off this type of "Corporate Welfare" program that Obummer actually signed??

Obama's "Cash for Clunkers" program...one of his biggest accomplishments as POTUS.

All it did was cause the cost of cars in the used market to go up so poor people would end up paying more, since they couldn't afford new ones, even with the money for their hoopty.

I guess one could argue it saved them from even shittier shitty cars lol.

Unfortunately it also took lots of cheap trucks and real SUVs (not this crossover shit) off the market. I don't like nice trucks, because I will beat the snot out of a truck.

It's disappointing to see Mike Rowe fall for this bullshit. Mexico and Flat Rock are completely separate issues.

Huh? Geesh

Strange all this good news is coming since Obummer is close to the end of his term.

Just wait until the 20th. Just wait until the DOD leaders take over and Obamacare is axed.

Liberal meltdown mode.

So, 20 million people losing their healthcare makes you happy. Compassionate conservative. Bwaaaahaha!!

Huh? Geesh

If that is above your head, there is no hope for you.

1. Cash for Clunkers took many shitty cars off the road. Shitty cars are popular with the poor.

2. I like old, beat-up trucks. Because I beat the shit out of trucks.

3. Rowe's use of "instead" shows he is at best a rube and at worst a useful idiot. That's disappointing, because I thought he was smarter than that. There is no 'instead" in this, and those of you who believe there is are either rubes or useful idiots.

Extra at this point you have as much information of what the Republicans are going to offer as a replacement for Obamacare as Stevie Wonder has reading an eye chart.

20 million people won't lose their coverage.

You don't know. I don't know. You are wasting the English language.

maybe a little melt down from those in the "center" who just think they are smarter than everyone else.

The republicans dont know either, which is pitiful in and of itself. Secondly, the point is you cons would rejoice to get rid of Obamacare even if there was no replacement and 20 million lost their healthcare.

Did you offer your employees a plan?

Bums will not lose any healthcare. They'll just keep showing up, racking up the bills and not paying them like they always have. The whole thing is just a bullshit scare tactic to swindle poor idiots into voting for transgender bathrooms and a refugee standing around every pot.

The very idea that any American (Repub, Dem, or fake independent) looks to a politician to "provide" healthcare plans resulting in outstanding care of individual's health, shows you just how ignorantly lazy our society has become.

Considering not a single lawmaker on the Hill read this bullshit legislation, it makes total sense that they have little idea how to actually untangle the shit show many of them celebrated. It's taken 8 years for the roots of Obummercare, and the multi billions$$$ spent to take hold. A simple "repeal" is just not possible without massive upheaval. Thus the reason you are seeing some politicians slowly back off their election hype.

Bottom-line......Hold on folks. You think the VA Hospitals scandal was an unfair disaster to the patients they served????? This new magnificent form of governmental compassion for the plebeian masses will be yours within the next 10-15 years. "Population Heath"..(newest bureaucracy created in the rotten bowels of Obummercare unlikely to be fully eliminated).........is the next wave of government driven medical "care" malfeasance (some of you single payer champions seem to crave). For all that have not planned effectively for your financial future you will most likely be hoping a "death panel" exists in order to decide to put you down.

The whole idea of Social Security is way worse. It's people admitting they are too stupid to save up for retirement so they have to have someone confiscate their money and give it back to them later or they would foolishly blow it all.

I just have to get used to the fact that the average person is pretty damn stupid. The best way to handle it is to spend as little time around them as possible.

You going to admit that I was right about "So, 20 million people losing their healthcare makes you happy."?

Have 20 million people lost their healthcare yet? I know obamacare did to my insurance and what it did to our company. That's one reason Trump won.

Have you seen a plan to replace obamacare? No? Because a viable one from the cons doesn't exist. And if 20 million lose their healthcare coverage, that's acceptable, right? Maybe your company suffered because of poor management and they just pin the problem on health insurance under obama as an excuse.

They have been in business 75 years. They are doing ok.

Most business were hammered by obamacare.

Greed not understanding the point being made. Shocker!!

he only deals in semantics like his leader.

Obama highlighted (at Arlington National Cemetary no less) once again that "no foreign terrorist organizations have plotted and carried out a terror strike on US soil in his 8 years."

technically, France and Germany can say the same thing... right? i mean it doesn't count unless these guys make their plans in the Middle East and then storm the beaches to execute them.... right?
